Now available for auction is this modified 2005 Porsche 996 GT3 finished in Guards Red. Representing one of the most desirable Porsches of the modern era, the 996 GT3 is sought after for its visceral driving characteristics and 3.6 L Mezger flat-six engine. This 2005 example was purchased by its current owner about 6 years ago before undergoing extensive upgrades including track safety equipment, Moton Club Sport shocks, and a complete Porsche Motorsport M96 Cup engine and transmission rebuild by Goldcrest Motorsport in 2018 at 28k miles. Having only been driven for street use and non-competitive D.E. track events, this race-ready 996 is reported to be in excellent mechanical order and is now being offered for auction on behalf of its owner out of Tennessee while showing just over 29k miles on the odometer.
The Guards Red finish is said to be in very good overall condition with only a few imperfections noted on the lower portions. The front clip is said to have been previously refinished following minor cosmetic damage, and a brushed steel vinyl wrap has been applied over the front hood, roof, and wing. Detailed images are provided in the photo gallery along with paint meter readings and a clean CARFAX. External modifications include an IMSA/Wolf Henzler front splitter, a 996 GT3 Cup decklid, a 63” wing, and Champion wheels dressed in Nitto NT-01 tires (expired for racing).
Inside, the black leather interior has been optimized for track use with the installation of Cobra Pro racing seats, Brey-Krause seat mounts, Schroth harnesses, a red-painted DAS half cage, Halon extinguisher, and an AIM Solo timer. Other modifications include Rennline mats and aluminum pedal covers, a removable OMP steering wheel, and decorative red accents. The cabin is noted to be in great shape with all gauges and accessories working properly. The racing seats and harnesses are expired for race use.
In March of 2018 at 28,147 miles, the 3.6 L Mezger flat-six underwent a full PMNA M96 Cup engine rebuild by Goldcrest Motorsports. This build included independent inspection and verification of the heads, valves, and guides, as well as welding of the coolant pipes, and installation of new Cup valve springs, Carrillo rods, and fasteners to optimize reliability, performance, and longevity. The 6-speed manual gearbox was also rebuilt with Porsche Motorsports 8:32 ring and pinion, a Cup clutch, pressure plate, flywheel, a PMNA shifter, cables, and differential discs. Other upgrades include a SpeedTechGT3 X-cellerator exhaust, Pagid yellow brake pads, Grand Am wheel studs, Moton Club Sport shocks, and 700/800 Hypercoil springs. Under the current ownership over the past six years, this GT3 has been maintained exclusively by Goldcrest Motorsports and all records are said to be available including a recent full service and inspection carried out to ensure excellent mechanical order. One other note related to engine performance. This Porsche gets driven on the street regularly. We have very strict emission requirements in Nashville. This GT3 has full header and exhaust system with secondary 200 cell cats. It passes emissions without issue. No codes! Happy bidding.
@Ksdaoski Thanks for the question. Sorry it was not made clear with the add. The driver airbag has been replaces with quick-release wheel. The passenger airbag is still in tact but disabled from the ECU. It can be turned back on with Porsche System Tester. No check engine lights in my world. They are forbidden! Thank you for your bid. @1Cerberus4u yes, rebuilds every 40 hours of you are a race team needing to win races by hundredths of seconds. Cup cars are competitive up through 150hrs but will last a long time over that with minimal performance reduction.
Did you keep the A/C in the car by chance?
@1Cerberus4u I’m not sure how you are calculating your math but you don’t have calculate hours on this type of build. The case is a Motorsport case which in the 996 Cup is the same as the 996 GT3. The internals, machining and build specs were designed for a balance of durability and performance. Like other Porsche engine builds, including race engines, there is no set rebuild interval. The health of the engine dictates rebuild. This is a very well built GT3 engine with lightened hardened material intended for great performance for street or track. Please take a close look at the build receipts and specifications. Place a bid and hopefully you will win a GT3 you can enjoy on the track and street for many years to come with minimal expense.
So, if it is a real "cup" motor, it now has about 23 hours on it? Rebuilds every 40?
@switchcars Thanks for your comments. The GT3 is still in great shape and even better. The sign of a very fast car is one that is easy to drive hard. This car I jump in and hammer time! It loves it and delivers fantastic performance. Be sure to review all the service documentation. Its the last 10% that matters in performance and this car has the last 10% dialed-in. I’ll submit some driving video this weekend.
Wow, what a flashback. A good customer of mine owned this car back in the late 2000s, and I spent a fair amount of time in the right seat instructing his daughter on track. Those were some of the happiest moments of a very dark period of my life. Not sure how the car is now, but at the time it was very well set up and properly maintained by the best shop in the business.

The signature is from world class racer and good freind Andy Pilgrim. Andy teaches high performance driving at the National Corvette Motorsports complex (NCM) in Bowling Green, KY. He trains drivers in the art of Corvette handling. I think Andy still holds the lap record at NCM. Awesome driver and great facility.
