Now available for auction is this 2005 BMW E46 M3 Coupe finished in Stratus Grey over a black M-texture Alcantara and leather interior. Representing the third generation of BMWs high-performance 3-Series model, the E46 remains one of the most celebrated M3s of all time. This 2005 example was ordered with a rare sunroof delete, parking sensors, and the Competition Package (ZCP) which equips cross-drilled brake rotors derived from the European-market M3 CSL, 19-inch forged alloy wheels, a specially tuned suspension, and Alcantara suede trim. Since being acquired by the current owner in 2019, upgraded KW coilovers were installed and the original automated manual SMG transmission was swapped in favor of a 6-speed manual gearbox using all OEM parts. Reported to be the only M3 in the world sporting this incredibly unique configuration, the E46 is now being offered for auction by its seller out of Florida with just over 62k miles showing on the odometer.

This E46 was ordered in the special BMW Individual color of Stratus Grey (440) at an additional cost of $2,000.  Compared to a standard E46 Coupe, the M3 is distinguished by wider fender flares, side air vents, revised front bumper, mirrors, rear valence, and M-Power quad-tip exhaust. A genuine M3 CSL trunk lid is said to have been installed by the original owner when new. The finish on this M3 is described to be well preserved owing to a lifetime of being garage-kept and a layer of clear Xpel paint protection film over the front bumper, hood, and mirrors.  The seller does note that the clear film on the mirrors has begun to yellow, detailed images are provided in the gallery along with paint meter readings and a clean CARFAX report.  The factory Competition Package 19” forged BMW Style 127 wheels come dressed in Toyo Proxes T1 Sport tires showing date codes from 2017.

The cabin is trimmed in black leather with unique M-texture Alcantara upholstery on the seat centers and door panels. Competition Package Milled-Effect Aluminum trim lines the dashboard, center console, and door panels. The Competition Package also provides a thickened Alcantara-wrapped multi-function M-Sport steering along with a matching handbrake lever and headliner. Additional features include heated power front seats with driver memory, a rear sunshade, pop-out quarter windows, and a Harmon Kardon Hi-Fi sound system. The seller notes some wear to the driver’s seat and a few scratches on the center console.  A new headliner was also fitted under the current ownership.

Power comes from the venerable 3.2L S54 inline-six, which generates up to 333 HP and 269 lb.-ft of torque. The S54 utilizes motorsport-derived technology including individual throttle bodies, quasi-dry sump lubrication, and double VANOS variable valve timing. The Competition Package equips larger two-piece cross-drilled rotors, a reduced steering ratio, and an M Track Mode that raises the threshold in which the Dynamic Stability Control will intervene. Power is delivered to the rear wheels through a 6-speed manual transmission and a limited-slip differential which were installed under the current ownership by Eurompire of North Carolina. A short shifter kit from Rogue Engineering was also installed during this time. The original SMG transmission components are said to accompany the sale.  An upgraded KW V2 coilover suspension was also installed under the current ownership.  Services carried out since 2019 include the replacement of the clutch master cylinder, windshield washer pump, an oil change, and a brake fluid flush. Some invoices are provided for reference in the gallery.

This sale will include a set of two keys, the original window sticker, owner's manuals, service records, and a clean title.  A steadily appreciating European sports car, this very nicely optioned Competition Package M3 presents a great opportunity to own a future BMW classic.

  • Sylverlee (registered bidder) 2 years, 6 monthsago

    @Edu09 The rod bearings and subframe are still OEM right?

  • Edu09 (seller) 2 years, 6 monthsago

    @Sylverlee thanks! It is even better in person, it is a unique color, gets goldish with light and grey on the shade

  • Sylverlee (registered bidder) 2 years, 6 monthsago

    @Edu09 This color is amazing.

  • Edu09 (seller) 2 years, 6 monthsago

    @teamgomez yeah I noticed the typo E39, I thought you meant E30 slicktop, I do have an E30 M3 slicktop that will go on BaT in a couple of weeks, want to keep only the new ones (1M and M2) but wont cry if these old ones don't sell

  • teamgomez 2 years, 6 monthsago

    Yes- pending a natural disaster that pits mankind against one another, the slick top E46 (E39 typo...also have Beast M5 on the brain) will surely outpace inflation. And even if it didn't, it would still retain the return on 'smiles per mile' that few others can deliver. Will be watching and, who knows, maybe I figure something out in the next 48 hrs that sends the vultures fleeing!

  • Edu09 (seller) 2 years, 6 monthsago

    @teamgomez thanks for your comments and I know the feeling man, I am having already 2nd thoughts about selling this one, I still have a 1M and an M2 in my garage so still can go to get groceries lol but the specs of this car are unique, I wont be able to find another one like this if I ever want another E46 M3 so it is a tough decision, there is always the possibility that it doesnt sell, if that happens I will keep it for a few more years, its price will only go up with time, future classic for sure

  • teamgomez 2 years, 6 monthsago

    Edu09 you may regret parting ways with a slick top E39...I did so 3 years ago for a 996 GT3 yet here I am, dreaming about another slick-top ZCP. Could go get groceries in it or do things we don't tell the wife about (solely in ref to why we only get 5k miles out of a set of PS4's...). Not sure I can part with the GT3 to open up the slot for another ZCP, but the gears are in OD trying to figure out how. Beautiful car- GLWA.

  • Edu09 (seller) 2 years, 6 monthsago

    @Nygator09 i bought a 997.2 GT3 and a 991.2 GT3, trying to build up a GT3 collection, currently looking for a 991.2 GT3RS so need to sell this E46 and an E30 M3 euro spec I have

  • Edu09 (seller) 2 years, 6 monthsago

    @Nygator09 the last invoice from Continental Imports should be in the gallery, there you can see all work done
    tires have still 80% tread left

  • Edu09 (seller) 2 years, 6 monthsago

    @Nygator09 i took it to Continental Imports in Gainesville 3 weeks ago to have the slave cylinder clutch and the windshield wiper water pump replaced and everything else was checked and everything else was ok, car is in perfect condition, no leaks or rattles, paint is all original, see the paint readings posted, no paint work anywhere, no rust either, this car is clean

  • Nygator09 (registered bidder) 2 years, 6 monthsago

    Out of curiosity, which Porsche direction did you go? Asking because I am considering moving the other way: Porsche to BMW.

  • Nygator09 (registered bidder) 2 years, 6 monthsago

    Great looking ZCP and looks like a clean swap.

    Do you have a recent PPI available? If not, any other blemishes/issues to note (rust, paint repair, oil leaks, rattles, weird smells, etc.)?

    How is current tire and brake wear?

  • Edu09 (seller) 2 years, 6 monthsago

    @Crundie sorry for the confusion, those pictures of the manual seats correspond to my other interlagos blue e46 M3, i was trying to show that the worn out spots on the seats can be easily fixed same way i fixed those on the seats of the interlagos blue which are the manual seats, m-alcantara too but manual, this stratus grey has power seats

  • Crundie (registered bidder) 2 years, 6 monthsago

    According to the Monroney the seats should be power operated. Can you explain the manual controls in pic 132? If you accidentally included photos of a similar car, can you please confirm that all other photos are of the car that is for sale?

    @gregthegr8 i just posted some pictures of the driver seat showing the spots where it is worn out, also posted a picture of another e46 M3 seat that i had with these same m-aclantara interior and was in worst shape than this one but was an easy fix (you can see on the pics), the guy who restored them was in NC and did the job while that car was being swapped the transmission too, that car was an interlagos blue, I tried to call him to get help with these seats but he has moved to Hawaii and I haven't found anybody in my area to do this job, it is not even expensive (paid $250 for the IB) but need to find the right person to do it

  • Edu09 (seller) 2 years, 6 monthsago

    @gregthegr8 yes sure, i will post some pics of that spot, it is a slight wear on that bolster, it is not that bad

  • gregthegr8 (registered bidder) 2 years, 6 monthsago

    @Edu09
    Hey, is it possible to see a picture of the driver's seat side bolster on the driver's door side? The descriptions mentions some wear on the driver's seat, which unfortunately is seemingly on most BMW sports seats out there, but there weren't any pictures showing that. It's possible it might have been included in some of the pictures that don't seem to load on the site. Thanks in advance and beautiful car.

  • Edu09 (seller) 2 years, 6 monthsago

    I will upload on Monday the invoice from Eurompire for the transmission swap, vanos repair, differential leakage fix, replacement of thermostat and temp sensor, everything was done by Eurompire at the time of the transmission swap, total bill was $6,485.80

  • Edu09 (seller) 2 years, 6 monthsago

    @audipwr1 vanos was repaired and a new valve cover gasket was installed, subframe didnt present any cracks so wasnt reinforced, as mentioned in the description the shop who did the swap was Eurompire in NC, the steering wheel was replaced with the oem zcp for 6mt, you dont replace the cluster when doing the swap

  • audipwr1 (registered bidder) 2 years, 6 monthsago

    1. Valves adjusted?
    2. Rear subframe reinforced
    3. Who did the SMG to manual swap? Couldnt tell replace the steering wheel and cluster?
