A 997 generation launch model, this 2005 Porsche 911 Carrera S Coupe comes finished in GT Silver Metallic over a black full leather interior and features a 6-speed manual transmission connected to its 3.8-liter flat-six. The car was ordered with the optional Power Seat Package, Porsche crested headrests, a rear window wiper, and a three-spoke multifunction steering wheel. It was sold new from Porsche of Oakland, California, and received a replacement engine installed by Porsche Walnut Creek within the last 20k miles. This 997 is now being offered for auction by its seller out of California with approximately 91k miles on the odometer.

This Coupe is finished in GT Silver Metallic and is distinguishable as a Carrera S by its red-painted brake calipers and quad exhaust outlets. It rides on factory 19” Carrera S wheels and the seller states clear paint protection film is applied over the front end. The car is said to have original paint, with the exception of the hood. The seller notes a scrape on the front bumper, detailed images are shown in the gallery, along with a clean carfax report.

The black full leather interior features optional heated and power operated front seats with Porsche-crested headrests. Driver amenities include automatic climate control, a remote 6-disc CD changer, Navigation for PCM, and a multifunction steering wheel in leather. Minimal signs of wear are reported, and the seller confirms all gauges and accessories are fully functional.

A naturally aspirated 3.8-liter flat-six engine delivers up to 355 HP and 295 lb.-ft of torque to the rear wheels by way of a 6-speed manual transmission. The engine and clutch are said to have been replaced by Porsche Walnut Creek at 74,044 miles with a Factory Replacement Motor that included the larger IMS bearing. Detailed and comprehensive service history by Porsche dealers are provided in the gallery.

This sale will include the original window sticker, owner’s manuals, and a clean title.

    @scott740

The HVAC buttons aren't sticky, but the fan/temp toggles are worn. I'll be including a set with the car for the new owner. The dash leather has a small indent above the right cup holder, no hole.

@cgolseth I say yes, that it's the larger updated IMS with a ~1% failure rate on a very new engine.

@rexracer96 : Are the HVAC temp buttons the only sticky buttons? Are the marks on the passenger side dash indentions or actual perforations in the vinyl?
    Thanks

  • idealtechies (registered bidder) 1 year, 2 monthsago

@rexracer96 Thanks for that, it really helps especially having the "AT" references to Remanufacture motor

  • rexracer96 (seller) 1 year, 2 monthsago

@Sylverlee Good point on the motor serial number, I was able to get under the car and grab a photo of the serial number, it’s been added to the gallery. It shows the M97 designation along with the AT designation for a replaced motor. Here are some links in relation to the 997 and IMS issues that may be useful.

    https://rennlist.com/forums/997-forum/992924-curious-m97-engine-number.html

Additionally, I added paint meter readings and a photo of the underside of the motor, it honestly reminded me of the methodology I used when buying the car last year. It’s a clean, enthusiast owned, dealer-serviced 911 with a 17k motor and clean carfax. Perfect for when I wanted to take the wife up to Ojai Valley Inn for the weekend and didn't want to hear about the RS and its uncomfortable seats, but still enjoy the drive.

The car has great brakes, its suspension is tight, its original paint(with the exception of the hood), the oil changed, and adventure-ready.

As we get into the final hours of this auction, I’ll do my best to respond as quickly as possible, Happy Bidding!

  • idealtechies (registered bidder) 1 year, 2 monthsago

@Sylverlee Correct with the engine number it gives you a better idea if it had the upgraded bearing or not but I don't think its guarantee. In any case @rexracer96 are you able to take a photo of the engine number under the block?

  • Sylverlee (registered bidder) 1 year, 2 monthsago

@idealtechies I think there's a serial on the motor that would indicate if its the new IMS - if it starts with a M97? That might be one way if there's no documentation

  • idealtechies (registered bidder) 1 year, 2 monthsago

Hi, I just called Walnut Creek Porsche to verify a few things. 1. They told me that the motor was replaced with a motor based on the vin so it was a 2005 motor but they could not confirm if it was a core rebuild or a new / old stock. When the dealer put the order in the it was categorized as "New" Long block. 2. They also could NOT confirm that a new IMS bearing was in the block either. They said since the long block was "New" there was no reason for them to replace it. This does not confirm that the new bearing is the updated double bearing either. There was no documentation that states which bearing was installed. They said there is a chance it has the old bearing in there but it wouldn't make sense. In anycase because there is a chance and no way to verify it from Walnut Creek Porsche do you have any documentation that states its the new bearing?

  • rexracer96 (seller) 1 year, 2 monthsago

@idealtechies Thanks for asking and not sure of the video order, but the motor only has 17K miles on it and therefore, no smoke on startup.

  • idealtechies (registered bidder) 1 year, 2 monthsago

Was the 2nd video a cold start? does it smoke at all during a cold start?

@Sylverlee I have not done a Porsche inspection under my ownership, but if you want me to see if I can get it in tomorrow at Rusnak Porsche, just let me know through the “contact seller” button. I think they charge $495 and it is now called a “safety” inspection due to liability reasons.

    feel free to PM me

  • Sylverlee (registered bidder) 1 year, 2 monthsago

@rexracer96 makes sense. Has a dealer done an inspection on it while you've owned it?

  • rexracer96 (seller) 1 year, 2 monthsago

@Sylverlee Actually, I bought the car with a 89,672 (from owner 4) so have added approximately 1,300 miles which is still not a lot, but did do a couple short road trips with my wife as she likes the more "compliant ride" of the Carrera S as compared to the "teeth-rattling" suspension of the GT3 RS. :-)

  • Sylverlee (registered bidder) 1 year, 2 monthsago

@rexracer96 looks to be in great condition. You have a nice set of cars there so can’t blame you for not driving it much. But has it been <300mi under your ownership?

  • rexracer96 (seller) 1 year, 2 monthsago

@Sylverlee I actually purchased it from the Chief mechanic at PDQ Import repair in June of last year. But, there was a loan on the car and once it was finally processed, the bank attempted to send the title directly to my "Yellowstone Ranch :-)" in MT, but it was never received and got sent back, then shredded by the state of WA (no joke), then a duplicate issued, etc. Basically, it's been a complete fiasco and I will NEVER buy a car with a lien on it again!
The tires are at approximately 80% and I'll see if I can get measurements done with a tire depth gauge prior to the auction ending.

Will also get some paint meter readings completed and uploaded prior to the auction end.

  • cgolseth (registered bidder) 1 year, 2 monthsago

Yep, wheels looks good. That said, can’t really see rubber on the tires. What condition are they in???

  • Sylverlee (registered bidder) 1 year, 2 monthsago

@rexracer96 so you’ve only had the car for 2 months? Sorry if it’s made clear somewhere already

  • rexracer96 (seller) 1 year, 2 monthsago

    @Sylverlee owner 6 and 7 are me.

Photo 59 shows that the power steering was flushed as part of the 60k service. The car turns in and handles like the beautifully balanced and engineered 911 it is.

Nice to see a video wherein a Porsche is driven properly fast,
Montana still an unlimited speed state? It was in the good old days. I was passed there once by a 328 Ferrari running flat out. That’s a sound and sight one doesn’t forget!

  • Sylverlee (registered bidder) 1 year, 2 monthsago

@Sylverlee And do you have any information on recent suspension work? Is it on all original shocks etc

  • Sylverlee (registered bidder) 1 year, 2 monthsago

Is the seller owner 6 and 7 on the carfax? Thanks

Pretty Car! Looking at the pics, no close ups of the wheels. Can that be added? Curious of condition and curb rash. THX!

  • rexracer96 (seller) 1 year, 2 monthsago

Added a cold start and driving video, please enjoy!

  • rexracer96 (seller) 1 year, 2 monthsago

@Essence-of-Speed2 Yes, the car is currently located in CA and although I don't have a recent smog, I do guarantee it will pass and will provide a smog certificate should it end up staying in the Republic of CA.

  • Essence-of-Speed2 (registered bidder) 1 year, 2 monthsago

Will the car be smogged for California and is the car in CA now?

  • jackterrence (registered bidder) 1 year, 2 monthsago

@seller Appreciate your thoroughness and transparency as that is becoming more and more rare these days. Well-documented car in the right color combo and I always loved the lines of the 997!

  • rexracer96 (seller) 1 year, 2 monthsago

@maj75 Great question and it is ALWAYS good to be thorough! I did just reconfirm with Porsche Walnut Creek that it is a BRAND NEW motor and NOT a rebuilt.

And while the detailed invoice info is shown in picture 53, to make it easier for you and others, here is their link https://www.porschewalnutcreek.com/ and Tim Wong is the service writer I just spoke to. The invoice number is 134458 and as they may also ask for the last 7 digits of the VIN, it is S741469.

Again, I love your thoroughness! And as President Bill Clinton always said, "Trust, but verify".

OK, maybe a less slick President said that :-)

  • maj75 (registered bidder) 1 year, 2 monthsago

@rexracer96 I called and spoke to Suncoast Porsche and according to them, the Porsche replacement motors are factory rebuilt. I don’t have any information as to Porsche’s rebuild procedure, but I would assume it’s very good. But technically they are not “new.”

  • MarkTodo 1 year, 2 monthsago

Bid in the amount of $15,500

  • rexracer96 (seller) 1 year, 2 monthsago

@maj75 It was a new factory motor, if you take a look at photo 53 in the gallery, you'll see Porsche part #997-100-997-BX referenced on the invoice.

In addition take a look at the walk around video just added.

  • maj75 (registered bidder) 1 year, 2 monthsago

Was the replacement engine a “new” 0 hour engine, a factory refurbished engine or a used engine?

  • rexracer96 (seller) 1 year, 2 monthsago

@Lash119 We called and spoke with the service department at Walnut Creek Porsche, they indeed noted it as IMS failure.

  • 65cl (registered bidder) 1 year, 2 monthsago

@Lash119 Its almost always the IMS in those 05s...

  • Lash119 1 year, 2 monthsago

Just curious, why was the engine replaced?

  • rexracer96 (seller) 1 year, 2 monthsago

@155MPH I believe PCAR may have mentioned it in the verbiage above, but it is a lot to read through and to answer your question, Yes the factory replacement motor has the the larger IMS bearing

  • rexracer96 (seller) 1 year, 2 monthsago

    Hey everyone!

Thanks for showing interest in my car, super excited to be working with PCar to present this beautiful Porsche. I'll be on the road traveling the next few days, but I'll make myself available as much as possible to answer any questions you may have.

  • 155MPH (registered bidder) 1 year, 2 monthsago

Since the replacement engine was in 2013 is it safe to assume it has the larger non-serviceable IMS?
