Up for auction is this 2004 Porsche 996 Turbo Cabriolet presented in Basalt Black Metallic over a Savanna Beige full leather interior.  Carrying a legendary twin turbocharged Mezger flat-six engine with the factory optional X50 Turbo Power Kit, this 2004 6-speed example represents one of the most highly desirable 996 variants on the road.  Optioned with exclusive features including the Carbon Package, Stainless Steel Exhaust Pipes and Porsche crested headrests, this Turbo commanded an original sticker price of over $222k (CAD).  This Cabriolet is now being offered for auction in fantastic condition by its seller in Canada while showing approximately 99k kilometers (61k miles) on the odometer.

The Basalt Black Metallic finish on this Turbo is said to be in excellent condition with the front bumper and hood professionally refinished under previous ownership (detailed images are provided in the photo gallery).  Marking the first year of production for the 996 Turbo Cabriolet, this 2004 example is characterized by a speed-activated rear wing and widened fenders with rear side air intakes.  Red brake calipers compliment the factory Turbo Twist wheels which come dressed in Bridgestone Potenza tires dated 2014.

Upon entry, the driver is greeted by a Savanna Beige full leather interior with carbon fiber trim.  The cabin is said to be in excellent shape with the only modifications noted as being an upgraded Blaupunkt Bluetooth head unit and a powerful Kenwood 5 channel amplifier.  All gauges and accessories remain fully functional, and the factory build sheet also highlights the following exclusive options:

  • Heated Front Seats
  • Lumbar Support
  • Carbon Package - Small
  • Savanna Beige Floor Mats
  • X50 Turbo Power Kit
  • Stainless Steel Exhaust Pipes
  • 3-Spoke Steering Wheel in Carbon/Leather
  • Porsche Crest in Headrest
  • Brake/Shifter in Carbon/Aluminum

Offering the same performance figures as the later Turbo S variant introduced the following model year, this 996 is equipped with a highly revered 3.6 L twin turbocharged Mezger flat-six engine with the factory optioned X50 Power Kit. 444 HP stock is sent to all four wheels through a desirable 6-speed manual transmission making for an impressive 0-60 time of approximately 4.2 seconds.  The X50 kit adds a larger intercooler and K24 turbos as well as a revised ECU and exhaust system which provides for an increase of 30 HP over the standard 996 Turbo.  This example has also been upgraded with a stage 1 ECU tune providing for an impressive total output of just under 500 HP (dyno sheet available).  Records dating back as far as 2014 show consistent maintenance with a new clutch installed at 60k kilometers.  A new battery has been recently installed and the seller confirms this Turbo to be in superb driving condition.

The sale of this 996 will include the original books, tools and spare tire, a set of two keys and service records.  For any enthusiast in the market for a 996 Turbo, this rare and collectible 6-speed X50 Cabriolet is not to be overlooked.

@smrog56 It appears that the web site is not uploading pic on the weekend.
To answer your question I am a member of PCA and am in the Upper Canada Region within the Niagara Region.I can recommend an excellent mechanic to complete you PPI or there is a Porsche dealer in Oakville not far away.

  • canporsche (seller) 3 years, 8 monthsago

@senor_jefe i have uploaded a few pics of under the car hope that helps

  • canporsche (seller) 3 years, 8 monthsago

to answer comments from smrog56 i have uploaded a pic of the temp gauge for the cooling capacity.I am not sure if the site uploads on the weekend but the gauge shows 32 degrees F
There are absolutely no issues with the opening and closing of the top. I have uploaded a video of the operation.

Thanks - appreciate the prompt responses. It's a great wax job then. Look forward to additional photos

Is this the same Cab that's for sale on PCA mart in Ontario?

  • smrog56 (registered bidder) 3 years, 8 monthsago

Beautiful car, couple of questions: I live in Atlanta, Ga and just spent 4k to upgrade the AC in my 87 Targa. Could you post a video of the temperature of the air at max coming from the vents? Any issues with the top? Can you also post a video of the top opening and closing?
Are you a member of PCA, what zone? Need to figure out how to have a PPI done.

  • canporsche (seller) 3 years, 8 monthsago

I do not have any undercarriage photo will try to take some tomorrow but i have no way of getting the car on a lift.
    Rear spoiler runs fine.
Coolant lines rubber hoses were replaced but not Pinned .Really only and issue if you look to track the car.
The bumper and hood was redone to eliminate stone chips. In Canada ,even though we do not drive the car for 5 to six months during the winter there is lots of gravel and sand on the road as we get anxious to start driving in the spring. The prior owner was very concerned about how the stone chips took away from the otherwise pristine nature of the car and had them eliminated.
I reviewed all the pictures and the actual car to see what you were referring to as far as the chips go ,it appears that you are seeing some cloud reflections in my super wax job !
There are a few creases in the top where it folds when retracted and one little polished mark .the top is in excellent shape . There are no scuff marks to indicate wear point I will add some better photos of the top to help clear up the blemishes that you are seeing.

Beautiful car! Would agree from research I’ve done that import duty and emissions requirements are as stated below. A few questions/requests for you @canporsche:
    - any undercarriage photos?
    - any issues with rear spoiler?
    - coolant lines pinned?
    - reason for refinishing front bumper and hood if accident free?
    - hard to say for sure because of glare but looks like some chips and scratches on front of car?
    - ditto for scuffs on cabriolet top and cover?

    Thank you very much

  • canporsche (seller) 3 years, 8 monthsago

I have verified that it meets the US emissions standards for California so therefore would meet all states.
Additionally I have requested a Letter of Compliance from Porsche ,that should be available shortly.

Seller, is there any chance you could call Porsche of North America and see if you could go ahead and obtain the Letter of Compliance needed to import into the US. I don't believe the name is important on there, merely the VIN, but someone can correct me if I'm off base there

  • canporsche (seller) 3 years, 8 monthsago

Thank you all for taking the time to look at my ad. As you can see I am in Canada but very near the US border. The car can easily be exported to the US either through Buffalo or Detroit.I can certainly assist the successful bidder with the importation.
Please note that in the Great White North we are unable to drive these vehicles during our winter months .This car has been stored typically from Oct/Nov through to Apr/May .
It has never seen salty roads or salt air.Be assured that there is absolutely NO rust anywhere on the vehicle.

  • canporsche (seller) 3 years, 8 monthsago

There are plenty of web sites .It appears that the US import duty is 2.5% of the amount paid.
The other concern is meeting State emissions requirements. I have added the sticker from the engine lid showing that although the car was imported to Canada it still meets the California emission requirements. My understanding that if it meets Cal ,it will meet all other states.

  • scragin (registered bidder) 3 years, 8 monthsago

Is there a resource which describes the process for "importing" a vehicle from Canada to the US? I know it's been discussed here before, but wonder whether there is a website that details the process and cost.
