Now available for auction is this 2006 Porsche 987 Cayman S finished in Midnight Blue Metallic over a Stone Grey interior with desirable leather Sport Seats.  Representing the first generation of the Porsche Cayman, this top-range 3.4L S-model was configured at an original sticker price of over $73k with options including heated front seats, 19” Carrera S wheels, PASM suspension, the Sport Chrono Package Plus, a painted rear model designation, and Custom Tailoring (special wishes that require further communication).  Highlighting a long history of service on CARFAX as well as some considerable recent maintenance items, this Cayman S shows just over 84k miles on the odometer and is now being offered for auction by its seller out of Tennessee.

This 987 is finished in Midnight Blue Metallic and sports bodywork influenced by historic Porsche racing cars including the 904 and 550 Coupe. Some minor signs of wear are noted in common areas such as the front bumper, hood, and rear quarters.  A collection of detailed images is provided in the photo gallery along with a clean CARFAX report. This example features an optional painted rear model designation, the Bi-Xenon Headlamp Package, and 19” Carrera S wheels which come dressed with colored Porsche center crests and Continental Extreme Contact DWS 06 tires dated from 2017.

Inside, you will find a handsome Stone Grey interior with heated leather Sport Seats, automatic climate control, and the Sport Chrono Package Plus.  Other factory options include a storage compartment lid with an embossed model logo, self-dimming mirrors with an integrated rain sensor, and the Bose Surround Sound System.  The cabin remains true to its original specifications and the seller confirms all gauges and accessories to be fully functional.

This 987 is equipped with a mid-mounted 3.4L flat-six engine rated at 295 HP and 251 lb.-ft of torque.  This naturally aspirated engine utilizes cylinder heads from the 3.8L 997 Carrera S which feature VarioCam Plus variable valve timing.  The rear wheels are driven through a 6-speed manual transmission and stopping power is handled by 4-piston disc brakes at all four corners.  This example was optioned with PASM active suspension and the Sport Chrono Package Plus which allows the driver to adjust engine mapping and handling characteristics with the press of a button.  CARFAX shows a long history of dealer maintenance and recent service items are said to include new fluids and filters, a new clutch, brake pads, rotors, and a new crankshaft position sensor.

This sale will include a set of two keys, original owner's manuals and documentation, a flat tire kit, and a clean title.  This generously optioned and well-maintained 6-speed Cayman S is just waiting to be enjoyed by a new owner, do not miss your chance to get behind the wheel.

@Sandei01 Front tires are 235s. May be a shadow or dark spot in the photo

  • Airliner1 (registered bidder) 2 years, 10 monthsago

There isn't an unattractive line on this car. In my humble opinion, the 987.1 is one of the most beautiful Porsche's ever designed. And love those sport seats! GLWTA!

@Miles.S This is a great spec for the driving experience: Sport Seats + Sport Chrono + PASM + 6-speed manual. Icing on the cake is the Bi-xenon headlamps, Auto climate control, and the 'Preferred Package' which came with the Auto mirrors with rain sensor, Bose, etc... great spec overall. GLWS
I think for the AC controls they were referring to the fact that you can now buy just the two main buttons and easily replace them for about $50, without have to replace the whole control unit for $200-400. Very common repair since they wear easily.

  • energyof2 (registered bidder) 2 years, 10 monthsago

Nicely optioned and with sport seats. I think they use the same exact seats in the early 997's as well as I have had both. Great cars and in my opinion nothing beats mid engine handling. I believe 1st gen Cayman's will appreciate in time having followed Porsche trends since the early 70's. GLWA...I sold mine in 5 hours at above asking. It did have the LN IMS in it as well.

@Griehl hi there! Thanks for the comment. They are a little more expensive that that. I’ve replaced with new units before and they have in around 400. You can get used units around 200 and just the buttons around 100. My experience with replacing just the buttons is typically the snaps break. However if this is a deal breaker, I’d be happy to track down a replacement.
    Cheers!
    Miles
