We are pleased to present this 2004 Porsche 996 GT3 finished in Arctic Silver Metallic over a black leather interior.  Regarded among the greatest driving Porsche’s of all time, the 996 GT3 was designed as a homologation vehicle for FIA racing and features the coveted 3.6L flat-six Mezger engine.  This 2004 example was purchased new by the current owner from Hoehn Porsche of San Diego in July 2004 and came factory optioned with Exclusive aluminum instrument dials, the Xenon Headlamp Package, and a brake handle and shifter in carbon/aluminum.  It also features upgraded Girodisc brake rotors as well a 964 RS/Cup clutch and flywheel.  Having been kept up to date on service primarily through an authorized Porsche dealer, this 996 GT3 shows just over 68k miles and is now being offered for auction by its original owner out of Nevada.

This GT3 is finished in Arctic Silver Metallic and sports model-specific flared rocker panels, front fascia, and fixed rear wing.  The seller notes a few small road-going chips on the front hood and bumper as well as a minor gouge on one of the wheels which occurred during tire mounting.  The front bumper cover is also said to have been previously cracked, replaced with a new OEM piece, and painted to match.  Additional images are provided in the photo gallery along with a clean CARFAX report.  This 996 rides on factory 18” GT3 alloy wheels dressed in Pirelli P Zero Rosso tires showing date codes from 2015 in the front and 2018 in the rear.

Inside, you will find a black leather interior with optional amenities including A/C with full climate control, cruise control, aluminum instrument dials, and carbon/aluminum inlays for the shifter and brake handle.  Standard comfort and convenience features include power windows, Sport Seats with power backrests, a central locking system with remote control, an onboard computer, and power/heated side mirrors.  The original Porsche radio remains in place and the seller has confirmed all gauges and accessories to be fully functional.

This 996 GT3 is equipped with a race-derived 3.6L flat-six Mezger engine paired with a 6-speed manual transmission.  This naturally aspirated power plant sends as much as 380 HP and 284 lb.-ft of torque to the rear wheels, allowing acceleration from 0-60 MPH in approximately 4 seconds.  The drivetrain has been upgraded with a 964 RS/Cup clutch and flywheel and the stopping power has been improved with upgraded 350mm Girodisc two-piece brake rotors.  During the car’s warranty period, all scheduled service was addressed through an authorized Porsche dealership.  Since the end of the warranty, some additional work was performed by the Porsche dealer with other routine maintenance items addressed by the seller.

This sale will include the original tools, tire inflator, and a clean title.  Highlighting a clean one-owner history and tasteful factory specifications, this 2004 example may very well be the 996 GT3 you have been searching for.

Forgive me if I missed it, but has the coolant hose issue been addressed?

  • plimagt3 (seller) 2 years, 9 monthsago

@IndianaJones Yes, bumper cover was only thing replaces and painted. <5 mph nudge into car in front after it turned right then stopped. Diff is original, but LSD clutches replace under warrantee.

  • IndianaJones (registered bidder) 2 years, 9 monthsago

Picture 14 in the gallery appears to show a misaligned front bumper. Was the bumper the only item replaced/ painted on the car?

What were the circumstances surrounding the cracked front bumper?

Also is the rear diff original? Sorry if I missed this in the description.

  • plimagt3 (seller) 2 years, 9 monthsago

@RacingPorsche Yes, Five track days at Reno-Fernley 2008-2011 timeframe

  • RacingPorsche (registered bidder) 2 years, 9 monthsago

Hi Plima... did you ever get this car on the race track?

  • plimagt3 (seller) 2 years, 9 monthsago

@biggal76 No rattle at all while in gear and driving. At idle, in neutral, with clutch out, you can hear the gears rattle.

  • biggal76 (registered bidder) 2 years, 9 monthsago

Is there any rattling during lower RPM acceleration with the lightweight flywheel? They all rattle some at idle, but I installed one in my Cayman S and it is noisy in 5th and 6th gear, especially once the transmission fluid warms up.

@Turbodan No, I ran over a rock recently. It did crack the plastic covers. As the inspector said, you cannot see it without putting the car on a lift and they are certainly a cosmetic defect. I'd work with a buyer to cover replacing those plastic covers.

  • Turbodan (registered bidder) 2 years, 9 monthsago

@Turbodan I just looked again and see the mechanic is pointing to damaged undercarrier, so this was done before undercarrier was replaced due to not being secured properly during alignment. Is that correct?

  • Turbodan (registered bidder) 2 years, 9 monthsago

@plimagt3 thank you for pointing that out as I had not noticed. What is the mechanic pointing to on the underside? Also pics are not clear so I may have not seen it clearly but are the plastic covers under the car broken?

  • plimagt3 (seller) 2 years, 9 monthsago

@Turbodan And thanks for the comment on the car overall.

  • plimagt3 (seller) 2 years, 9 monthsago

@Turbodan There are a few underside pix on the PPI document (in the gallery). Paint is original but I don't have any thickness measurements.

  • Turbodan (registered bidder) 2 years, 9 monthsago

any photos of the car on a hoist? is the paint original? any paint meter readings? Beautiful 6GT3 BTW.

@Skindoc And I remembered posting on Rennlist my horror story. You can read it here: https://rennlist.com/forums/996-gt2-gt3-forum/338500-gt3-alignment-horror-story-long.html

  • plimagt3 (seller) 2 years, 9 monthsago

@Skindoc I just completed a search of all my old files and receipts and found the repair order to fix the subframe and align the wheels. It clearly states the cause of the failure was caused "by someone not properly loosening the suspension". I've asked the moderators to add this file to my listing.

  • plimagt3 (seller) 2 years, 9 monthsago

    @justin Thank you Justin.

  • plimagt3 (seller) 2 years, 9 monthsago

@rsabeebe Thank you rsabeebe. I genuinely didn't intend any subversion here. I've treated this car with huge tender care and feel badly that it hasn't been so apparent.

  • justin (registered bidder) 2 years, 9 monthsago

The good news is that if someone does not like a car’s history. They do not have to bid on it. Good Bless America !!!

  • Skindoc (registered bidder) 2 years, 9 monthsago

@rsabeebe I don’t think anyone is being disingenuous here. A subframe replacement is a significant service issue.

It should have been disclosed up front and addressed, end of issue. Let the bidders decide what discount, if any, should be applied.

To not disclose casts a shadow of doubt on everything else the seller lists.

You make a set of valid points in describing the subframe being dealer replaced 50k miles ago under warranty.

I was seriously interested in this GT3, and still may be, however everything is now suspect simply because the owner didn’t disclose a major service issue.

Let all Pcar watchers/sellers/buyers learn a lesson here.

  • rsabeebe (registered bidder) 2 years, 9 monthsago

so, a tech at a dealer does not properly secure (possibly align) the rear subframe after a service and everyone is going to hold it against the owner/seller? this is the type of thing that really frustrates me with service/repair work. if a shop/dealer does something erroneous, it follows the car forward and the owner is left holding the 'damage' on their own. i know i certainly would have attempted to secure a report from the second dealer to state everything related to the subframe repair and potential cause, as a dealer is likely not going to want to lay blame on another porsche dealer. if this had happened to any of the bidders or 'auction detectives' here, you'd be left holding the same cards as the owner and i wonder how you would view the situation then. it's a one owner car with 68k miles, subframe repair performed 50k miles ago, under warranty, and everyone still wants to 'hit' the car's value over the mishap. seems rather disingenuous to me.

  • plimagt3 (seller) 2 years, 9 monthsago

@fehrevilo I'm sorry you feel that way; I've explained it as thoroughly as possible. The need for its replacement was only due to technician incompetence, and not to any driving event.

  • fehrevilo (registered bidder) 2 years, 9 monthsago

Subframe replacement and incident not being listed in the description probably tells you all you need to know on this auction.

  • plimagt3 (seller) 2 years, 9 monthsago

@Mattmotos I've not been able to find a way to post that report; I can email it to you, if you like

  • plimagt3 (seller) 2 years, 9 monthsago

@Mattmotos Yes; I'll submit the full Durametric report

  • Mattmotos (registered bidder) 2 years, 9 monthsago

Hi, can we get an over rev report please?
    Thanks,
    Matt

  • Inspectorgadget 2 years, 9 monthsago

@plimagt3 carfax lists your front crankshaft seal and diff bearing replacement but not the replacement of the subframe. Sounds suspicious without paperwork.

  • plimagt3 (seller) 2 years, 9 monthsago

@Inspectorgadget As far as I know, CarFax doesn't track car service repairs that are not related to accidents. As I said to you directly, and to the others on this forum, the repair was due to a Porsche Dealer technician mistake.

  • Inspectorgadget 2 years, 9 monthsago

@plimagt3 why doesn’t show on the carfax? Also when a past prospective buyer looked into this the Porsche dealers had no record? Could you upload some paperwork to support that?

  • plimagt3 (seller) 2 years, 9 monthsago

@Skindoc The subframe incident was a year or two before the LWFW and rear main seal. To me, the Porsche Dealer negligence that resulted in the repair wasn't important. There are no other repairs other than normal aging (e.g. I didn't mention replacing a coil pack at 60K miles when I changed the plugs)

  • Skindoc (registered bidder) 2 years, 9 monthsago

I didn’t see anything on Carfax (surprise) or any receipts/work orders for replacement of the rear subframe.

Seller, is there any other undisclosed work, accidents, damage, theft, insurance claims, etc., that have not been disclosed?

Was the subframe replacement performed when the engine out service was performed, or was that a separate service event?

  • plimagt3 (seller) 2 years, 9 monthsago

@Inspectorgadget When the car was in for a 4 wheel alignment, a careless technician failed to tighten appropriate bolts. After a short drive home from the Porsche dealer, the car was not driving straight. A different Porsche Dealer said the wear on the subframe from that incident required replacing that part. That occurred while the car was under warrantee and has been perfect for 50K miles since then.

  • Inspectorgadget 2 years, 9 monthsago

I know this car. Wasn’t the rear subframe replaced?

  • plimagt3 (seller) 2 years, 9 monthsago

@Skindoc The coolant lines have not been pinned. The engine-out service was to replace a (very small) rear main seal leaks, and replace the dual mass flywheel with a 964RS flywheel and clutch. All service items for 60K are complete, including a 4 wheel alignment (something I did ever two years as a routine).

  • Skindoc (registered bidder) 2 years, 9 monthsago

I noted that there was an engine out service in 2008/35k miles, were the coolant lines welded/pinned? Have they been since?

Has the 60k service been performed?

    Thanks, GLWA!

Welcome GT3 lovers. I've owned and loved this car for 17 years and have taken exceptional care of it. 996 GT3 cars are all about driver's skill and reward. It isn't as fast as any of the newer GT3s but I've loved ever day behind the wheel. I'm hoping its new owner enjoys it as much as I have. Please feel free to ask questions; I'd love to help.
