Up for auction is this 2004 Porsche 996 Carrera 4S Cabriolet finished in Speed Yellow over a black full leather interior.  Introduced in 2002, the 996 Carrera 4S sports the wide fenders and bumpers of the Turbo model along with a 3.6L flat-six engine sending power to all four wheels. This 2004 example was configured at an original sticker price of over $105k with a 6-speed manual transmission, Sport Seats, the Bose High-End Sound Package, and the Sport Exhaust System along with a host of exclusive options including painted interior trim, deviated stitching, and Custom Tailoring (special wishes requiring further communication). A lifelong California car, this C4S is now being offered for auction with just over 88k miles showing on the odometer.

This 996 comes finished in Speed Yellow with a black power-retractable soft top. Apart from its Turbo-derived bodywork, the Carrera 4S is characterized by a model-specific reflector band spanning between the taillights.  Optional details include xenon headlamps and exclusive stainless steel exhaust pipes.  The headlights are slightly faded while the rest of the exterior is described to be very well presented, detailed images are provided in the gallery along with a clean CARFAX report.  This 4S rides on a set of two-piece 18” BBS RS-GT forged aluminum wheels with new Sumitomo tires in the rear.

Inside, this 996 showcases a black full leather interior with extensive deviated yellow stitching and painted hardback Sport Seats.  The rear center console is also color-matched to the exterior along with the seatbelts, belt outlet trim, and door finishers.  Other exclusive options include Porsche crested headrests and a shifter and handbrake lever trimmed in leather and aluminum.  Minor signs of wear are noted on the driver seat and some light indentations are depicted on the rear seat cushions.  A complete list of factory options is provided below:

This 4S is equipped with a naturally aspirated 3.6L flat-six engine that sends up to 320 HP and 273 lb.-ft of torque to the rear wheels by way of a 6-speed manual transmission. Compared with the standard Carrera 4, the 4S features a lower and stiffer suspension as well as larger 4-piston monobloc brakes borrowed from the Turbo model. This example also came optioned with the Sport Exhaust System providing a more aggressive tone. The CARFAX report shows a long history of service carried out by the original selling Porsche dealership and the seller states that the IMS bearing was upgraded at approximately 60k miles along with the installation of a new clutch.

This sale will include a set of two keys, owner's manuals, a Porsche battery charger, the original window sticker, and a clean title.  Ordered from the factory with no expense spared on premium options and personalized styling, this 6-speed Carrera 4S Cabriolet is not to be overlooked.

996 C4S cabriolets lose the hardtop lines and look like narrow body C2’s. It’s a strange visual phenomenon.

@kpark1721 Thank you for the reply

@ExoticrareKia @ExoticrareKia, yes the entire front gauge panel was replaced. The original panel was yellow, but for some reason the yellow panel started to bubble and peel off. It was still under the extended warranty and ended up replacing the whole panel. It was done at the McKenna Porsche dealership in Norwalk California. In my ignorance, I didn't even know you could get paint meter reading. Something I will strongly consider if this auction is not successful! Thank you, but I assure you it's all original paint with no accidents. I am willing to refund the entire amount of sale, should they get the paint meter tested and I was not forthright!

@NineThirty good morning, the main reason for selling is because I bought an audi R8 and rarely driving the Porsche, and also my wife has always disliked the car bc she couldn't drive stick shift and selfishly wanted me to sell it.
The ims bearing was changed in 2016ish I think when I had the clutches replaced and recommended by the McKenna Porsche dealership in Norwalk CA to change the bearing at the same time for precautionary measures. Very glad I listened to their advice! The steering wheel is actually in great shape.

I just noticed the miles should be TMU as the entire gauge cluster was replaced.
Also the red front brake calipers with inscribed “PORSCHE” white letters have also been replaced for some reason. The back calipers are correct.
Seller should supply paint meter readings to ensure it hasn’t been in an accident with these findings.

Good Morning nice looking car just a couple of questions. Why are you selling? Was the IMS bearing changed because of indications of wear or just as a precautionary measure? The steering wheel also appears very worn is that just the photo or is it actually worn? Thanks

  • kpark1721 (seller) 2 years, 5 monthsago

@nafs yes, on the driver's seat you do have your standard wear and tear on the left side of the bottom seat. On the upper back rest, I did notice some cracking along the seams and at the time I placed a rubber filament material to prevent further cracking, which seams to have worked, but maybe not a permanent solution. thanks for the comment, any suggestions?

I was looking at this C4S when it was posted on another (non-auction) site recently. The owner seemed nice, was forthcoming with information, and even sent me a couple photos/videos I asked for. I didn't end up seeing the car because I ultimately decided I didn't want a convertible. I think the owner and Pcarmarket should disclose more about the condition of the seats though, in photo 67 you can see some leather filler or putty over one of the seams. The driver's seat is in similar shape from the pictures I received, but isn't shown here in any of the photos. Regardless, I think the seller is going to do really well with this car. Not only is it a cool color, but the overall spec is really unique.

@PorscheTech1 hi, forgive me for my ignorance, but lot of what your asking is foreign language to me. I dont know what brand IMS was used, but it was done at the McKenna Porsche dealership in Norwalk California. Water pump, spark plugs, air/oil separator replaced at 82k miles at prestine Porsche audi in Huntington beach California. There is no smoke at start up, no hydraulic leaks, and to my knowledge the axle boots are fine. Not sure how pre-purchase inspection works through this auction platform, but if possible I have no issue with it.

  • PorscheTech1 (registered bidder) 2 years, 5 monthsago

Kevin, do you know what brand IMS was used? Is there a recorded serial number somewhere(ie. owners manual), when was the last major maintenance completed(air, spark, pollen, brake fluid, oil, drive belt)? Has the transmission been service(90k) as well as the front and rear differentials(90k)? Has the water pump and thermostat been replaced? Any issues with the Air Oil Separator(smoke at start up)? Condition of axle boots? Any hydraulic leaks from the convertible top rams? Would you entertain a Pre Purchase Inspection if bid is won? Thank you, love the car!

Hi everyone! I'm Kevin and very excited to have partnered with Pcarmarket to auction off my car. I'm very confident that you will immensely enjoy this car as I have for the past 17 years! I do have a demanding work schedule, but promise to answer all and everything questions to the best of my knowledge as quickly as possible. All the best!
