Now available for auction is this 2007 Porsche 997 GT3 finished in Black over a black interior trimmed in leather and Alcantara.  Unveiled in 2006, the second generation of Porsche’s GT3 carried over the tried-and-true Mezger engine design and featured revised “zero lift” aerodynamics, increased power output, and a track-oriented Porsche Active Suspension Management (PASM) setup.  This 2007 example had been with its original owner up until 2019 at 6,575 miles and has had only one other caretaker since.  It came factory optioned with Sound Package Plus, the Chrono Package, black leather seats with Porsche crested headrests, and wheels painted in an exclusive body-colored finish.  This GT3 is now being offered for auction by its seller out of Ohio with approximately 8k miles on the odometer accompanied by the original books, window sticker, and service records dating back to the original owner’s purchase.

This 997 comes finished in nonmetallic Black and features exclusive rims and center caps painted to match the exterior.  Characteristic features of the GT3 include a model-specific front fascia with large air intakes and a front splitter, a fixed rear wing, and a rear bumper with air vents and a central exhaust outlet.  The exterior has been preserved with a layer of Suntek clear paint protection film applied over the nose, mirror caps, and rockers.  Some very minor chips are noted on the lower rear quarter panels below the factory-applied stone guards, detailed images are provided in the gallery along with paint meter readings and a clean CARFAX report.  The factory 19” GT3 wheels come dressed in a set of Michelin Pilot Super Sport tires dated from 2018.

Inside, the driver is greeted by a black interior with leather Sport Seats and Alcantara upholstery on the seat centers, steering wheel, parking brake handle, and shifter.  The headrests are embossed with Porsche crests and the door sills are emblazoned with GT3 logos.  The cabin is described to have been very well kept and a complete list of factory options is provided below:

  • 28        Black Leather Seats
  • 490      Sound Package Plus
  • 639      Chrono Package
  • 810      Floor Mats - Interior Color
  • A1        Black
  • P12      Self-Dim Mirrors & Rain Sensor
  • P74      Bi-Xenon Headlamp Package
  • XD9     Rims and Caps - Exterior Color
  • XSC      Porsche Crest in Headrest

Power comes from a naturally aspirated 3.6L flat-six Mezger engine featuring a two-stage resonance induction system, titanium connecting rods, and VarioCam variable valve timing.  As much as 415 HP and 300 lb.-ft of torque are sent to the rear wheels by way of a 6-speed manual transmission with a locking differential.  Acceleration from 0-60 MPH is achieved in approximately 4 seconds with a top speed north of 190 MPH.  The optional Chrono Package is equipped, and standard performance features include Porsche Active Suspension Management (PASM), a lightweight aluminum trunk lid and door panels, and 13.78” vented and cross-drilled brake rotors paired with 6-piston calipers in front and 4-piston calipers in the rear.  An extensive collection of service records is said to accompany the sale showing new spark plugs and coil packs installed in 2018 as well as a full inspection completed in November of 2021 in preparation for sale. Some invoices are provided in the gallery along with a DME report.

This sale will include a set of two keys, owner's manuals, service records, the original window sticker, and a clean title. Nicely configured and with low mileage, this increasingly sought-after 997 GT3 awaits its next caretaker.

@GlennG You make a good point. The original base MSRP of the GT3 vs the RS was 87%, so, rarity aside, in my mind the conclusion is that Porsche was effectively stating that the GT3 was almost 90% as good as the RS.

  • GlennG 2 years, 4 monthsago

@Breakthru The base 997 GT3 is 97% of the driving experience at 60% of the price of the RS. It's still the best value in Porsche land.

  • linzman (registered bidder) 2 years, 4 monthsago

Seems like quite a bargain still compared to 2 others I have seen sell this week, but we aren’t close to the 2 minute drill yet.

  • Breakthru 2 years, 4 monthsago

Will be interesting to see where this ends at in relation to the prices RS's have been ending at.

Oops, sorry Renman57, I guess you already said what I just reiterated.

I’ve got a 997.2 GT3 with 23k miles, and had a small amount of RS upgrades done, including the addition of the lightweight RS flywheel. On the track I don’t notice the whine/resonance issue, but driving to and from, it is unmistakable. I use earplugs for longer freeway driving, but then I’ve already lost a lot of hearing, so I may just be erring on the side of caution. The 997 GT3 is an extremely rewarding car to drive - when I get a shift, or downshift right (no auto rev-matching feature!) I feel good. It’s got enough older-type, responsive feeling in it (non-electric steering, thank God) without feeling overdone. It feels like a good resting spot between old and new. I’ve never driven another GT3, so I don’t have anything to compare it to, but I really like the one I have.

  • bphillyer (registered bidder) 2 years, 4 monthsago

If you look at the prices for the 997 RS’s, and then think about how possibly undervalued these GT3s might be, it’s not all that hard to agree with what a lot of people are saying about this car right now. In my humble opinion, this is one of the up and coming cars to watch...both the gen 1 and 2. I’ll be watching this auction with a good deal of interest.

Thanks all for checking out our auction!

I'm surprised this question hasn't been asked yet but maybe all of you are more informed than the masses, but I'll get in front of it anyway.
Please note that on the paint gauge photos you'll see on the front fenders and hood readings of 9-11mil, which is correct for panels with PPF on them as the film adds about 7mil of thickness. The car is all original paint, and the paint is well preserved and protected with the PPF on the front end.

  • stephenolitsky (registered bidder) 2 years, 4 monthsago

@GlennG as a Carrera White 2007 GT3 owner, I couldn’t agree more. I also own a 2007 Turbo and other than strict highway or city driving, much prefer the GT3. Good luck to buyer and seller… an awesome machine.

  • CBRacerX (registered bidder) 2 years, 4 monthsago

Nice example! Very close to my car except quite a few less miles. Buyer will enjoy!

@Renman57 I could not agree more. And based on the fact that the non-RS models are less prone to the issues caused by harmonic imbalance found on the RSs due to their light weight flywheel, I would take a standard GT3 over an RS anyway. If I cared about performance gains, I'd just get a 991 which is objective better in every way, but subjectively better in none.

  • Renman57 (registered bidder) 2 years, 4 monthsago

Based on the current stratospheric pricing of the RS variant of the 997.1 GT3, the non RS model has to be one of the best values in the classic Porsche market today!
