Up for auction is this 2006 Porsche 997 Carrera 4S Cabriolet finished in Black over a black full leather interior.  This 4S features exclusive aluminum trim, the Sport Exhaust System, Sport Chrono Package Plus, and a 6-speed manual transmission sending power to all four wheels.  Sold new in Pennsylvania at an original sticker price over $124k, this 997 now resides in Texas where it is being offered for auction showing approximately 36k miles on the odometer.

This 997 comes finished in Black with a matching convertible top and black painted 19” Carrera S wheels complemented by factory exclusive 5mm spacers and colored Porsche center crests.  The car rides on a set of Hankook Ventus V12 Evo2 tires dated from 2020. The seller states the hood and front bumper have been replaced with new OEM parts for cosmetic purposes, and CARFAX shows minor front-end damage to have occurred in 2021. Additional images are provided in the gallery along with the full CARFAX report.

The black full leather interior is accented by exclusive aluminum-look trim covering the Adaptive Sport Seat backrests, door finishers, gear shifter, switch panel, and rear center console.  Other exclusive options include an aluminum footrest pedal, silver seatbelts, Porsche crested headrests, metal door sills with model insignias, a leather PCM handset, and leather sun visors.  A complete list of factory specifications can be found in the gallery.

The naturally aspirated 3.8L flat-six engine is paired with a 6-speed manual transmission delivering as much as 355 HP and 295 lb.-ft of torque to all four wheels.  The 4S comes standard with Porsche Active Suspension Management (PASM) and this example features the optional Sport Exhaust System and Sport Chrono Package Plus for improved sound and performance.  The last full service and maintenance inspection was completed recently in 2021 and the CARFAX report shows 8 additional service records dating back to the original pre-delivery inspection.

This sale will include a set of two keys and a clean title (lien). Well optioned and with low mileage, this 6-speed Carrera 4S may very well be the 997 Cabriolet you've been waiting for.

    @MAPC Good morning,
    When I purchased the car their were scrapes underneath the bumper, I did not like that. The hood had chips but what prompted me to replace the hood was I drove off with the hood not securely locked and it flew up and so it broke the hinges on each side an created a bend on each side of the front of the hood. At that point I decided to replace the hood and get the scrapes addressed.

  • MAPC (registered bidder) 2 years, 3 monthsago

    @rob66 What caused the need to replace the hood and bumper?

    This car has a 4/06 production date and undoubtedly has a M97 engine with the more robust larger IMS bearing. It is only replaced when doing a full motor rebuild and cannot be prophylactically upgraded.

    @MAPC Good afternoon sir. I have attached the photos you will find them underneath the car fax. Thank you

    @LARacer the new hood and bumper has a paint clear coat but does not have a protective film.
    There has been no connectivity added to allow music to be played from phone (e.g. usb or bluetooth)? It is all stock original!

  • LARacer (registered bidder) 2 years, 3 monthsago

    Is there protective film on the new bumper/hood?

    Has there been any connectivity added to allow music to be played from phone (e.g. usb or bluetooth)?

    Thanks.

    @rob66 the M96 engines in the 911 (non-turbo) and boxsters from 2005-2008 were fitted with inferior IMS bearings that failed catastrophically. I called it a non- issue at the time - my late 2005 Carrera S had only 26k miles on it then - until the engine failed due to IMS. It cost me $14k to rebuild. A proactive IMS replacement would have cost ~$3k in 2016. Your car is gorgeous and I wish the best for your sale but it is only fair to me that prospective bidders know and can account for this factor in their bid preparation.

  • rob66 (seller) 2 years, 3 monthsago

    @Supakev Good morning!
    To answer your question IMS was redesigned in March 2005 builds and later. Late 2005 and up builds are considered a non issue.

    I too am a 997 owner—- 2005 Carrera S Cab and have asked many experts and researched the issue of preventative IMS bearing replacement. Although IMS bearing failures do occur, these events are very infrequent. Many if not most would agree that the failure rate is so low that the expense of preventive replacement is not justified on a statistical basis. Of course if your IMS bearing fails it is a huge deal but the odds are very much in your favor that it won’t happen.

  • Supakev (registered bidder) 2 years, 3 monthsago

    Has the IMS bearing been replaced on this vehicle's engine? This is a real issue and unfortunately I have experienced a total engine failure because of it.

  • rob66 (seller) 2 years, 3 monthsago

    Let me get them from the body shop. Just to be clear it was No accident. It was cosmetics only. Stand by !

  • MAPC (registered bidder) 2 years, 3 monthsago

    Good Morning- can you share some pics that show the front end damage from 2021?
    Thank you
