Featuring wide bodywork and brakes from the 911 Turbo, the Porsche 996 Carrera 4S offers a naturally aspirated 3.6-liter flat-six engine sending power to all four wheels. This 2004 example is a Carrera 4S Cabriolet finished in Atlas Grey Metallic over a Graphite Grey full leather interior. It comes equipped with a 6-speed manual transmission, optional heated supple leather seats, the Bose High-End Sound Package, and Exclusive carbon fiber and aluminum trim for the shifter and brake handle. It is part of a large German car collection and has reportedly been used sparingly as a weekend driver while undergoing routine service as well as the installation of an upgraded IMS bearing. This 996 is now being offered for auction by its seller out of New Jersey with approximately 95k miles showing on the odometer.
The Carrera 4S features wider fenders than a standard Carrera as well as Turbo-style bumpers and side skirts, red brake calipers, and a unique reflector band connecting the taillights. This example is finished in Atlas Grey Metallic with a black convertible top and factory 18” 911 Turbo wheels with colored Porsche crest center caps. Other equipment includes dual exhaust outlets, a speed-activated rear spoiler, dual power mirrors, and front fog lights. The seller notes the front bumper was refinished to address a minor parking lot damage and the car’s exterior has been professionally detailed annually. The rear tires were replaced within the last 200 miles and a ceramic coating has been recently reapplied to the exterior. Detailed images are provided in the gallery along with a CARFAX report showing minor front-end damage in 2017.
Inside, this 996 features full Graphite Grey leather upholstery, optional heated supple leather seats, and a three-spoke steering wheel. Other options include Exclusive aluminum and carbon fiber trim for the shifter and handbrake, the Bose High-End Sound Package, and a remoter 6-disc CD changer. The driver is also provided with power seats and windows, driver seat position memory, central locking doors, automatic climate control, cruise control, a CD storage compartment, and an onboard computer.
A naturally aspirated 3.6-liter flat-six engine delivers up to 315 HP and 273 lb.-ft of torque to all four wheels through a 6-speed manual transmission. The 4S Cabriolet can accelerate from 0-60 MPH in approximately 5 seconds with a top speed of over 170 MPH while stopping power comes from Turbo-derived fixed 4-piston brakes with 330mm cross-drilled discs at each corner. The seller indicates routine service has been carried out by an independent German car specialist and the engine is fortified with an upgraded LN Engineering IMS bearing. Additionally, a Blackstone Laboratories oil analysis was recently completed.
This sale will include a window sticker, a toolkit, a spare tire, an air pump, a car cover, and a clean title.
The seller would like you to know: “The car is used as a weekend touring car serviced regularly starts runs and drives fantastic.”

@sjaffer08 the tension cables sitting outside of the trim is a common cabriolet issue for 986/996/987/997. Either the elastic bands that pull them in have broken, the cables themselves are broken, or the front anchor point has come loose. Annoying, but not expensive to rectify. If that’s the original canvas it may warrant replacement though, ~$3500 endeavor.

Mismatched tires on the front? A Continental and a Bridgestone? At least new tires on the back. And can you please answer about what appears to be a crack in the plenum? Also the question about the top possibly being misaligned? Thank you.

Two questions: is the driver’s seat bolster cracked through the leather?
Is there a spare tire? I did not see it in the pictures. Thanks.
In pics 110 & 111, it looks like there is a significant cut or crack in the rubber intake plenum. Is that the case? Is it completely through the rubber? Leak?
Sorry, I just saw in the description it is and LN Engineering IMS bearing replacement.
Which replacement IMS bearing was used? (Factory, LN Engineering, etc.)
Bid in the amount of $10,000
@Woodrm64 no leaks IMS bearing was replaced old IMS bearing was perfect when replaced also clutch with flywheel rear gybo stabilizer links starter coolant and plugs over $12,700 in parts and labor just in the last couple months it’s a nice clean well kept Porsche
Do you know if this car will pass California's smog testing.
This is a good looking 996.2. Does the car have any leaks? Same old questions on 996's: Has the IMS bearing been replaced? How about the other 996 maintenance items? Tranny mount, injectors, coils/spark plugs, coolant tank. Thank you.
