Representing the third-generation BMW M3, the E46 is renowned for its well-balanced chassis and high-revving S54 inline 6-cylinder engine. Finished in Carbon Black Metallic over a matching interior, this final-year 2006 M3 convertible features the SMG automated manual gearbox, 19” wheels, cold weather package, and more. Specially ordered by its first and only owner, this M3 convertible is now being offered by the seller out of Illinois showing approximately 64k miles.

Finished in Carbon Black Metallic with a matching soft top, this M3 features optional Xenon lights with washers, thanks to the cold weather package, and 19” alloy wheels, while standard equipment includes integrated fog lights and LED taillights. The M3 is distinguished from the standard 3-series by model-specific bumpers, side skirts, front fender vents, an aluminum “power dome” hood, M-design mirrors, and a rear valence with four stainless-steel exhaust tips. The CARFAX report lists damage to the rear of the car taking place in August of 2013 and the seller reports some stone chips on the front end, as well as minor wheel curb rash, and discolored side mirror glass. Detailed images are provided in the gallery.

Inside, this M3 features black leather upholstery and is equipped with the optional cold weather package, which adds heated seats. Additional options include power-adjustable seats with lumbar support, a navigation system, a Harmon Kardon Sound System, and aluminum interior trim. Model-specific details include a leather-wrapped multifunction steering wheel with M stitching, unique M instrumentation with warm-up lights, and M3-branded floor mats and door sill guards. The seller reports all gauges and electronics to be working as intended.

Powered by a 3.2-liter S54 inline-six engine, the E46 M3 sends up to 333 HP and 269 lb.-ft. of torque to its rear wheels by way of a 6-speed SMG II automated manual transmission and a speed-sensing M Variable multi-clutch differential. The S54 employs motorsport-derived details that include individual throttle bodies, quasi-dry sump lubrication, a light alloy twin-cam head, and Double VANOS variable valve timing. The second-generation SMG gearbox uses an electro-hydraulically actuated clutch and offers shifting capabilities via either the gear lever or the paddles mounted on the steering wheel. Standard performance features include BMW Motorsport-derived stiffer springs and dampers, thicker anti-roll bars, heavy-duty shock mounting points, and steel ball joints instead of rubber. The seller reports the car to be up to date on all maintenance, with a full service being completed by The Werk Shop in December of 2023 that included inspection, new tires, new battery, oil change, and brake fluid service.

This sale will include the owner’s manuals, a window sticker, a toolkit, an air pump, a car cover, and a clean title.

The seller would like you to know: “This car was specially ordered for my wife and was her daily driver for one year and nine months until our daughter was born. It has been a secondary car for the 16 years since. It is in extremely good condition and will be a lot of car for the money for the winning bidder.”

    The bill from the repair work has been added. The work was done at a very high level with everything replaced with all new OEM parts. Ten years+ after, there is zero evidence of anything ever happening.

    Can you probably a copy of the repair work from the collision?

    @tonymeyer I've had several of these E46's. I've loved ever one of them. Yes I agree, the black/blue is stunning!

    One other interesting tidbit of note. If you look at the EPA section in the bottom right of the window sticker, it notes the annual estimated fuel cost to be $2002. Coincidence?

    Yes, there is a small dent. It is very subtle in real life, and not very noticeable, but wanted to highlight it in the pictures. I had discovered it when washing one of the first times once we had it. It lived in the right hand side of our garage at the time, and my E36 M3 was on the left. There really wasn't anything else in the garage, so could not have been a case of something falling on it. And there weren't any paint implications from something making an impact. My best guess is that it was something that happened in transit, was there when delivered, and I just did not catch it. I had the car shipped from the purchasing dealer, so it wasn't a standard delivery/inspection and I am guessing I just missed it. By the time I discovered it, it was too late to go back to the dealer about it. So you can call it original!

    The Carbon Black Metallic paint is fantastic. My wife's only stipulation was that she wanted a black car. With the name being carbon black, I figured that was safe enough and a better option than standard jet black. At some point after we had the car, she said to me, I think that car is blue, not black. My response was that the name of the color was carbon black , so it was black. Later on when test driving a replacement to the replacement for this, the salesman commented about carbon black actually being blue, so it has been a running joke. But it really depends on the light. It can look totally black. Or in other lights, it is a brilliant dark blue metallic. Combine that with the lines of the car, and it is a beautiful combination.

    @lucianod
    In a nutshell, it had been sitting under cover in a storage garage. We were living within the city in Chicago, and I had an office about 30 miles out in the northwest suburbs. I kept the car in a storage garage by the office and would occasionally switch with my SUV when it made sense. At one point the lease on the office was up, I was realigning office space, and did not renew it. It was towards the end of year, so my plan was to move the car to a storage facility in the city in the spring. One thing led to another, life and other priorities got in the way, and it ended up never moving from the garage until this past December. The car went to the Werk Shop at that point for a full inspection and address any needs. The car has been great since, but still too much else going on.

    What's happened to the car from 2019 to the present?
