Up for auction is this 2006 Porsche 987 Cayman S finished in Arctic Silver Metallic over a black standard leather interior. With its nimble mid-engine design, the Cayman offers the perfect platform for a competitive track-going vehicle. Having undergone a custom 3.8L engine build by Vision Motorsports, this 2006 Cayman S has also been upgraded with an AUTO-BLiP system, Quaife limited-slip differential, custom Ceika big brake kit, KW Clubsport coil-overs, GT3 control arms, custom carbon fiber racing seats, and many other performance-oriented modifications. A strong contender that can be driven to and from the track, this street-legal 3.8L Cayman S is now being offered for auction by its seller out of New York while showing just over 39k miles on the odometer.
This 987 is finished in Arctic Silver Metallic and features custom carbon fiber side air intakes, side skirts, and a rear diffuser from Joe Toth Composites. A removable tow hook has been added to the front and signs of track-going wear are noted throughout the exterior. Additional images are provided in the photo gallery along with a damage-free CARFAX report. This Cayman S rides on a set of black 18” OZ Racing wheels dressed in Nitto01 tires that were installed within the last year. The factory 18” 5-spoke wheels will also be included in the sale along with an additional set of matching OZ Racing wheels wrapped in Hoosier track tires.
The black standard leather interior has been fitted with a custom roll bar, aluminum pedal covers, Sparco Evo racing seats, and Sparco safety harnesses. A Suncoast short shift kit has also been installed along with a control module for the AUTO-BLiP system which is mounted to the right of the steering wheel. All factory airbags and creature comforts have been retained including the A/C, radio, and premium Bose Surround Sound System. Some minor signs of wear have been reported and the seller confirms all gauges and accessories to be fully functional. CARFAX shows a potential odometer rollback, although this is deemed to have likely resulted from clerical error.
In 2014 at just over 27k miles, the original 3.4L flat-six engine was rebuilt by Vision Motorsport and upgraded to a 3.8L displacement. Components installed during this time include JE pistons, Chromoly cylinder liners, Carillo rods, ARP bolts, a GT3 oil cooler, a motorsport air/oil separator, IPD GT3 throttle body with custom intake, TTP tandem oil pump, a deep oil sump, Aasco lightweight flywheel, and a knife-edged case-hardened crankshaft. The engine was rebuilt by Vision Motorsports once again in 2017 at just over 31k miles following a damaged rod bearing. Detailed invoices for both engine builds are provided for reference in the photo gallery.
A claimed output of 355 HP is sent to the rear wheels through a 6-speed manual gearbox with a sport clutch, Quaife limited-slip differential, and AUTO-BLiP system. Stopping power is handled by a custom Ceika big brake kit including 355mm full-floating rotors paired with 6-piston calipers up front and 4-piston calipers in the rear. The suspension has also been overhauled with a KW Clubsport coil-over kit, GT3 front control arms, Tarrett GT3 adjustable sway bars, and Tarrett drop links. Additional upgrades include a Porsche Motorsports Cup power steering pump with stainless steel lines, a third front-mounted radiator, a Braille lightweight lithium-ion battery, an LN Engineering power steering cooler, a Fabspped stainless steel sport exhaust, and an Accusump 3-quart kit with spin-on oil filter. A recent oil change has been carried out along with a brake fluid flush and installation of new Hawk brake pads. Under 6k miles have been driven since the last engine rebuild and the seller describes this Cayman S to be in strong track-ready condition for its next owner.
This sale will include invoices for the engine builds and big brake kit, the set of factory wheels, an additional set of OZ Racing wheels, and a clean title. Offering competitive track-oriented performance without sacrificing road-going convenience, this thoroughly upgraded 3.8L Cayman S is not to be overlooked.

Are the marks on the front bumper scratches or rubber from tires? rubber from tires, can be removed.
@jdai944 thanks. I guess I would have to figure out how to get 8 wheels/ tires to me after I get the car shipped...
Any idea why the exhaust tips are crooked?
Are the marks on the front bumper scratches or rubber from tires? Cant remember the correct term for the marbles or whatever
@Davearm127 Called Vision Motorsports , and the IMS issue was resolved during the rebuild
@2mAn yes i can hold for short period of time while shipping is arranged. Can at least one spare set of wheels fit inside the car? I doubt it
@Jdai944 Are you ok with holding on to the car for a short period of time while shipping is arranged? Can at least one spare set of wheels fit inside the car?
Bid in the amount of $20,987
A new video has been added to the listing page.
@993David Engine Tune: 2017, Vision performed the engine tune and dyno runs
Buy engine, get car free!
@seller page 87 tune recommends 100 octane. Has it been retuned?
@993David running 93 octane
@seller is this tuned for and are you running 100 octane gas?
@WarBonnetPres Dyno uploaded,
The dyno numbers that you see in BLUE are from after we replaced the air filter. These numbers are much more like the numbers we are used to seeing after a rebuild with displacement upgrade.
@Davearm127 I will try to find out about IMS
response from previous owner
"The Cayman will pass inspection. It did in Texas with emissions checks. It still has one set of Cats in the headers, and has its O2 sensors.
IMS. I am not sure. Vision did the rebuild. It might be on the receipt. Or you can call Vision to ask
Also, the mileage is original. I bought the car with 9000 miles. It was not my daily driver. The odometer was never changed after the engine rebuilds."
Also asking if the IMS fix was done at either of the rebuilds.
@WarBonnetPres I will upload dyno sheet. here is link for dyno video, http://youtu.be/rN5tNF2u5Gs , pickup is in queens NY 11358. no more spares. recommended oil Mobil 1 (0W40, or 5W40)
@Jolin The LLC is not included in sale
Bid in the amount of $20,000
@seller was the ims design updated in the rebuild?
Bid in the amount of $3,400
Are you including the LLC with the purchase?
Does it pass state inspection with these mods?
NH is easier but emissions delete could be problematic.
Are emsions still part of the motor or is this now a race car?
Wow, a $33,000 engine build. I cant imagine this one will be cheap but sometimes people just need to move on right? Do you have dyno numbers? Where would pickup be? Do you knowvwhat oil is recommended now? Any other spares?
Thankyou sir.
Bid in the amount of $2,987
@RumbleAuto @stevetheodore it works well
@jdai944 - thank you, I'll go read up. Do you find that it works well and is noticable?
@RumbleAuto @stevetheodore , I dont know how to explain it well, here is the website for it. https://www.auto-blip.com/
How does the auto blip system work? Thank you!
the car is registered under a Montana LLC
Yes , the previous owner bored out the original motor to 3.8L. I bought it with all the upgrades. Things I did was the new Sparco seats, 6 point harness , auto blip and short shifter. Oil change and brake flush and new brake pads were done 2 weeks ago. I race in a Formula car series so I dont have time for track days anymore
@pete00 photo 80 is the invoice for boring out the motor, if I'm reading it right.
Bid in the amount of $987
@DMaule Seller can correct me if wrong, but the way the listing reads, the original engine may have been bored out to 3.8L, as opposed to an engine swap.
Do you have any pictures of under the car? Engine, exhaust and suspension.
Why is car registered in Montana? Title?
What year vehicle did the 3.8 come from?
Hi, selling this car because I don't have time to go to track days. Bought it last year and only drove it at 3 track events. Great track car, nothing needed to run in HPDE. Feel free to ask any questions
