Up for auction is this 2006 Porsche 997 Carrera finished in Seal Grey Metallic over a Black leather interior.  The 997 is favored by many Porsche enthusiasts for its tactile driving characteristics and mechanical feel. This 2006 example features a desirable 6-speed manual transmission, the Sport Chrono Package Plus, a Sport Steering Wheel, and the Bose High End Sound Package.  Having received a new gearbox under warranty in the last 10k miles as well as a major 60k mile service in 2016, this 997 is now being offered for auction by its owner out of California while showing approximately 63k miles on the odometer.

The Seal Grey Metallic finish is stated to be in excellent condition and the car is said to have always been garage kept under its current ownership (detailed images are provided in the photo gallery).  The underside trim of the front bumper shows a few scrapes, although a new replacement piece will be included in the sale.  CARFAX indicates damage during the current ownership which has been contested as an error.  This 997 rides on factory 18” Carrera wheels dressed in Michelin Pilot Super Sport tires.

Inside, you will find a black standard leather interior with power seats and an optional Sport steering wheel. Other factory features include Sport Chrono Package Plus, the Bose High-End Sound Package, Park Assist, heated front seats, and the Bi-Xenon Headlamp Package.  The climate control buttons show typical wear and the ignition switch trim has some scratches, although a new replacement trim piece will be included in the sale.  The cabin is said to be in very good condition with all gauges and accessories remaining fully functional.  An aftermarket Bluetooth receiver system was installed by a previous owner.

This first-generation 997 Carrera is equipped with a 3.6 L flat-six engine that sends 325 HP and 273 lb.-ft of torque to the rear wheels through a desirable 6-speed manual transmission.  The gearbox is said to have been completely replaced by a Porsche dealer under warranty within the last 10k miles following a complaint issued by a previous owner.  In 2016, the current owner had a major 60k mile service done by Kahler's German Auto Repair that included a brake fluid flush, new ignition coils, spark plugs, hood shocks, oil, and filters.  Another oil change was carried out recently in 2021 and this 997 is said to be in fantastic driving condition for its next owner.

This sale will include a set of 2 keys, owner’s manuals, service records, and a clean title. Also included is replacement trim for the front bumper undertray and ignition surround as well as genuine Porsche leather conditioner, a sunshade, and a Porsche child seat. Do not miss out on this fantastic opportunity to get behind the wheel a 6-speed Porsche 997.

I'm new to this site, but this looks like a ridiculously low price for this car. I realize the auction isn't over yet. I bought a 997 very much like this one in Nov. and am concerned I way overpaid! This car is worth way more that 31k!

@YAFFAN You can’t replace the bearing on this year 911/987/986. The only way you can replace is a complete motor tear down. 05 1/2-09 this is the case... 99-05.5 you can replace it

@outkan The IMS is not replaced. Since this is a 2006 model, with the slightly revised and larger IMS bearing, I would not expect any bearing failures in the future. With the larger IMS bearing, 2006, 2007, and 2008 models had much much fewer cases of IMS bearing failures. I hope this helps and let me know if you have any other questions.

@TJW24 Yes, a PPI may be performed pre-sale. I will try to video record a walk around video this afternoon if I can manage it. All the best.

YAFFAN: Thanks for the response about the accident. Yes, I have had similar problems with the CarFax people. They refuse to change things once they are recorded.

When can the car be viewed?

  • YAFFAN (seller) 3 years, 2 monthsago

@urfealex Thanks for the question. The accident/damage reported on carfax is an error. I contacted carfax regarding this error and I am still waiting for their response. In fact, I only became aware of this issue when PcarMarket informed me about it while listing the car. It shows that it happened under my ownership, but I have never had any damage or accident. The carfax report does not provide a date for this either. But the report suggests that it took place under my ownership, which makes me hundred percent sure that this is in fact an error. When I was made aware of this issue, I actually decided not to sell the car before resolving it with carfax. But carfax does not even return my inquiries. In their inquiry form, they ask for documents to provide evidence for my claim; how can I provide documentation of something that never happened?

Given this opportunity to address this issue, let me also clarify something else about the carfax report on my 911. I purchased this car on 05/15/2014 and registered it in Arizona on 05/29/2014. When I moved to California; on 06/23/2016, I registered it, but on my California title, my wife's name also appears. I presume carfax reports the addition of her name as "new owner reported". Hence, the car does not actually have 5 previous owners; I am the fourth and current owner of the car. I just moved from Arizona to California in June of 2016; that is all. I reported this error to carfax as well, but again I have not heard from them.

Just to reiterate, since my purchase of the car in May of 2014, I did not have any damage or accident. The damage/accident reported on carfax is an error. The car never had damage or accident.

I hope this helps, and thanks again for the question.

    All the best.

@urfealex Dear @urfealex, thank you for your question. The previous owner, when this car was certified pre-owned, complained to the dealer that the shift to fifth gear was grinding intermittently. He told me that the dealer upon inspecting the issue decided to replace the transmission under warranty. This was done at the same service when they replaced the water pump, at 57,079 miles. I do not know whether they replaced the clutch or not. It is also not stated in the service records. But, at my own services, I asked my mechanic about the clutch each time, and he informed me that the clutch looks new. There are no issues with the IMS. Particularly, since this is a 2006 model, with the slightly revised and larger IMS bearing, I would not expect any bearing failures in the future. With the larger IMS bearing, 2006, 2007, and 2008 models had much much fewer cases of IMS bearing failures. I hope this helps and let me know if you have any other questions. Thanks for the kind words.

  • urfealex (registered bidder) 3 years, 2 monthsago

YAFAN: Why the new gearbox? Was the clutch done at the same time? This looks like a very nice example. Any issues noted with the IMS? Many thanks. Nice representation.
