Now available for auction is this 2006 BMW E46 M3 Coupe finished in Carbon Black Metallic over a black leather interior. Representing the third generation of BMWs high-performance 3-Series model, the E46 remains one of the most celebrated M3s of all time. This final-year example was ordered with the Competition Package (ZCP), an option that equips cross-drilled brake rotors derived from the European-market M3 CSL, 19-inch forged alloy wheels, a specially tuned suspension, and Alcantara suede trim. Said to have been under the previous ownership of BMW dealership employees and active BMWCCA members, this E46 M3 is now being offered for auction by its seller out of New York while showing approximately 117k miles on the odometer.

This Carbon Black Metallic (416) M3 can be differentiated from a standard E46 Coupe by its wider fender flares, side air vents, revised front bumper, mirrors, rear valence, and M-Power quad-tip exhaust. The car is said to have been recently treated to a full exterior detail and paint correction. The seller notes some road-going wear on the front bumper and fenders, as well scratches on the rear passenger side of the roof, and on the rear passenger quarter panel. The CARFAX report shows minor damage to the rear of the car in 2011, and another minor incident at the right front-end in 2016. Detailed images are available in the gallery along with the full CARFAX report.  This M3 wears its original Competition Package 19” forged BMW Style 127 wheels, which come dressed in newer Firestone Firehawk Indy 500 tires installed within the last 2k miles.

The cabin is upholstered in black Nappa leather and features deeply bolstered 14-way powered M-Sport seats with matching door panels and carpeting. Competition Package exclusive Milled-Effect Aluminum trim lines the dashboard, center console, and door panels. The Competition Package also provides a thickened Alcantara-wrapped multi-function M-Sport steering wheel along with a matching handbrake lever and headliner. The seller notes some wear to the driver’s seat and confirms all gauges and accessories to be working properly. Standard features include a glass sunroof, pop-out quarter windows, and a Harmon Kardon hi-fi sound system. The seller has replaced the original MK4 radio with a touchscreen Dynavin N7 Pro head unit featuring Bluetooth and Apple CarPlay capabilities.

Power comes from the venerable 3.2L S54 inline-six, which makes up to 333 HP and 269 lb.-ft of torque. The S54 utilizes motorsport-derived technology including individual throttle bodies, quasi-dry sump lubrication, and double VANOS variable valve timing. Power is delivered to the rear wheels through a 6-speed manual transmission and a limited-slip differential.  The E46 M3 is capable of accelerating from 0-60 MPH in approximately 5 seconds while reaching an electronically governed top speed of 155 MPH. The Competition Package equips larger two-piece cross-drilled rotors, a reduced steering ratio, and an M Track Mode that raises the threshold in which the Dynamic Stability Control will intervene. CARFAX shows consistent maintenance carried out at various BMW dealerships. The seller has recently replaced all filters and fluids, installed new Bilstein shocks and H&R lowering springs, fitted new tires, and replaced the bushings in the shifter assembly. The seller reports the subframe to be structurally sound and states there are no VANOS faults or rod-bearing issues at this time.

This sale will include an original toolkit, tire patch kit, and a clean title.  A steadily appreciating European sports car, this final-year Competition Package M3 presents a great opportunity to own a future BMW classic.

    @MoGe thank you for your question, in regards to Rust there is none. Apart from spending many years in California I'm advised the vehicle was always garaged and never driven in inclement weather by the previous owner. I believe from the vehicle history that he owned it approx 8 years and visual inspection coincides.

    As far as the damages reported on the Carfax, unfortunately I do not have photos or further information in regards.

    Does the vehicle have any rust and do you have information/pictures of the damages that CARFAX shows?

    Unfortunately that is a severe misunderstanding about e46 m3s. All s54s need the rod bearings replaced every 100k miles. The later year cars only received different rod bolts which didn't solve the problem.

  • Carmeticmobile (seller) 2 years, 7 monthsago

    @Jdubbsvt85 your request is right in-line with my intentions to place the car on a lift ( this Monday or Tuesday ) for photos of the undercarriage.
    I will update the listing accordingly.

    @Jdubbsvt85 Hi @Jdubbsvt85 ,
    Thank you for your interest in the vehicle. The connecting rod bearings installed in the E46 M3 cars made from 2001 to 2003 were vulnerable to overheating and subsequent premature failure. These early model e46 M3's also suffered from failures within the vanos system, which were issues resolved by the 2005 year model and on. While no later model e46 M3 can claim complete immunity to these issues, they haven't been an issue during my ownership.

    Once in my possession I had the rear end examined, with tidy results . As well, the transmission was serviced with fresh fluid, shifter linkage and clutch inspected and found to coincide with the previous owners oral record of prior service done.

    Can you get some undercarriage pictures?

  • Jdubbsvt85 (registered bidder) 2 years, 7 monthsago

    Has the rod bearings, subframe, or vanos been addressed?
