Available for auction is this 2006 Porsche 997 Carrera 4S Cabriolet finished in Atlas Grey Metallic with a Matte Grey Wrap over a Black Leather interior. The 997 generation continues to gain popularity thanks to its blend of naturally aspirated flat-six power, engaging driving experience, and modern levels of comfort and usability. This 2006 example was acquired by the seller approximately two years ago, and was subsequently treated to over $12k in preventive service and repairs under their care. It comes factory equipped with the Sport Chrono Package Plus, the Bose High End Sound Package, the Power Seat Package, and more. This 997 now resides in California where it is being offered for auction showing approximately 80k miles on the odometer.

Four-wheel drive 997 models feature slightly widened bodywork when compared to two wheel drive models. This example is finished in Atlas Grey Metallic which is covered by a removable matte grey vinyl film. The power retractable cabriolet roof received new hydraulics earlier this year, and the black fabric shows signs of wear. A collection of detailed images can be found in the gallery. It rides on a set of 19” Sport Design wheels in black, which come dressed in a set of Michelin Pilot Sport tires bearing date codes from 2016. The CARFAX indicates damage to have occurred to the front end in 2011, however no additional information regarding this incident is available at this time.

The cabin is trimmed with black leather, with matching carpets. Amenities include Self Dimming Mirrors, Heated front seats, the Power Seat package, the Bose High End Sound package, and a Sport Shifter. An upgraded touch screen Pioneer head unit has been installed and adds AppleCarplay and Android Auto functionality. The seller notes that the cabin shows some scuffs and scrapes throughout, and confirms that all gauges, electronics and accessories are functional.

Power comes from a naturally aspirated 3.8 L flat-six engine that sends 355 HP 295 lb.-ft of torque to all four wheels by way of a desirable 6-speed manual transmission. The 4S comes standard with Porsche Active Suspension Management as well as the fixed 4-piston brakes of the 911 Turbo. The CARFAX report includes 22 service records dating as far back as 2006, and under current ownership the car has received annual oil and filter services, a new coolant reservoir, battery, engine mounts, transmission mount stops, spark plugs, ignition coils, brake booster vacuum line, alternator pulley, and flushes of the transmission, clutch, brake and differential fluids.

This sale will include a clean title. For those in search of a relatively affordable gateway into modern Porsche ownership, this 997 4S is not to be missed.

@jmbarba76 I bought the car 2+ years ago after really inspecting it physically myself and feeling confident it was not a significant accident. After having my local Porsche specialist go at it I felt doubly so.

I do not know much more about its history prior to my purchase, beyond what you can see in the CarFax. That said when I bought it I was very concerned to start, as I said, but decided it was worth taking the risk. From my perspective it was a great decision. I always thought wanted a 911 Cab and this car proved I was wrong, I didn't want one I need one. :-)

While I ended up putting a bit more money into the car in terms of addressing appropriate wear and tear/usage, I still feel I made a great decision. As I noted in another reply I am selling it because 1. I need to buy a car for my teenage daughter and 2. I have a reservation for a new 911 which hopefully gets allocated in the new year.

  • wjduenow (seller) 1 year, 8 monthsago

@stupendous In terms of accidents I have found no related issues.

In terms of the top, you can see some light discoloration from when it folds. I have had no issues with leaks and there are no tears. The top had been experiencing issues with going up and down (hydraulics) however I had those replaced at the start of summer and now it is back to great working condition.

From my perspectives there are no gotchas with this car, I spent a good amount of money getting it into solid working shape, addressing a good amount of preventative maintenance. I am selling it because 1. I need to buy a car for my teenage daughter and 2. I have a reservation for a new 911 which hopefully gets allocated in the new year. When I bought the car I was reticent to push it, which is why I invested so much into baselining the car and getting it into a place where I felt it could really be driven. It is now in that state, it is a pleasure to drive and I have pretty mixed feelings about letting it go after putting so much into it.

Was this car in one or two accidents? There was one in 2011 and possibly another after 6/26/12 where it states "damage report"? Any info on that?

I know the description says there is no information on the carfax incident. Is there anything have found out? Regarding the top, it says it is fading? Any leaks or tears? Any photos of service records?

  • wjduenow (seller) 1 year, 8 monthsago

@kkarson Not that I am aware, I will ask my mechanic at the RennShop of Mountain View, to be honest I basically just defer to what he tells me to do. Including the previous IMS question.

  • kkarson (registered bidder) 1 year, 8 monthsago

Have you done a PPI and/or bore scope inspection yet?

  • wjduenow (seller) 1 year, 8 monthsago

@stupendous It has not. I asked the Porsche specialist I have been working with and his advice was"

"As far as the IMS bearing goes, there is not really anything I would recommend doing for your model year other than changing the oil yearly or every 5K miles whichever comes first using a proper quality oil."

  • stupendous (registered bidder) 1 year, 8 monthsago

Would you know if the IMS has been replaced?

  • baldkingpin 1 year, 8 monthsago

Montebello! Ride that on my bike regularly. Need to take my Porsche up there. Perfect stretch of road for a driving vid.

@Tw9886 I have not seen fully under the wrap, it was there when I bought the vehicle.

The are two cutouts over the rear wheel wells (the are visible in the pictures) that I had rewrapped (the right side had been scuffed) and I was able to see under the wrap when they removed it to re-wrap and the paint was like new.

However that was only under those sections, I can't speak to other sections.

Looking at the wrap in general for any questionable patterns or sections under the wrap (which is what I did before buying the car because I had the same question) there are no signs of possible distress.

The wrap is really eye catching and expensive, ultimately I had to make a decision to buy it without being 100% certain unless I wanted to remove the wrap and have it wrapped again for ~$5k, I opted to stick with it as it was.

Not a day goes by when I drive it that I don't get a positive comment on the wrap, I know I made the right choice.

  • Tw9886 (registered bidder) 1 year, 8 monthsago

What condition is the paint in underneath the wrap?
