Produced between 1996 and 2010 across two generations, the S281 is a Saleen-modified version of the Ford Mustang featuring a unique body kit, Racecraft suspension, 20” Saleen wheels, front sport seats, and special Saleen-branded accessories. This 2006 example is #85 of only 124 Saleen S281 Extreme Coupes produced in total and is finished in Redfire Clearcoat Metallic over a Dark Charcoal leather interior. It comes equipped with a supercharged 4.6-liter V8 engine mated to a 6-speed manual transmission and has been further modified with a Kenne Bell Mammoth supercharger kit including a polished twin-screw 3.2-liter supercharger, a dual 75mm throttle body, larger fuel injectors, a Boost-A-Pump fuel delivery system, and a performance ECU tune. This rare Saleen S281 Extreme is now being offered for auction out of California with approximately 13k miles on the odometer.
The S281 Extreme features a Saleen body kit including an aluminum hood with dual heat extractors, redesigned bumpers, side skirts, a fixed rear wing, rear quarter window trim, a carbon fiber rear diffuser, a carbon fiber front splitter, a Saleen-design front grille, and dual center-exit exhaust pipes. This example is finished in Redfire Clearcoat Metallic with contrasting black mirrors, a Saleen windshield banner, S281 Extreme badges on the front fenders, and an “84” decal on the front bumper cover which denotes the car’s production number. Other equipment includes HID headlights, integrated front fog lights, Saleen-branded brake calipers, and 20” Saleen five-spoke wheels in silver. The car rides on Michelin Pilot Super Sport tires with date codes ranging between 2010 and 2022. The seller notes some signs of road-going wear are present on the lower front bumper.
Inside, this S281 features Saleen front sport seats in Dark Charcoal leather with louvered headrests. Other Saleen accessories include Saleen-branded front seat backrests and rear headrests, Saleen door sill guards and floor mats, a Saleen-branded instrument cluster, a Saleen close-ratio shifter, and Saleen pedal covers. The car is also equipped with a three-spoke leather steering wheel, a 6-way power-operated driver’s seat, remote keyless entry, air conditioning, dual vanity mirrors, cruise control, dashboard-mounted auxiliary gauges, and a Shaker 500 sound system.
The 4.6-liter V8 engine was built by Saleen featuring a forged steel crankshaft and connecting rods, forged aluminum pistons, ported aluminum heads, a dual-core radiator, a lightweight aluminum flywheel, and a 2.5” exhaust system. It has been modified with a Kenne Bell Mammoth supercharger kit that includes a polished twin-screw 3.2 liter Kenne Bell supercharger (serial #G17225C), an intercooler, a cold-air intake, a dual 75mm throttle body, 39-lb/hr fuel injectors, a Boost-A-Pump fuel delivery system, and a performance ECU tune. The rear wheels are driven through a Tremec 6-speed manual transmission with a performance clutch, a balanced aluminum driveshaft, and a Saleen Maxgrip 4.10:1 differential. The chassis includes a Racecraft suspension with Slaeen N2 dampers, boxed lower control arms, a front sway bar, linear rate springs, and a three-link rear axle with a Panhard bar. The braking system features four-wheel slotted and ventilated 15” disc brakes and Saleen 6-piston front calipers.

This car will not pass smog due to the supercharger set up, and as far as cats go; I am having our technicians put the car on a lift so we can take a look for the cats. I can get back to you shortly with some more info. As far as the tune goes, we do not have any additional parts or programmers with the car. However, we will be happy to offer you any parts you would like to order for the car at our cost price and can install for you at no cost for the labor.

The KB 2.1l supercharger is typically specd for 2004 and older Mustangs. 2005+ use the 2.8l to 3.2l KB mammoth. Do you know the reason to change out the original supercharger for a 2.1l Kenne Bell?
Does the car come with a programmer for the installed tune?
Are the cats still installed to pass emissions?
@Autotrend We believe the first owner swapped out the original chrome 7 spoke Saleen wheels for these Saleen Secca wheels. Looking at the images from the Mecum auction, this car went through the auction block with the current wheels that are on it right now. The former owner originally paid over $60,000 at Mecum in 2022 and has maintained the car in excellent shape. The car is Saleen original as stated with the exception of the Kenne Bell supercharger. This would be an amazing addition to any Saleen collector's garage!
