The Porsche 996 Targa stands out as one of the rarest versions of the 911 lineup, combining the open-air experience of a convertible with the structural rigidity of a coupe and featuring the first opening rear hatch on any Porsche 911. Powered by a 3.6-liter flat-six engine paired with a 6-speed manual transmission, this 2004 example is finished in Basalt Black Metallic over a Brown Natural Leather interior. It comes equipped with heated seats, optional 18” Carrera wheels, the Hi-Fi Sound Package, the Dark Burr Maple Wood Package, bi-xenon headlamps, red brake calipers, Custom Tailoring (special wishes that require further communication), and more. This Targa is now being offered for auction by its seller out of New York.
The 996 Targa stands out with its roof system, which includes a sliding glass panel and an electrically operated sunshade. It also has a rear window that opens like a hatch for easy access to the storage area. This example is finished in Basalt Black Metallic and comes with optional bi-xenon headlamps with washers and red brake calipers with white Porsche lettering. A set of 18” light alloy Carrera wheels with color-crested wheel caps were also opted-for and wrapped in Pirelli P Zero tires. The seller adds that a paint correction was recently performed. Detailed images are available in the gallery along with a CARFAX report, which notes a potential odometer discrepancy.
The interior presents Brown Natural Leather upholstery with color-coordinated floor mats and the Dark Burr Maple Wood Package, which adds high-quality dark burr maple wood trim on the dashboard, door panels, gear shift knob, and steering wheel. Amenities include heated seats, power windows and mirrors, dual-zone automatic climate control, cruise control, an onboard computer, a central locking system, and the Hi-Fi Sound Package. The seller adds that an upgraded Porsche Classic Communication Management has been fitted along with a new factory Targa sunshade. Very slight interior wear is noted, although all gauges and electronics are confirmed to be working properly, without any warning lights illuminated.
Power comes from a naturally aspirated 3.6-liter flat-six engine, which delivers a factory-rated 320 HP and 273 lb.-ft of torque to the rear wheels through a 6-speed manual transmission. Acceleration from 0-60 MPH takes place in approximately 5 seconds while stopping power is facilitated by fixed 4-piston brakes and ventilated discs at each corner. Additionally, it features a Fabspeed Motorsport Carbon Fiber Competition air intake system, along with new coils and plugs. Additionally, an oil and filter change is noted.
This sale will include a clean title and owner’s manuals. The CARFAX report notes a potential odometer discrepancy, although the seller contests that the car's mileage is original.
The seller would like you to know: “This is a super unique and well-maintained 996 Targa. You have the added benefit of low mileage with this example and because it's so unique is sure to hold its value over time.”

I don’t have any documentation of the IMs being replaced; but we can replace the IMS if that’s something the buyer wants. Be sure to let us know that you’d like that so we can review the details
I'm with you guys, a rollback from 40k to 20k seems odd. Also, no answer on ims yet.
Waiting for a “roll back” answers. Is this worth the risk? Car fax is “somewhat” accurate…
Anything on the IMS bearing?
@motofabio Clusrter swaps happen for a variety of reasons, we had a different 996 that was perfectly fine and needed a jump recently.
After the jump the odometer showed 99999999 and had to be sent out for reconfiguration.
There are no signs that the vehicle was a rental

cold start video attached
Oh and the odometer… that seems unlikely to be a clerical error. Why would a cluster swap have happened? Was this a rental?
@SelectAutoBK Just about two hours left and a handful of unanswered questions. Still hoping for a cold start video. IMS & bore scope questions. DME report?
Besides IMS, I'd love to know if oil has been checked for metal particulates or if the bore has been scoped? It doesn't burn oil or produce dirty exhaust on specifically the driver's side tail pipes? Wondering about evidence of bore scoring

We’ll get a video on Monday
@mrkbbd
The car is in very very nice shape
I’d have to agree that the “discrepancy” is either related to a cluster swap or the service place entering the wrong info
Can seller comment on the mileage discrepancy? Was the cluster replaced? Error in reporting? Thank you.

A cold start video would be awesome to include.
I’m looking forward to seeing whatever service records are present. Is there a chance you could get undercarriage photos? On a lift would be great, but whatever you can do. Thanks.
Hello Pcar!
This is our first Pcar listing so please show some love!
This is a very special car, most of the Targas I’ve seen have been silver/black, but not many have had this awesome color combination.
This car is clean and well maintained and will make a great car for anyone considering a Porsche 996 that will hold value over time.
It’s very user friendly and could be a great daily driver thanks to the updated PCCM with CarPlay!

@mherf
I’ll check on the IMS tomorrow and see what info we have.
For the air box; only the one that’s pictured is included
Thanks and good luck
Any chance the original air box is included?
I would also like to know if the IMS has been addressed, and if so, what specifically was used, along with date and mileage. Important since this has the most problematic IMSB, the small single row. Thanks.
Has the IMS been addressed?
