Up for auction is this 2007 Mercedes-Benz R230 SL550 finished in Tanzanite Blue Metallic over a Siam Beige leather interior. Representing the fifth generation of the Mercedes-Benz SL-Class flagship grand touring car, the R230 chassis was the first SL to feature a retractable folding hardtop. This 2007 example comes equipped with a premium Bose sound system, climatized multi-contour seats, Active Body Control suspension, Bi-Xenon cornering headlights, and Keyless-Go entry. Routinely serviced while showing approximately 67k miles on the odometer, this SL550 is now being offered for auction by its owner out of New York.

This R230 is finished in Tanzanite Blue Metallic (359U) with a power-folding retractable hardtop that can be raised or lowered in as little as 16 seconds. Exterior details include signature front fender vents, dual exhaust outlets, and Bi-Xenon headlights with active cornering illumination. The SL model underwent a facelift in 2006 including a more pronounced front fascia with larger air inlets as well as new taillights and fog lamps with chrome bezels. Some minor cosmetic imperfections are depicted throughout the exterior including a scrape on the underside of the left front bumper, detailed images are provided in the gallery along with paint meter readings and a clean CARFAX report. This SL550 rides on factory 10-spoke 18” light alloy wheels mounted with Michelin Pilot Sport A/S 3+ tires.

Inside, the cabin features 12-way adjustable heated and ventilated multi-contour seats upholstered in Siam Beige leather with matching door panels and carpeting. Darker leather covers the upper dashboard, center console, and upper door panels while Chesnut wood trim surrounds the gear selector, climate controls, and door handles. Driver amenities include dual-zone automatic climate control, COMAND infotainment with DVD-based navigation, Keyless-Go entry, and a Bose premium sound system. The convertible top was serviced under the current ownership with new actuator pistons and fluid at a cost of over $2,300.  Other items address within the last year include replacement of the roof seals, driver seat switch, vanity mirror covers, and ashtray base. Corresponding invoices are provided in the gallery.

This R230 is fitted with a 5.5L M273 V8 engine which was factory rated at 383 HP and 391 lb.-ft of torque. A 7-speed 7G-Tronic shiftable automatic transmission directs power to the rear wheels while Mercedes Active Body Control suspension helps to virtually eliminate body roll during cornering, acceleration, and braking. CARFAX shows a consistent history of service carried out almost exclusively by authorized Mercedes-Benz dealerships in New York and Florida.  Records provided by the current owner show the rear tires, crank position sensor, starter assembly, transmission valve body, pan gasket, and filter to have all been replaced within the last year.

This sale will include service records and a clean title. For those in search of a high-performance luxury roadster, this nicely appointed SL550 provides an excellent value.

@GilMercedes Sorry, thought the damage was from an off road event or meeting with a curb... you must have hit the driveway at speed. GLWTA!

  • GilMercedes (seller) 2 years, 4 monthsago

@manuals4ever I did not get an estimate on properly repairing the damaged bumper underside. I have a steep driveway and was only aware of a minor scrape. I am confident it would not have affected the wheels or suspension.

@GilMercedes did you happen to get an estimate to properly repair the damaged bumper?
was anything else damaged during the incident? like wheels or suspension?
Good looking SL, I really like the color combo!

@pauliefein I have no idea how the paint got on the panel. It was there when I bought the car. I tried to remove it. First I tried soap and water, with no success. Then I tried a bit of remover, with the limited success you see, and decided to leave it alone.

This car is stunningly beautiful (Frankenstein bumper repair and all) It's painful though to see you've put almost 10 grand into the car this year. Unfortunately that's SL ownership. The next owner should feel very confident in the road worthiness of this fine SL.
In picture 88, how did the passenger side door mirror panel loose it's paint? Was it cleaned with an aggressive chemical?

As the current owner, I can tell you this is a truly beautiful car that draws many admiring glances. It is well-preserved and a pleasure to drive. I will be happy to answer your questions to the best of my ability.
