The Targa model represents only a small portion of the total Porsche 997 production run and was the last of its kind to feature a sliding glass roof system and an opening rear hatch. This 2007 Porsche 997 Targa 4S comes equipped with a 6-speed manual transmission paired with its 3.8-liter flat-six engine and is finished in Guards Red over a Black full leather interior. It was designated as a Launch Model for 2007 and came optioned with 19” Turbo wheels, Sport Chrono Package Plus, the Bose High-End Sound Package, and heated seats with Porsche-crested headrests at an original sticker price of over $108k. The car had been cared for by four prior owners upon the seller’s acquisition in March 2021 and previously underwent an engine and clutch replacement under warranty by Porsche. Showing just over 112k miles on the odometer, this Targa 4S is now being offered for auction by its seller out of New York.

This 997 is finished in Guards Red and features aftermarket headlamps, LED daytime running lights, and LED taillight assemblies as well as factory 19” Turbo wheels custom powder-coated in gunmetal grey. It rides on a set of Michelin Pilot Sport 4S tires showing production date codes from 2018. The Targa model received unique stainless-steel trim accents along the roofline, which have been custom wrapped in matte black vinyl for this car. The seller notes some imperfections on the hood and the underside of the front bumper as well as areas of polish-burned clear coat on the driver’s rear quarter. Detailed images are provided in the gallery along with a clean CARFAX report.

The Black full leather interior comes with optional heated and power-operated front seats featuring Porsche-crested headrests as well as Navigation for PCM and the Bose High-End Sound Package. A stopwatch dial is also mounted on the center dashboard as part of the optional Sport Chrono Package Plus. The Targa top system includes a sliding glass roof system and an opening rear hatch window as well as a power-operated sunshade and a glass wind deflector strip which automatically raises into place. An aftermarket black machined aluminum shift knob has been installed and the original piece is also said to accompany the sale. Some common signs of wear are noted on the climate control knobs and driver’s seat bolster.

This Targa 4S is equipped with a naturally aspirated 3.8-liter flat-six engine rated at 355 HP and 295 lb.-ft of torque. All four wheels are driven by way of a 6-speed manual transmission. The seller notes the engine and clutch were replaced by Porsche under warranty in 2012 at approximately 63k miles. Under previous ownership, the car was also fitted with an upgraded Fister exhaust bypass as well as new motor mounts, an additional radiator, and new shock absorbers. The seller notes the car has been professionally maintained by a reputable local specialist throughout their ownership and corresponding service records are available.

This sale will include the original owner’s manuals, a car cover, a battery charger, some documentation, and a clean title.

This sale will include: “This was my second 997.1 and has been a wonderful car. As you can see by the recent mileage, I used the car very sparingly, but have loved every minute of ownership. I am more than happy to answer questions or upload specific close-up pictures. I try to be as up-front as I can about defects and may have over-exaggerated some in the descriptions. I tend to be very critical of my own cars. In reality, that car is absolutely beautiful and shows extremely well.”

Sorry, wrong comment. I have not used the Bluetooth app, but I do t have any reason to think it wouldn’t work. The PO sent me the link to the app. I can share that with whomever buys the car

Good eye, yes the PO installed an aftermarket bluetooth kit, it involves a small wire that is tucked up behind the trim and headliner. The bluetooth connects through an app called Simple Tranzit

  • jameshunt (registered bidder) 10 months, 1 weekago

It looks like there is some sort of aftermarket phone integration (green phone button in pic 81). Can you share any insight on that? If there is an aftermarket installation, does it include bluetooth music?

  • RI9971 (seller) 10 months, 1 weekago

As this auction winds down, I just wanted to put it out there that I purchased the car sight unseen from the PO. It took a little bit of trust which I had developed through multiple discussions with the owner. Upon receipt, I took the car to my local trusted independent Porsche guy and was very happy with everything he had to report. Over the last two years I haven't had any issues arise and have had a yearly service done (the latest of which was in May of this year). If I had to pick on anything on the car, it would only be the couple of paint blemishes noted in the listing, and, on that, I have never had anyone come up to me and point out any of the areas noted, they are all small spots that I knew about and wanted to be fully transparent about with a potential buyer. This car looks fantastic in person, drives great, and sounds absolutely amazing. It needs nothing as is to be enjoyed for many miles to come. If you have any questions, I'll do my very best to answer.

On the phone with P-Car right now. Looks like the video had been sent in but was never posted, sorry about that. Should be uploaded soon.

  • EZPZ123Z (registered bidder) 10 months, 1 weekago

Beautiful car, especially considering the mileage! Is it possible to get some video of the targa top functioning?

I will also say that the car was run for a while before the pictures were taken and the AC was on. It would make sense that it would drip some condensate.

  • RI9971 (seller) 10 months, 1 weekago

I saw that as well when I got the pictures back, and went and checked for myself. I think it just a deceiving angle of the picture. I could not find anything wet or that resembled a leak of any sort when I went and checked.

The car has resided in my garage for the last 2-1/2 years and I’ve never had a drop of any fluid from the car during that time. When I originally purchased the car, the mechanic at the independent shop I use, initially thought he noticed what looked like a spot on the undercarriage cover that might be a leak, but he could not find anything on the motor that was leaking. The car has been back to him for yearly service twice since then and he’s never seen any other leaks.

  • Bearharley (registered bidder) 10 months, 1 weekago

can you address photo 131? it appears to have some serious leakage of some kind on the ground under the car. If it was addressed earlier, I apologize for asking again.

@tgas it happened under previous ownership, so I can’t really say what the circumstances were.

  • tgas (registered bidder) 10 months, 2 weeksago

On the polish burned clear coat - did the detailer not pay for the paint to be fixed?

  • RI9971 (seller) 10 months, 2 weeksago

@Bikebunky1 yeah, sounds like we might be a ways off. Feel free to contact me if you have any other questions.

  • Bikebunky1 (registered bidder) 10 months, 2 weeksago

Didn't find any other targas and only one other high mileage car sold. Dealer cars not making reserve. Car sold for 31k. Had a lot of work done including wheels and coil overs. Lots of low mileage 997s sold in the 40k range. I understand you don't want to divulge the reserve but I don't want to waste half a day if you have higher expectations than the high mileage car.

  • RI9971 (seller) 10 months, 2 weeksago

@Bikebunky1 I would check around this and some other popular auction sites and you’ll get a pretty good basis of what 06-09 Targa 4 and Targa 4S cars have sold for in the past 3-4 months. Pricing is going to obviously be effected by condition, mileage, past history, etc.

  • Bikebunky1 (registered bidder) 10 months, 2 weeksago

Very familiar with the brand have owned 9. I checked kbb and the values were under 30k your year and milage . Also checked completed sales on eBay and there was only one. All others no sale. So I have no idea what your cars value is. I would need some idea what your range is so we don't waste each other's time. I could do the 11am as my appointment in Bridgeport is 2pm

  • RI9971 (seller) 10 months, 2 weeksago

@Bikebunky1 I could do Monday, after 11 or so. What information can I get you?

  • Bikebunky1 (registered bidder) 10 months, 2 weeksago

Could see on Monday but need some info first

  • Bikebunky1 (registered bidder) 10 months, 2 weeksago

Is the car available for inspection. I live in Ct

  • RI9971 (seller) 10 months, 2 weeksago

@38ZFX thanks for the comment. The motor was replaced under previous ownership, but my take on it was that it was due to bore scoring. That came directly from the service manager Porsche Las Vegas where the work was performed.

The car currently has about 112,300 miles on it, and the motor was replaced around 63,000 (exact mileage is listed in the attached documentation.

  • 38ZFX (registered bidder) 10 months, 2 weeksago

    @RI9971
so why was the engine replaced? how many miles on the engine now?

  • RI9971 (seller) 10 months, 2 weeksago

Thanks for checking out the auction for my Targa 4S. This is a fantastic car. I know many may lose interest when they see 112,000 miles in the chassis, but the new(er) motor and clutch and the overall great condition sold me in this car. It’s a car you can both be proud of owning AND enjoy driving. The car has absolutely no dings or dents, but does have a couple of small scratches as noted in the listing. If you have any questions or want any close up pictures, feel free to ask.
