This 2006 Porsche 987 Cayman S has been transformed into a track car, pairing its 6-speed manual transmission with a 3.6-liter flat-six engine installed by Porsche Motorsports North America. It sports a matte black vinyl wrap with subtle Martini Racing livery, along with a GT3-style front fascia, lightweight Lexan rear windshield, and Crawford carbon fiber rear wing. The stripped interior includes a 10-point chassis-welded Chromoly roll cage, a Recaro Hans driver’s seat, and additional racing safety equipment. As previously listed on PCARMARKET, this high-performance Cayman S is now being offered for auction by its seller out of Georgia.

Factory specified in Arctic Silver Metallic, this Cayman S received a matte black 3M vinyl wrap with a subtle “ghosted” Martini Racing livery in February 2021. Upgrades include a GT3-style front fascia, lightweight Lexan rear windshield, and adjustable Crawford carbon fiber rear wing. It sits on 18” BBS E88 3-piece wheels fitted with Pirelli racing tires. Upon the seller’s acquisition, this example attended three Road Atlanta events. The seller notes front-end wear from towing and track use, along with a minor bump on the rear driver's side. Detailed images and a clean CARFAX report are available in the gallery.

The cabin has been extensively stripped and equipped with racing safety features, including a 10-point chassis-welded Chromoly roll cage, a Recaro Hans driver’s seat, a passenger racing seat, a Sparco 6-point harness, and a fire suppression system. The driver benefits from a quick-release OMP steering wheel, carbon fiber control panel, cool-suit system, and MoTeC CDL3 Club digital dash display with data logging capabilities. All gauges, electronics, and accessories are confirmed to be in proper working order.

This Cayman S was reportedly fitted with a 3.6-liter flat-six engine in 2014 by Porsche Motorsports North America, including the factory X51 Power Kit, GT3 throttle body, performance ECU tune, and packable exhaust. The rear wheels are driven through the original 6-speed manual transmission, enhanced with a Cartonic Motorsports sequential shifter mechanism, performance shift linkage, Aasco Motorsport lightweight flywheel, new Sachs race clutch, and Auto-Blip system. The suspension features MCS 2-way adjustable coilovers, 900/750 spring sets, GT3 lower control arms, GT3 inner joints, an RSR subframe, and reinforcement tie-ins for added rigidity. Additional upgrades include transmission and steering fluid oil coolers, a power steering underdrive pulley, and a Bosch Motorsports M4 ABS system. The seller notes that routine service has been performed by ACI Motorsports.

This sale will include one set of wheels with tires, an additional set of wheels, a car cover, and a bill of sale.

The seller would like you to know: “For any enthusiast looking to get out on the track, this highly competitive Cayman S is ready to be enjoyed for HPDE sessions, PCA events, NASA, IRL, and more.”

I have video from up here at GingerMan when I coached the PO. I thought it was a question worth asking to see if it was refreshed... it was spinning up the inside rear, which I noted to the owner. It was otherwise great and that shifter was a new experience for me! I'd never heard of a sequential shifter conversion for an h-pattern gearbox before that car! Very cool.

@Z3SpdDmn - my guess is it must have? Previous owner was racing it in NASA ST3 last year and was consistent 2nd or 3rd and never broke down. We didn’t experience any issues in Road Atlanta this year either.

I've driven this car and it was a hoot! It was a few years ago and it needed the LSD serviced. I hope that's been done since then.

@Hagarr - I couldn't agree more; these Cayman race cars are absolutely outstanding. I don't have the title (and neither the previous owners) to avoid the tag tax when registering the vehicle. The previous owners stripped away anything non-essential for track performance: air conditioning, heating, side windows, 3 point seatbelt, and more to maximize the power-to-weight ratio. We added the passenger racing seat and harness as we used it in HPDE events and liked to bring guests.

This is a beautiful car. I've always wanted a Cayman racecar, think these are so wonderfully balanced. I am wondering why you do not have a title though.
For my 2003 Spec C5Z racecar I have a title despite the conversion, etc.
I think it would go a long way with buyers.

@fillup91x Hi - The car isn’t street legal, so there’s no need to pay any DMV registration fees—race cars generally don’t come with titles for this reason. Instead, it comes with a Bill of Sale, which is standard for this type of car.

Is there any type of title or way to get a title

    @Henderjb the engine is:
2006–2008 3.6 L (3,596 cc) 325 PS (239 kW; 321 bhp) 370 N?m (270 lbf?ft) water-cooled DOHC 24-valve boxer flat-six (VarioCam Plus) (Carrera/Targa 4). No owner ever reported any issues, and we never experienced a single issue with it since then. Between 2014-2021 it was very lightly used in Sebring. In 2021 it came to Atlanta for a year before going to Illinois and now in 2024 it’s back in Atlanta. Happy bidding!

hi, the 3.6 engine was installed in 2014, was it a new engine or a remanned engine. If it was used, what year engine was it? curious whether to be concerned about possible bore scoring or IMS issues. Thank you.

@HemiSam - thanks for your comment. All the work to transform the car from a street car to a racing car was performed by ACI Motorsport in 2021. Regarding the engine, it was installed in 2014, but hours in the motor is not a metric calculated for these engines (like in Cup cars). That's a metric unfortunately we don't have. The vehicle had around 38-39k miles back then, it hasn't been used that much as it was a dedicated racing car. Since we acquired it earlier this year we've only taken it to a few track weekends.

I'm adding some underside shots, great idea. Thank you.

  • HemiSam (registered bidder) 1 month, 1 weekago

There is no information on what shop(s) performed the work, hours on the motor, underside shots... I suggest you post more information, @seller. Best of luck!
