This 2006 Porsche 987 Cayman S has been transformed into a purpose-built race car by Reno Rennsport and features an upgraded 3.8-liter engine with CP pistons, Carrillo rods, a Cevelli dry sump kit, custom cams, an LN Engineering IMS bearing, a GT3 throttle body, custom racing headers, and more. The car is also equipped with an integrated full roll cage and a Getty widebody kit as well as lightweight plastic windows, CSF aluminum radiators, a Guard limited-slip differential, OMP racing seats, Girodisc brake rotors, custom Bogart wheels, and adjustable KW suspension. This race-ready Cayman S has seen only one test day at the track and is now being offered for auction by its seller out of Nevada.

This 987 is said to have been acquired at auction after sustaining flood damage and was fully stripped to bare metal at Reno Rennsport where it was fitted with a Getty body kit including wide fender flares and rocker panels, a front splitter, a carbon fiber rear wing, and lightweight hood, roof, rear hatch, and door panels. The exterior has been refinished in its factory Seal Grey Metallic color and includes matching headlight covers, a carbon fiber driver’s side mirror, a Sparco front tow strap, protective radiator grilles, lightweight plastic windows with integrated rear NACA ducts, and a GT3-style air outlet on the front bumper. The rear bumper has also been cut out to accommodate the custom dual exhaust system. The car rides on a set of custom black-painted 18”x10” and 18”x11” Bogart wheels dressed in Hoosier R7 racing slicks, and an additional set of matching wheels is also included with Pirelli racing slicks.

The cabin has been stripped for weight savings and features an integrated full roll cage, custom switches, an AIM digital dash, and a pair of OMP racing seats with Sparco and Schroth safety harnesses. Other equipment includes a Sparco three-spoke steering wheel, a fire extinguisher, and a custom fuse box to power the fuel pump and electrical systems.

The car’s original flat-six engine is said to have been completely rebuilt with custom ported heads and a lightened knife-edge crank as well as custom Schrick camshafts, CP pistons (12.5:1 compression), Carrillo rods, a Cervelli dry-sump kit, an LN Engineering IMS bearing solution, a GT3 throttle body, an IPD plenum, a BMO intake, CSF aluminum radiators, and custom GT racing headers paired with a custom exhaust system. The 6-speed manual transmission has also been rebuilt with new synchros, upgraded Numeric shifter cables, and a new Guard limited-slip differential. The car rides on adjustable 2-way KW shocks and springs paired with full ERP monoball suspension arms and Tarett sway bars and strut mounts. The braking system has also been upgraded with a GT3 master cylinder, stainless steel lines, Girodisc lightweight steel rotors, and Hawk pads. The seller adds that the rev-limiter has been adjusted to 7,200 RPM and the car weighs in at 2,450 lbs. excluding a driver.

This race car is offered with an extra set of wheels, a bill of sale, and a salvage title.

    Thanks for your reply!

  • renorennsport (seller) 9 months, 3 weeksago

@skipmots yes that's correct I left a few of the original scars from the flood damage, which is top of the front dr side fender and dr side a pillar. Kind of felt it should retain some of that character.

  • renorennsport (seller) 9 months, 3 weeksago

@911buzz Yes the tubing is DOM size is 1 3/4" by .095 which will work for tech for PCA club racing and other club series. Dyno work was done on a chassis dyno. I'm running a race fuel with 110 octane. Yes it can definitely be detuned to run 91. Yes it has been on the track for 1 test day to do shake down and setup.

  • Slowturn 9 months, 3 weeksago

Very nice Build. Well documented! GLWS

@seller So the damage in pix 15, 29, 30 And 69 are all from the flooding and not a separate accident to clarify?

  • 911buzz (registered bidder) 9 months, 4 weeksago

Thanks for your reply, Can you confirm cage is DOM tubing as well as diameter and wall thickness? Was the engine dynoed on a stand or in the car? Using 100 or 110 octane fuel? Do you know if motor can be tuned to run 91 in its current configuration?
Has this actually been on track yet?

  • renorennsport (seller) 9 months, 4 weeksago

@911buzz Everything was built in house at our shop so I never made an invoice because it's my car. I do have parts documentation that will come with it. Yes the motor was dyno tuned and verified at track under load. It has an AEM ecu and runs a modified GT3 harness to the engine. It has custom in house wiring and fuse panel we built here. All other original wiring and modules were removed because it was flooded and to save weight. The car weighs 2450 wet no driver and is corner balanced for a 180 pound driver. Engine made about 360 on the dyno I do not have a print out of that. The ecu is tied into the AIM dash.

  • renorennsport (seller) 9 months, 4 weeksago

@plresultsman Yes airbags are out. Most all of the factory wiring and modules are removed.
It would be an extensive project to make street worthy again. Car was never crashed or in an incident. Tub is in great shape.

  • 911buzz (registered bidder) 9 months, 4 weeksago

    Wow looks like fun!
Is there a detailed build sheet for motor?
Did the motor get dyno tuned?
What engine management system are you using?

  • plresultsman (registered bidder) 9 months, 4 weeksago

    1. Are airbags out of car?
    2. How much work to make this streetable, to drive to track?
    3. Was the car ever crashed?
