Now available for auction out of New York is this 2006 Porsche 997 Carrera S Cabriolet finished in Arctic Silver Metallic over a Cocoa natural leather interior.  As the last 911 generation with hydraulic power steering, the 997 is favored by many Porsche enthusiasts for its tactile driving characteristics and mechanical feel.  This two-owner example features a desirable 6-speed manual transmission, Sport Chrono Package Plus, and the Bose High-End Sound Package.  Previously listed and sold on PCARMARKET, this 997 is now being offered once more as the initial transaction could not be completed within the specified timeframe.

The Arctic Silver Metallic finish is stated to be in great overall condition with only minor road-going wear.  The front and rear bumper covers are also said to have been refinished to maintain excellent cosmetic standards (detailed images are provided in the photo gallery).  This example highlights a brown power-operated cabriolet top and factory Carrera S II wheels with optional colored center crests.  New Kumho Ecsta tires were mounted in August of 2020.

Inside, you will find a Cocoa natural leather interior that is stated to be in excellent condition.  Some worn buttons are said to have been previously replaced along with the shifter console trim. All gauges and electrical components are reported to be fully functional. With an MSRP of nearly $103k, factory options include the Sport Chrono Package Plus, Bose High-End Sound Package, power-operated and heated front seats, metal door sill model insignias, an aluminum-look instrument surround, aluminum footrest, and black floor mats with Porsche lettering. Modifications include a factory-fit XM radio receiver as well as a Dension head unit with Bluetooth and USB compatibility.

Power comes from a naturally aspirated 3.8 L flat-six engine capable of producing 355 HP and 295 lb.-ft of torque.  The rear wheels are driven through a desirable 6-speed manual transmission which allows this Cabriolet to accelerate from 0-60 MPH in approximately 4.5 seconds. With new front and rear brake pads, front rotors, and recent oil, filters, and gearbox fluid changes performed, this 997 is said to be in excellent running order.  A tremendous amount of paperwork will be included showing consistent upkeep throughout the lifetime of the vehicle.

Included in the sale of this 997 are original books and a clean title.  If you are in search of a tastefully appointed 6-speed 997, this two-owner Cabriolet is certainly worth consideration

@ReallySerious1 Question: Does the car have the factory stock exhaust system with original cats, in a reasonably un-rusted condition?

Answer: Yes, all factory and all original in reasonable un-rusted condition. No modifications whatsoever.

@Taterpyrat Question: Can you update with condition of front struts, shocks and brakes? What about the clutch and transmission, any history of problems or issues? No warning lights or other electronic problems on a readout?

Answer: Front struts & shocks are fine. Have not noticed any issue with them. Front rotors and pads were changed about 1500 miles again. Read pads were changed around 3,000 miles ago. Clutch changed about 3500 miles ago. No knows problems or issues other than regular maintenance and standard wear. No warning lights or electronic problems.

@Rarsenault Question: Any cold start video possible? Also any engine sounds that shouldn’t be there? Knocking of any kind? There does seem to be quite the dirty tailpipes. Looks very sooty.

Answer: I will try to get a cold-start video within the next couple of days. No engine sounds at all and not knocking at all. The tailpipes are not dirty at all with no abnormal soot. I just checked my original photos and it looks like that is a reflection, not soot. I almost just checked the car and that soot is not there.

@steveb109 The best I can do with shipping is making myself available in person for when the car is scheduled to be picked up. Other than that, I have never shipped a car before so everything would need to be arranged by the buyer.

  • steveb109 3 years, 2 monthsago

Hello- I'm a Canadian and would need to have the vehicle shipped to Canada. Trying to confirm shipping across border during pandemic. If I am successful bidder, are you able to help me arrange shipping?
Look forward to your reply, thank you.

@alan111 thanks for the response, I too would appreciate photos of the underside of the car front and back. Also there are only two wheels shown in the gallery could you add photos of the other two rims? If you could post links of the previous videos including the top operation too? And agree that a cold start video in the garage would be nice, find a neighbor kid to dig a path to the garage door!

    @Mercyhealth Questions:
What was the date, and if you can say, what site was your car previously auctioned on?
If we could refer to that auction it may prevent repetitive questions.

Could you provide a cold start up video which includes instrument cluster and tail pipe views at start up? Along with a prolonged engine running video.

Can you provide cabriolet opening and closing video?

Do you have any undercarriage photos of the engine, transmission, and suspension detail?

Can we assume that “recommended maintenance performed” reported in the CARFAX included oil changes? The only place shown or documented was in 2020 an oil change had occurred.

    Answers:
    1) The auction was last month on this site. The previous buyer could not close the deal. That is the only reason it is being relisted.

    2) It's a bit difficult to provide videos now because the car is my garage and there is still lots of snow outside and in my driveway here in NY. For the videos to be effective, I would have to pull the car and right now, it's really bad outside. I would have to wait a few days for the snow to clear so I can take it out. I do, however, have some acceleration videos from last month if you'd like me to email it to you.

    3) Oil and maintenance was performed annually. There is a lot of maintenance that is not shown on the Carfax. The following is a brief list of the maintenance that was done under my 5 year ownership. All of the big ticket maintenance items were done by Bodymotion in Ocean, NJ and they know me and my car well.
Battery, tires, gearbox fluid, rotors, pads, wipers, clutch, water pump, interior trim pieces, drive belt, motor mounts, brake fluid, air filter, hood struts, coil packs, spark plugs.

No expense was spared and all of the maintenance was done proactively. All of the records re in a neat folder, in chronologic order and will be included with the sale.

@SBerastequi Question: Is the front license bracket attached to the air intake grill or to the bumper?

Answer: No, it is attached to the tow hook mount and has already been removed since taking these photos. The tow hook cover has been replaced.

@alan111 thank you for bringing this car for us apparently again. Beautiful 997 with very desirable interior spec and low miles. I have a few questions and requests.

What was the date, and if you can say, what site was your car previously auctioned on?

Finally thank you for trying to put the IMS question to bed early. And I agree not an issue in this model. You can’t change or mitigate IMS issues like you can in the 996. You can inspect it at clutch change, as you stated, but replacement requires splitting the case. Which is a whole other issue.

    Good Luck!

@bpurpura Question: Anything to share about the IMS?

Answer: The IMS is a non-issue on '06-'08 models. Porsche changed the IMS design with late '05 models and there are almost no documented failures. The clutch was replaced about 4,000 miles ago at which time the IMS was also inspected. There was absolutely no issue with it.

    @MSQ QUESTIONS:
    nice look car.
On pics #21 and #23 the stone guard on the passenger side looks like its yellowing, yet the driver side one looks fine.
Is the passenger side one yellowing or is that the lighting?
Also, is the roof black or brown? (the car is listed with option code V5 Brown Top, but pics make it look black, but I suspect that is just the lighting).
Lastly, do you have the plug for the tow hook cover (that is currently being used from front license plate)?

These are really great cars. Good luck with the auction.

    ANSWERS:
    1) Both stone guards are weathered but are not cracked and still in good condition. Replacement is up to the new buyer, but I would leave them as-is.

    2) The roof is brown to match the brown interior.

    3) Yes, I have the tow hook cover plug and it will be provided to the new owner.
