Designated as a launch model for the 997 generation, this 2005 Porsche 997 Carrera S Cabriolet comes finished in Arctic Silver Metallic over a Black full leather interior and features a 6-speed manual transmission as well as optional 19” Carrera Classic wheels, Spot Chrono Package Plus, Power Seat Package, and Bose High-End Sound Package. It was acquired locally by the seller in 2020 and was sold to a friend of his in 2021 who added less than 8k miles during their ownership. It was recently reacquired by the seller and is now being offered for auction out of Florida with just over 44k miles showing on the odometer.

This Carrera S is finished in Arctic Silver Metallic with a black cabriolet roof and features red-painted brake calipers, quad exhaust outlets, and a speed-activated rear spoiler. The car rides on optional 19” Carrera Classic wheels with colored Porsche crest center caps. The seller notes the Carrera emblem was replaced in 2022 and a set of new Bridgestone tires was mounted in 2020 at 35,300 miles. The seller adds that a layer of clear paint protection film was removed in 2021 followed by some touch-up paintwork on the forward quarter panels. Some very small rock chips are noted on the hood as well as some curb rash on two of the wheels and a missing piece of plastic from the cabriolet top. Detailed images are provided in the gallery along with paint meter readings and a clean CARFAX report.

Inside, this 997 features Black full leather upholstery including optional heated and power-operated seats. Other options include self-dimming mirrors, Navigation for PCM, a remote 6-disc CD changer, the Bose High-End Sound Package, and Sport Chrono Package Plus which adds a lap timer stopwatch to the center dashboard. The rearview mirror was replaced in 2022 and both sun visors were replaced earlier in 2023. The seller adds that the cabin remains in very good overall condition apart from slightly sticky buttons on the radio and an area of failed pixels on the digital Sport Chrono display.

A naturally aspirated 3.8-liter flat-six engine sends up to 355 HP and 295 lb.-ft of torque to the rear wheels by way of a 6-speed manual transmission. The seller indicates a 30k-mile service was completed in 2012 and the last full service was completed in 2022 at 40,491 miles. A collection of service records is available dating back to 2012.

This sale will include some records, owner’s manuals, a Porsche Windstop, and a clean title.

@787LH the bumper was take off to replace the horns. it was put back on and not replaced

  • tampabaysportscars (seller) 9 monthsago

@Porschelover30 Well I took the car in on a trade for a C4S. The suspension is fine and I do not hear any ticking

  • Porschelover30 (registered bidder) 9 monthsago

Can seller shed a little light on why he purchased the car back and then turned around and sold it again.

Also any ticking sound from the engine?
    How is the suspension?

    $5000 for IMS and clutch

  • tampabaysportscars (seller) 9 monthsago

@AnyOldIron Well while your there it seems crazy not to replace the clutch

  • AnyOldIron (registered bidder) 9 monthsago

@tampabaysportscars thanks for that. I assume the $3500 is for IMS only - and doesn’t include the new clutch.

  • tampabaysportscars (seller) 9 monthsago

@AnyOldIron Normal the shop I use to replace a IMS is around $3,500 and normally it gets a new clutch.

  • AnyOldIron (registered bidder) 9 monthsago

Genuine question for the audience here. It would appear that 2005 still suffered the potential IMS issue. If the IMS bearing has not been replaced (which the seller is unsure on - which is fine), what is the preventative cost (ballpark) of having it done to avoid any issues.

  • AnyOldIron (registered bidder) 9 monthsago

@tampabaysportscars is it missing something? A plug?

  • Bearharley (registered bidder) 9 monthsago

@tampabaysportscars My apologies, I misunderstood the description and thought there was an issue with the screen for the radio/map. thanks for clarifying.

  • tampabaysportscars (seller) 9 monthsago

@AnyOldIron It is part of the top. Please refer to photo #147 for a better view.

  • AnyOldIron (registered bidder) 9 monthsago

What is the hole showing in picture 80?

I assume your referring to the protection film being removed and some touch up paint was apply.
The coating was old and needed to be remove sometimes when the film is old it comes off with a little paint. There was no damage.
There is no evidence of rust

  • 787LH (registered bidder) 9 monthsago

Greetings: The Car Fox says no accidents or damage. But, there is a record of removal and replacement of the front bumper cover. And in some photos the front bumper appears to be a darker color. Do you know what prompted the front bumper cover removal and replacement? Any evidence of rust or corrosion? Thanks and good luck!

@Steve77 The number is a little difficult to read so I went ahead and sent a photo to PCarMarket to upload for us. That should be added to the gallery soon. (I was not able to add the number to this text box as it was flagged as "contact information" for some reason).

    Great looking car!
Any evidence of IMS replacement (I believe 2005 still have the serviceable version)?
Also, was it ever checked for bore scoring (somewhat common issue on the 3.8's)?
