Introduced in 2003, the V70 R was a high-performance version of Volvo’s V70 station wagon equipped with a 2.5L turbocharged five-cylinder engine, Haldex all-wheel-drive system, upgraded Brembo brakes, 17” Pegasus wheels, revised aerodynamics, and a “Four C” semi adaptive suspension. This example was delivered new to Watertown, Connecticut, in Mystic Silver Metallic over a Nordkap Blue leather interior and optioned with a five-speed automatic transmission.  This V70 R remained in Connecticut up until 2011 before relocating to California where it is now being offered for auction at no reserve showing approximately 228k miles on the odometer.

The exterior of this V70 R is finished in Mystic Silver Metallic (426) and features a model-specific “R” front grille as well as more aggressive bumper covers, a power glass moonroof, a rear spoiler, bi-xenon headlights with wipers, fog lights, and grey brake calipers with white “R” logos. The seller reports some areas of the paint have been touched up, the headlights wipers are not functional, the rear bumper tow hook cover is missing, and the underside of the front bumper shows scraping. Additionally, the left side of the hood is slightly elevated when compared to the other side, and there is a scratch on the passenger side rear quarter panel. The interior is upholstered in Nordkap Blue leather extending from the seating surfaces to the center console and door panels. Amenities include 8-way power-adjustable heated front seats, automatic dual-zone climate control, a power sunroof, aluminum trim, “R” branded blue-faced instrumentation, cruise control, parking sensors, a fold-down rear seat, and a rear trunk cargo net. The seller reports that a new OEM center air duct has been fitted as well as an auxiliary audio cord for the factory radio. The CD changer no longer works and signs of wear are present on the seats and floor mats.

The V70 R is powered by a 2.5L turbocharged 5-cylinder engine which produces up to 300 HP and 295 lb.-ft of torque, driving all four wheels through a 5-speed automatic transmission and a Haldex all-wheel-drive system. Standard performance features include 4-piston Brembo brake calipers, a larger turbocharger producing 15 psi of boost, twin intercoolers, redesigned camshafts, and variable valve timing. The Volvo “Four C” (Continuously Controlled Chassis Concept) semi-active suspension also allows the driver to select from three different drive modes. This V70 R is accompanied by extensive service records, with the most recent service performed by Volvo specialists at AE Motorsports of Santa Cruz, California, including a valve purge, repair of the rear hatch locking mechanism, a new fuel door release, a transmission flush, a new tailgate harness, replacement of the gear selector circuitry, and installation of a new splash guard. The seller reports the radiator was also replaced under their ownership.
