Up for auction is this one-owner 2004 Porsche 986 Boxster finished in Guards Red over a black interior. Sought out specifically by its original owner for its updated styling, color combination, and 5-speed manual gearbox, this second-generation 986 also features the optional Bose Sound Package, heated seats, and 17” Boxster S II wheels.  Having been garage-kept throughout its entire life while undergoing all recommended service through an authorized Porsche dealer, this Boxster received a new clutch and IMS bearing upgrade within the last 5k miles and is now being offered by its original owner out of Florida with just over 66k miles showing on the odometer.

The Guards Red finish is said to have been well-preserved while exhibiting only very light scratches, detailed images are provided in the photo gallery along with a clean CARFAX.  For the second phase of 986 production, the Boxster received updated styling that more closely resembles the Carrera model.  This example rides on factory optional 17” Boxster S II wheels and the rear tires are said to have been newly replaced with the front tires bearing less than 100 miles.

Inside, you will find a black standard leather interior with optional heated seats, a CD shelf center console, an onboard computer, and the premium Bose Sound Package.  Both plastic covers are missing from the sunshade vanity mirrors and the seller reports only minor signs of wear throughout the cabin.  The A/C is said to blow ice cold and all other gauges and accessories are said to be working properly.

This 986 is equipped with a mid-mounted 2.7 L flat-six engine that sends up to 228 HP and 192 lb.-ft of torque to the rear wheels through a desirable 5-speed manual transmission.  The IMS bearing was reportedly upgraded within the last 5k miles along with the installation of a new clutch.  The thermostat was also replaced by the current owner and a new battery was installed in the last several months.  With the exception of a few routine oil changes, all scheduled maintenance is said to have been addressed through an authorized Porsche dealer including the most recent service which consisted of an oil change, new spark plugs, and ignition coils.

This sale will include the original books, tools, window sticker, and a clean title. With its lifelong one-owner history and critical IMS bearing upgrade, this Boxster is ready to begin its journey with a new driver.

You are right 2003 was the first year they used a glass rear window. I personally think it was a major improvement. The plastic window almost always yellow and cracked.

  • Porsche911 (registered bidder) 3 yearsago

I can’t remember, pleasev refresh my mind in determining which year the cars converted to a glass rear window from the plastic unit.my ‘03 had the hard top option , which was never removed.
