A launch-year example of the 997, this 2005 Porsche 911 Carrera Coupe is finished in Seal Grey Metallic over a Cocoa Special Leather interior and features an optional Sport steering wheel, Bose High-End Sound Package, Bi-Xenon Headlamp Package, and a 6-speed manual transmission. The car is said to have been cared for by two prior owners during which time an engine rebuild, clutch replacement, and IMS bearing upgrade were completed. This 997 is now being offered for auction by its seller on the East Coast showing approximately 42k miles on the odometer.
This Coupe is finished in Seal Grey Metallic and rides on a set of aftermarket 19” forged wheels with Porsche-crested center caps. Other modifications include yellow-painted brake calipers, rear “Carrera S” badging, and aftermarket chrome exhaust tips. The Michelin Pilot Super Sport tires show production date codes from 2016 and the seller states a layer of older paint protection film was recently removed from the front end. Detailed images are provided in the gallery along with a clean CARFAX report.
The cabin features Cocoa Special Leather upholstery with matching floor mats, an optional Sport steering wheel, and a black Alcantara headliner. Driver amenities include automatic climate control, power-adjustable seats, the Bose High-End Sound Package, and Porsche Communication Management (PCM). The seller describes the interior to be in excellent condition with all gauges and accessories working properly.
A naturally aspirated 3.6-liter flat-six engine delivers up to 325 HP and 273 lb.-ft of torque to the rear wheels by way of a 6-speed manual transmission. Acceleration from 0-60 MPH takes place in less than 5 seconds while stopping power comes from fixed 4-piston brakes and cross-drilled discs at each corner. The seller states the engine was rebuilt at 27k miles following IMS bearing failure, and a new heavy-duty IMS bearing was installed during the rebuild along with a new clutch.
This sale will include a clean title, owner’s manuals, the original window sticker, and a Porsche Certificate of Authenticity.

@65cl Mostly service and oil and filter change changes. The only real repair was a shifter cable that was done at the Porsche Dealer in Ocala FL on 02/18/1920. It was $1,400.
Regarding the cold start. The car had been sitting for quite a while. This said I think the battery has become a bit weak from lack of driving. Yesterday I decided to pop in a new battery. If I can get it done today (Presidents Day) it will be replaced, otherwise tomorrow. I don't want the new owner to inherit a bad battery.

1. There is a stack of receipts in the photographs, can you write out any important/ notable repair items that are not mentioned in the listing?
2. In the start up vid, there's a few quick gas presses. Context (?) Does it start w/o issue?
@211Broadway Sport Chrono is great for the track. The only way to get a change in throttle response is three fold. Put in Sport, put in Sport Plus or hammer it - throttle floored which will tell the car you want to go fast so only shift at redline. This car has never been to the track.
@65cl Not to my knowledge.
Nice but no Sport Chrono package (SCP). The SCP is fantastic, not for the chrono but for increased trottle response.
@rhart @rhartdid the shop happen to take pics of the location of the hole/repair?
@65cl Pretty late to get bore scope done esp. on a weekend but consider this. Car has only done 13 or 14,000 miles since engine was taken apart and there was no issues at that time.
Regarding the IMS, we purposely used the, as he put it, "massive single row bearing" from the 08 car with the seal removed. At that time L&N if I recall correctly was only providing a 25,000 mile warranty on their bearing.
Also - What IMS upgrade was performed? (Aftermarket such as LN Eng?)
Beautiful Ride! Has there been a recent bore scope performed by any chance? I take it its too late in the auction to get it done.

@rhart Good for you. I'm 12 years behind you and have vivid memories of a certain actor by the name of Paul Newman doing amazing things at Lime Rock in his 80's.

@Quackbury LOL. Actually the car was in FL where we first moved after escaping from CA. We are now in GA for the winter and NC mountains for the summer. Thanks for the comments. Not an accident tho since my wife and I eat mainly birdseed and saw dust and work out 6 days a week. I'm now convinced after being on the planet for such a long time that treating your body like it is the only one you will ever have has def. paid off. Orig knees and hips and even shoulders. Two months ago I bought a Cayman S to get back to tracking. I didn't want to mess up this 997 car or the Turbo. :)

Forget about the car. As nice as it is, it's a commodity. Whereas YOU, Mr. Hart, are my hero. *0 years old, a stable full of Porsches, rocking that 6MT with no sign of bad knees, bad hips or "did I forget to upshift"?
I'm unclear as to whether you and the car are in FL or GA, but I would love to be a fly on the wall when the 36-year-old civil servant RMV examiner takes you for a test drive to see if you are still fit to drive ... in your new Turbo S. I got lucky on the case hole. One ball bearing from the IMS went through. I remember the rebuilder saying it was the best spot for it too happen making the repair easy and good as new. The warranty was for one year so the engine is not any longer warrantied. The warrant and no other language suggests cylinder sleeves. The warranty merely states what warranty length is on any parts that MAY have been placed in the engine. For full list of items replaced please refer to the attached invoice.

@rhart Thank you. Invoice states "repaired HOLE in crankcase" . Any idea how extensive this repaired hole may have been? Warranty suggests new cylinder sleeves but no indication on invoice. Just trying to get a picture of what was involved here. Note Including engine must be shipped back for any warranty is there any warranty remaining? Thanks in advance for details.
I just went through the Carfax. This is a two owner car purchased from a family of a friend of mine, the original owner. As is often the case Carfax marks an owners departure from one state and relocation to another state as a change of ownership when it was just a change in registration in a different state. Same happened to me when I moved from CA to FL. So two owners became four. Copious paperwork trail which will come with car will prove this out.

@rhart thank you… you state “ very little damage” was done to engine from IMS failure! Not to be critical of your comment but it doesn’t take much damage to be costly… do you have the detailed invoice for the rebuild that could be posted? Or provide more details? Obviously this is a critical item and concern for any of us bidding!… Thank you for your indulgence!

@diplohero Reason I'm selling is I bought a Turbo S and planned to keep the 997 but I always seem to jump in the Turbo. The car has been languishing for 6 months or so, so it should go to a home where it sees more action.
@diplohero If you look at the photos you will see it was rebuilt at 27,000. I used the car as a daily driver for the ensuing years. The mileage was kept low bec I have a half dozen Porsches. It has never let me down save the shift linkage going out which is pretty common in the 6 speeds. Then engine was so well done that it literally leaks no oil whatsoever. Not even a little oozing! I've owned many dozen P cars in my 80 years and very few non-new cars were this dry underneath.
@BR356 To be clear and transparent this is the original engine. The first owner of the car knew it was a low mile car with the original IMS so when he heard the dreaded sound he turned the key off very quickly. There was very little damage to the internals. You can see the build sheet in the photos. I knew I was going to keep the car for a long time so though it did not need a clutch and a couple other items I replaced them anyway "as long as we were in there". The work was done by 9XX in Long Beach CA. A shop with an exemplary reputation for doing 911 engines. That is all he and his father do and they are damn good at it.
A second question: how many miles have you put on the car since the IMS was replaced and have there been any serious issues since the IMS was replaced? AW, Arlington, Va.

I have been following other auctions.....to be clear this is a rebuilt motor that had the IMS failure, so although it is numbers matching, it was rebuilt, not replaced?

BTW Lobster Claws are easily purchased on eBay and other places for $300-400. These forged wheels sell for much more than that so they can changed out painlessly
