Up for auction at no-reserve is this 2006 Porsche 997 Carrera S Cabriolet finished in Midnight Blue Metallic over a Brown Natural Leather interior.  Equipped with optional features including the Sport Chrono Package Plus, Bose High-End Sound Package, Park Assist System, and a Tiptronic S automatic transmission, this Carrera S commanded an original sticker price of over $109k.  Having been issued a rebuilt salvage title following what was believed to be water damage, this 997 is said to have been completely repaired and is now being offered for auction at no-reserve by its seller Florida while showing just under 47k miles on the odometer.

The Midnight Blue Metallic finish is reported to be in very good condition aside from one very light scratch noted on the front hood.  The rebuilt salvage status shown on CARFAX is reported to have resulted from a flood with all damage being limited to the electronics and interior, detailed images are provided in the photo gallery.  Factory features include a Metropol Blue cabriolet top, red brake calipers, and 19” Carrera S wheels that are currently dressed in Kumho tires from 2017.

Inside, you will find a premium Brown Natural Leather interior with replacement blue leather seats.  Optional features selected from the factory include the Bose High-End Sound Package, a remote 6-disc CD changer, Navigation for PCM, the Park Assist System, a 3-spoke multifunction steering wheel, and the Sport Chrono Package Plus.  Any damage to the interior and electronics is reported to have been repaired and the cabin is described to be in good condition with only minor signs of wear present.  All gauges and accessories are said to be working properly including the power-operated cabriolet top.

This first-generation 997 Carrera S is equipped with a naturally aspirated 3.8 L flat-six engine that generates 355 HP and 295 lb.-ft of torque.  The rear wheels are driven through a 5-speed Tiptronic S automatic transmission which allows for a 0-60 time of approximately 5 seconds.  The optional Sport Chrono Package Plus also enables the driver to optimize performance characteristics with the press of a button.  All available maintenance history is provided on CARFAX and this 997 is reported to be in great mechanical order.

This sale will include a rebuilt salvage title.  The preferred water-cooled 911 generation for many enthusiasts, this 997 Carrera S offers an exceptional value.

  • VertexAuto (seller) 3 years, 1 monthago

@911newbie Please be clear! Our story has never changed. No one knows what happened. Everyone is speculating based on clues. All we are saying is that the car doesn't have evidence of a salt water flood due to storm surge (Salt Water). As for the rust, what picture do you see that shows rust that is unnatural to a 15 year old car?

  • 911newbie 3 years, 1 monthago

Wow, dealer said flooding may be from roof left open then when a member called out hurricane Sandy and NY connection story appears to change. Also, thanks to member for calling out potential rust issues on some pics.
I’m running away from this one.

  • 901navigator (registered bidder) 3 years, 1 monthago

Looks like every non coated surface has evidence of rust, even the wheel bolts. Residue seen in crevices in the engine bay items also. Mechanically probably sound. The electronics replacements coukd kill the discounted salvage savings but will Always be a branded title.

  • VertexAuto (seller) 3 years, 1 monthago

@palmerd27 Those photos have been posted now. Thanks!

  • VertexAuto (seller) 3 years, 1 monthago

We just submitted additional photos of the underbody. The engine is super dry, with no visible oil leaks whatsoever. All 4 CV boots are in good shape. Rubbers on control arms and drop links look good. Shocks/Struts are not leaking. And the brakes have plenty of pad left.

We also sublimed a start up video that shows the instrument cluster. You can see that the car is free of any warning lights and that the oil pressure responds appropriately to higher RPMS.

@LongwoodCharger I agree that with the assumption of it possibly being a victim of Sandy due to the time and location. However, that doesn't necessarily mean it was a salt water flood. Many areas were flooded during Sandy that had nothing to do with storm surge. The rear seats, door panels, dash, etc are all original and have no signs of ever being wet.

I just posted a few pics of the underbody. No rust at all and all the bushing / rubbers looks great. Thanks!

I am pretty sure this car was a victim of Hurricane Sandy (Nov 2012) if the date of flood damage classification is correct (carfax stating in early 2013 declaration) and location of the car (NY metro). Therefore, it was salt water damage, so unlikely to be "I forgot to close my top and the ECU was damaged".

However, it may have had a trouble free 20k miles afterwards.

    Will be watching closely.

Just an FYI to potential bidders, I’ve had some luck with using badvin to get details on vehicles, especially those that have gone through dealer auctions.

  • VertexAuto (seller) 3 years, 1 monthago

@palmerd27 We don't know the exact story on the flood. When we got the car we changed the front seats, the carpets, alarm box and key fob. From what we can tell it looked more like a roof top left open than an actual flood.

This car has no rust or electrical issues.

  • palmerd27 (registered bidder) 3 years, 1 monthago

Owner: Please expand on the water damage: Fresh water or salt water??
How high was the water, Mama?
Makes a big difference over time as the salt continues to corrode wiring and the body itself.
