This 2006 Porsche 997 Carrera Cabriolet has been custom wrapped in blue 3M vinyl and fitted with a Porsche OEM hardtop. It was generously optioned from the factory with a Sand Beige full leather interior, supple leather seats, front seat heating, the power Seat Package, Sport Chrono Package Plus, Bose High-End Sound Package, and Bi-Xenon Headlamp Package. Since being acquired by its seller in 2016, this example has received a host of modifications including a VF Engineering supercharger kit as well as a GT3 throttle body, IPD plenum, Ohlins coilovers, Tarett swaybars, OZ wheels, and more. It is now being offered for auction at no reserve while showing approximately 102k miles on the odometer.

This example was factory finished in Black and has since been wrapped in blue and carbon fiber pattern 3M vinyl by the professionals at Atlantic Wraps of North Carolina in 2021 and fitted with a Porsche OEM hardtop. The seller adds that the finish was reconditioned and treated with two layers of ceramic coating prior to the wrap. Modifications include a Jaquemond custom fiberglass rear wing with integrated air intakes, Fabspeed carbon fiber quad exhaust tips, and OZ Racing wheels dressed in Michelin Pilot Sport 4S tires from 2020. A lowered stance is achieved with Ohlins coilovers, and a red tow hook has been added to the front. The seller adds that the front right fog light needs a new bulb. Details images are provided in the gallery along with a CARFAX report showing damage to the right rear bumper in March 2011.

The cabin is appointed with Sand Beige full leather upholstery and features optional heated power seats in supple leather. Additional options include the Bose High-End Sound Package and the Sport Chrono Package Plus, which adds a stopwatch dial atop the dashboard. Modifications consist of a Kenwood head unit, aftermarket sport pedals, a magnetic phone holder, and aftermarket custom floor mats. The seller notes that the sun visor was replaced, LED interior lighting has been fitted, and a radar detector has been added. The leather is said to have been reconditioned and a hand within the stopwatch dial is missing. Some signs of wear are depicted in the gallery.

This 997 equips a 3.6-liter flat-six engine, sending 355 HP and 295 lb.-ft of torque stock to the rear wheels through a 5-Speed Tiptronic S shiftable automatic transmission. A host of modifications have been equipped including a VF Engineering supercharger kit with a Vortech V3 Sci-Trim supercharger, an air-water charge cooler system, a polypropylene water reservoir, OEM high-density water radiator, a Hi-Flow water pump, Bosch bypass valve, a hard anodized 6061-T6 aluminum bracket, OEM serpentine belt, K&N induction filter with airbox, and an ECU tune. Other modifications include a GT3 throttle body with an IPD plenum, an intake “Gundo” modification, a Remus throttle responder, Tarett Engineering swaybars, and Hawk brake pads. With these modifications, the seller states a Dyno report shows approximately 430 HP and just under 400 lb.-ft of torque. A CARFAX report showing a total of 40 service history entries is shown in the gallery.

This sale will include a clean title, owner's manuals, and a HEX Flash ECU tuning programming cable.

The seller would like you to know: “This car is meant to be driven. I absolutely loved this car. It was my dream to have a 911 since I built a blue Turbo plastic model years ago. I was able to feel "that fizzy feeling" James May talks about on Top Gear. It feels like you become a part of the car when you hit 3000rpm... the hair stands up on the back of your neck. I was able to play with this car and make it my own. I encourage you to do the same. Porsches can be driven AND polished”

This is a wonderful looking car. If there are no IMS problems, this will be a fabulous purchase.

@traumajd Pretty good. The ohlins stiffened it but I wouldn't say it's race car uncomfortable. They have the ability to be adjusted as well for a softer ride.

How’s the ride? Good as an everyday car?

  • MarkLassiter (seller) 10 monthsago

@Clubracer6 Yes, the only oem parts removed were the original radio/ satnav and wheels. The mods are bolt on and the hard top comes with the sale. I may be able to access the lobster claw wheels but no guarantee. I sold the radio and replaced it with a double din.

  • Clubracer6 (registered bidder) 10 monthsago

  • hughespt (registered bidder) 10 monthsago

Does the car have a lien?

  • MarkLassiter (seller) 10 monthsago

Regarding the hardtop and wing bolt ons: mechanics says "No animals were harmed in the making of this car." The mods were non-dstructive and reversible.

  • MarkLassiter (seller) 10 monthsago

@KayaknFly I had her for 5 years and tracked her 6 or 7 times, beginner level. Not a fast driver! HPDE no racing, no wrecks on the track save a spin out on turn 14 at CMP. Not sure about transmission service. I never got Draggy to track my 0-60.

  • MarkLassiter (seller) 10 monthsago

@KayaknFly spoke to my mechanic... they use a magnet to check for filings. No indications of bearing problems. Obviously that is a conservative determination but one of the only options short of a tear down.. Selling her for cash to design a new home.

  • KayaknFly (registered bidder) 10 monthsago

Also any oil analysis or filter cut open to check for metals?

    Why are you selling?

  • KayaknFly (registered bidder) 10 monthsago

How much track time did you use it for?

    Also I see it has a draggy… what’s your 0-60 times etc?

    Any transmission service history?

    Thank you.

  • MarkLassiter (seller) 10 monthsago

@MarkLassiter The owner, Dan, at Touring Car, Inc is checking with primary mechanic regarding the retractable spoiler. As soon as he gets back to me I will post regarding any info he has. Note: my goal was to keep this as a hardtop knowing that it could be returned to it's convertible phase. I will be taking her back for a final once-over prior to shipping for routine service at my expense.

  • MarkLassiter (seller) 10 monthsago

@bierdad I will ask my mechanic about the engine cover. The automatic spoiler was still functional as of 2022 prior to hardtop and wing installation. Stay tuned on engine cover...

  • bierdad (registered bidder) 10 monthsago

@MarkLassiter thanks for the additional information regarding the convertible top operation. Is the original engine cover/operable spoiler included?

  • MarkLassiter (seller) 10 monthsago

FYI, the wing did not require any permanent modification to the body or other original components. Instead, the designer used existing frame features to attach it.

  • MarkLassiter (seller) 10 monthsago

The convertible top was functional with no leaks the last time it was used in 2022. The wing and hardtop must be removed to make it functional. Both the wing and top are bolt on and relatively easy to remove.

  • tgas (registered bidder) 10 monthsago

Does the convertible top function correctly? No leaks in the top or other issues?

  • AtLast (registered bidder) 10 monthsago

When an IMS fails, there's no small percentage of failure. There are too many armchair experts on the internet.

  • MarkLassiter (seller) 10 monthsago

    @merlin12 Thank you!

  • merlin12 (registered bidder) 10 monthsago

    beautiful car

  • 211Broadway (registered bidder) 10 months, 1 weekago

The car likely has the larger "unserviceable" IMS bearing which is not a bad thing b/s the failure rate on the larger bearing is extremely low. And of course the "unserviceable" bearing is serviceable but requires opening the engine case (labor, labor). LOTS of parnoia (and bad info on the internet) with regard to the IMS bearing.
Just my 2 cents worth. However, I agree with Seller: have it checked for peace of mind.

  • MarkLassiter (seller) 10 months, 1 weekago

@AtLast I don't know if the IMS bearing was replaced prior to me taking deliver of the car at around 65k miles. I have not replaced it nor had any diagnostics done regarding it. I have never had the cylinders checked for bore scoring. The car has had regular maintenance and never had oil leaks or unusual sounds. I would recommend anyone who takes ownership have a Porsche mechanic evaluate it for peace of mind.

  • AtLast (registered bidder) 10 months, 1 weekago

What is the situation with the IMS bearing? Have the cylinders been checked for bore scoring?

    Hi all,

I will try to answer questions to the best of my knowledge. Not a Porsche expert at all but have taken her to one since I have had her. The mods are all top-of-the-line. Best of luck with the bidding!
