Considered among the greatest driving 911s of all, the 996 GT3 was produced as an FIA racing homologation car featuring the venerated Mezger flat-six engine. This 2004 example comes finished in Speed Yellow and features Sport Seat backrest shells painted to match the exterior along with the Xenon Headlamp Package and other additional options. Driven just over 1k miles, this example has been preserved as part of a private collection and is now being offered for auction by its seller out of Massachusetts.

Finished in Speed Yellow, this example showcases a distinctive fixed rear wing, exclusive GT3 aerodynamic lower bodywork with front and rear valances, Xenon Headlight Package, power-adjustable mirrors, and dual exhaust outlets. It rides on factory staggered 18” GT3 wheels dressed in Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 tires with date codes from 2019 at the front and 2021 at the rear. The CARFAX report shows glass was repaired in April 2021 and is provided in the gallery along with a collection of detailed images.

The driver is situated within a Black leather interior featuring Sport Seats with body-colored backrest shells, Guards Red seatbelts, a thicker leather steering wheel, automatic climate control, and a CD stereo. The interior is described to be in excellent condition.

Power is derived from a naturally aspirated 3.6-liter flat-six Mezger engine paired with a 6-speed manual transmission and a limited-slip differential. As much as 380 HP and 284 lb.-ft of torque are sent to the rear wheels allowing the GT3 to accelerate from 0-60 MPH in just over 4 seconds. Some maintenance history is provided on the CARFAX report and there are no outstanding service items noted at this time.

This sale will include a clean title and owner’s manuals.

@Koi FYI the 996.1 GT3 was not produced for the USA and it was 99-01 only. 996.2 911s began in 2002, and Porsche typically begins production of the next model year in September - sometimes even earlier.

  • Koi (registered bidder) 1 year, 3 monthsago

    Thank you.

  • PorscheBurlington (seller) 1 year, 3 monthsago

@Koi we got in contact with our Regional Porsche Rep. The car is a 2004 production year built in 2003

  • Koi (registered bidder) 1 year, 3 monthsago

    Is this a 2004 996.2 or is it a 2003 996.1? The COA says 2003. Thx

  • PorscheBurlington (seller) 1 year, 3 monthsago

@momotime we are still working on getting service records proving the 30k mile service was done. If we cannot provide that the service will be provided here and documented.

  • PorscheBurlington (seller) 1 year, 3 monthsago

@momotime added photos of the books. The car has all the original tools except the jack.

To the Seller. if purchased will you as the selling dealer change the plugs, all fluid put new coils in and clean the maf with CRC. ? Basically a 30,000 mile major service. Yes I know the car has only 1000 miles but we know time is the factor here not the mileage..

When I sold the car in 2021 it had 590 miles and had not been registered during my ownership.

  • lee88 (registered bidder) 1 year, 3 monthsago

I looked at this car in person when the original owner put it up for sale in early 2021 through another collector car dealer in the northeast. At that point in time it had slightly less than 1000 miles. IIRC the original owner had driven it on the MSO until putting it up for sale at that point.

I ultimately decided this wasn't the right one for me as I wanted a car I could drive an enjoy rather than a super low mile preservation car. But it's a very nice car and in early 2021 when I saw it you'd describe it in virtually "as new" condition.

I would definitely change the plugs, put new coils in (better than original) and clean the maf with CRC. My cars an early 99 coupe an an 03 turbo both coupes 6 speed ran a lot better after this, if you are going to drive the car.

@SafeWill The spark plugs would be like new. Maybe check the seals for drying but that's a small matter.

Wow. This is rare. It should probably be sold to a collector. So I'm a bit surprised it's out in the public for sale as opposed to a private sale to another collector.

Currently driving a 996 40th AE #0763. @dk2020 is right The 996 analog experience is very special and far better than newer models.

  • PorscheBurlington (seller) 1 year, 3 monthsago

@MezgerTT I just uploaded paint meter pictures of all panels. The only thing I didn’t include was the front of the car as it has a full ppf done. If requested I can include that as well!

I am the original owner of this car and can provide the hx from purchase new to sale in 2020. It was purchased as a gift to my father after he noted a speed yellow 2004 GT3 on the cover of a magazine, I believe road and track. A copy of that magazine was included with the car when I sold it, as well as the Porsche marketing poster, promotional book etc. He was ill at the time and never recovered enough to drive the car but enjoyed around 500 miles in the passenger seat over a couple of years. After his death the car was kept in a climate controlled shop with a couple of dozen other collector and racing cars. The car was maintained on the same schedule as the other cars, being run to operating temp on a regular basis, driven around the parking lot, fluids changed on an annual basis, brakes flushed etc. the battery had been replaced over the years, I still have the original, the window had a small chip in it during my ownership, when I sold it it still had the original tires on it. I have no insights into the hx of the car since I sold it but I can assure any future owner that it was well cared for and maintained during my ownership. Hope this is helpful

  • marcromano 1 year, 3 monthsago

@KvN yeah, those are the words. i don't know what else to say.

  • TubeGuy (registered bidder) 1 year, 3 monthsago

The one thing that baffles me is why somebody would store an example of this car without leather and PCCB.

  • MezgerTT (registered bidder) 1 year, 3 monthsago

    @PorscheBurlington

Hello, do you know why the glass was repaired and what was done on what glass? Replacement, chip fixed?

Also, do you mind having someone from the dealership put a paint meter on the car and post the pictures of the readings from each panel. A lot can happen during long term storage or during a 1000 miles of driving.

    Thank you.

  • PorscheBurlington (seller) 1 year, 3 monthsago

@991gt3 we are working to confirm with the previous owner to supply appropriate documentation. If he cannot provide us with that we will have the car serviced here.

  • PorscheBurlington (seller) 1 year, 3 monthsago

@PAEuros I just double checked that was dirt

  • PAEuros (registered bidder) 1 year, 3 monthsago

Picture 18, is that scratches or just dirt above the passenger taillight?

  • Johnny3 (registered bidder) 1 year, 3 monthsago

This is the museum piece you want... all the original marketing that I have seen for the 996.2 GT3 was with with a Speed Yellow example.

  • SafeWill (registered bidder) 1 year, 3 monthsago

I don’t think I have seen such a low mileage 996 GT3 for auction yet. This car might create a selling record as the 996 are on the rise now.
It will be very interesting to watch this.
A question has been asked regarding the spark plugs. I am wondering if they ever need to be serviced as they should be new? Is there a technical reason to do it besides what the service manual says?

  • 991gt3 (registered bidder) 1 year, 3 monthsago

To be clear.. Has it had a recent major service including spark plugs ?

  • dk2020 1 year, 3 monthsago

I have the exact same Speed Yellow GT3 but with 40k miles. SOOOOOO much fun. 996.2 was the first of Andreas Preuninger's masterpieces. Fortunate to also own the latest of his masterpieces, 992 GT3. Comparing the two, I might enjoy the 996.2 over the 992. It has a rawness to it that more modern cars now lack. And the 996.2 has enough power but retinas all the beauty and feel of an analog machine. Good luck to the seller. Spectacular but needs miles!

@stim4u hello and thank you for commenting. I’m out of the office today so in terms of servicing during that time period I will get back to you on that. In terms of where the car was, it was stored in the previous owner’s temperature controlled garage where he stores all his cars.
