Up for auction is this highly collectible 2004 Porsche 986 Boxster S “50 years of 550 Spyder Edition”. With only 1953 of these specially appointed Boxsters built for the final model year of the 986, these limited-edition versions pay tribute to the iconic 550 Spyder race car. This highly original Boxster S is a two-owner example with just over 32k miles currently showing on the odometer. Showcasing a host of unique specifications including 18” painted Carrera wheels, a Cocoa leather interior, and factory performance upgrades, this 6-speed 2004 example has recently been treated to an IMS bearing upgrade and is now being offered for auction by its seller out of Tennessee.
All 550 Spyder edition Boxsters were finished in GT Silver Metallic, a color that had been previously reserved for only the Carrera GT and 40th-anniversary edition 911. The finish on this example is described by the seller to be very clean with only minor imperfections as depicted in the photo gallery. The Cocoa convertible top is also reported to be in great shape and fully operational with the ball and cups having been upgraded to steel units. This example retains its unique 550 Spyder edition polished exhaust finisher and painted 18” Carrera wheels with silver outer lips. Only one wheel exhibits a small amount of curb rash and the tires are said to be in good shape with production codes dated from May of 2010.
Inside, the Coco (dark brown) leather upholstery is noted to be in very good condition and factory Sport Seats show only minor signs of wear on both the driver and passenger side bolsters. The Cocoa carpets and floor mats are also shown to be in great shape. A 550 Spyder edition dash plaque is present denoting the car as number 703 of 1953 units built in total. Factory features include the Bose High-End Sound Package, a remote 6-disc CD changer, and Porsche Communication Management II (PCM II). All factory specifications have been retained and all of the gauges and power accessories are said to be working properly.
The 986 Boxster S is equipped with a 3.2L mid-mounted flat-six engine. This being a limited-edition example features special factory tuning for an additional 6 HP and a total output of 266 HP at 6200rpm. Combined with a 6-speed manual transmission sending power to the rear wheels, this Boxster S provides a factory claimed 0-60 time of 5.7 seconds and a top speed of 165 MPH. 550 Spyder edition cars also received several other performance enhancements over the regular Boxster S including a factory short shifter, slightly lower and stiffer suspension, and Porsche Stability Management (PSM) as standard. Recent maintenance carried out by the seller in the last 100 miles includes an IMS bearing upgrade, an updated rear main seal (RMS), rear axle replacements, an oil service, power steering fluid flush, a new water pump with an upgraded brass impeller, and new hood struts. The clutch was also inspected during this time and found to be in excellent condition. All other available maintenance history is provided on CARFAX and this 986 is described as a strong running example currently in excellent mechanical condition.
This 550 Spyder edition Boxster S is being offered with a clean title, owner’s manuals, a recent service invoice, and the original tools, jack, and spare tire. This is an excellent opportunity to own a rare, special edition Porsche in turnkey driving condition, do not miss out

Neat car! When the subject of "Boxsters" comes up, inevitably someone spouts "chick car". Wrong! Boxsters are remarkably competent cars ! Not lauding myself, I raced sports cars and coached high performance driving for more than a few years.... Well driven on a track and It'll make ya scream like a 6 year old little girl :) Great car.

Can we get a photo of under the rear trunk lid. I think that’s where they put the serial number for the IMS replacement. Could we also get a photo of the order sheet(s) from the recent work completed?

Carfax shows CA history but listing shows Knoxville TN as location. Can you confirm physical location of vehicle? Also is the mark on the console display a smear or a scratch? Thank you
