We are pleased to present this nicely spec’d 2004 Porsche 996 Targa finished in Atlas Grey Metallic over a Natural Brown leather interior.  The 996 represents an evolutionary shift to the water-cooled generation, and as such is highly coveted amongst Porsche enthusiasts across the globe.  This well-cared for example features a 6-speed manual transmission, low mileage, and a clean bill of health.  Showing just over 29k miles, this 996 is being offered for auction in outstanding condition by its seller in Pennsylvania.

The rarely seen Atlas Grey Metallic finish on this Targa is said to be in exceptional condition.  The iconic Targa roofline and narrow body of this C2 creates a classic 911 silhouette that is sure to turn some heads.  Detailed images are available in the photo gallery.  This example rides on a set of factory alloy wheels that come wrapped in brand new Riken Performance tires.

This Targa features a Natural Brown leather interior that perfectly contrasts the exterior color.  The condition of the upholstery is excellent and remains in completely original condition.  Nicely spec’d when ordered new, this Carrera boasted an original MSRP of $88k and comes equipped with factory power adjustable heated seats, Porsche Stability Management system, Bose High End Sound Package, Technic Package, and more.  A full build sheet is located in the gallery photos.  The seller reports that all the switches, gauges and electrics are in fully functional and in excellent working condition.

Powering this 996 Carrera is a naturally aspirated water-cooled 3.6L flax-six engine that is capable of producing 320HP.  This potent drivetrain can propel this 996 Carrera to 60 MPH in approximately 5.2 seconds, and will continue onto an estimated top speed of 174 MPH.  The seller reports that the engine has recently received a full service from a local Porsche specialist that included a new battery, fluids, and filters.

The sale of this 996 Carrera Targa will include one master key, service records, original documentation, and a clean Carfax.  Low mileage and unmodified 996s are becoming increasingly rare and difficult to find. Don’t miss you chance to own this exhilarating and well cared for 911.

As a former dealer and current collector I’d say those readings are perfectly normal. Great color and nice spec! Good luck.

@VRMoose On most modern Porsche vehicles, the paint readings are usually between 4.0 and 5.0 mls, especially when it is a metallic paint color. I do not find there to be any previous paint work and definitely no accident damage. However, given that the passenger side quarter panel is reading a bit higher than the others, I think there is a slight possibility that panel may have had something cosmetic done like a touch up and blend, but by no means do I see cause for concern here. Please note that unless measurements are taken by a top level meter, they are never completely accurate so we must leave room for variance.

mcotml.com, Thanks for those photos. The outside pictures really make a difference. I'm used to seeing a paint depth reading between ~3.0-3.5 ... this car's are universally higher. Do you suspect the type of paint makes the difference? Importantly, are you aware of (or suspect) any paintwork on the car at all?

@VRMoose Photos were submitted last evening. They should go live shortly along with some additional outdoor pictures and some video clips.

Seller, can you add pictures of paint depth readings for all the panels?

@ILGoon Thank you for the comments--they are much appreciated! It truly is an amazing car in outstanding condition. The color combination is by far one of the best in our opinion. It definitely falls in the "unicorn" category given the Targa roof, the colors, and the equipment, not to mention the condition and mileage.

@maminella We do not have paperwork to verify that the IMS was replaced so bidders should assume the IMS is stock. The car was inspected and serviced while in our care. It was sold as a Certified Pre-Owned Porsche twice by Sun Motor Imports and throughout most of its life, the service on this car was completed there. We discussed the service history with that dealership and while they did not have record of the IMS being replaced, they did note that the car had major services on more than one occasion including the replacement of the RMS. With that in mind and the current condition of the car, we chose to offer the car in its current condition because there were no signs of an existing issue nor is the need for an RMS replacement at this time. We also considered that Porsche found no issues with the IMS during major services.

That said, the winning bidder may opt to have the IMS replacement including a new rear main seal completed by our mechanic at his/her expense for our cost of approximately $2,300. For an additional $700 the clutch replacement can be included though it is not currently needed. Please feel free to contact us directly for details.

Have seen this very clean car in person (and I put 3 or 4 of those miles on the odo). The interior is simply tremendous, unblemished extended leather even on the rear seat console. Smells like a new baseball mitt. No squeaks or rattles during my test drive, all electronics functioning then as well. At that time (4 mo ago) the IMS had not been addressed.
Love that it's not black, and the interior is a color and condition I've not seen in the many other 996s I've looked at in the past few years.
Dealer seemed solid as well. GLWS!

Have IMS and RMS issues been addressed/corrected?
