Up for auction is this 2007 Porsche 987 Cayman S track car finished in Cobalt Blue Metallic.  Purchased in its stock configuration by the current owner in 2015 at just over 24k miles, this Cayman S has since been transformed into a street-legal track-day car with over $40k worth of performance upgrades.  It features JRZ RS Pro adjustable shocks, Tarrett suspension components, an upgraded Sachs clutch kit, GT3 throttle body, an OS Giken limited-slip differential, a Supercup Race exhaust system, and PFC full-floating front rotors.  All airbags, electronics, and A/C components have been retained for maximum drivability and safety.  Said to have been used exclusively for non-competitive D.E. events while always being meticulously cared for, this 987 is now being offered for auction by its seller in Kentucky with just over 28k miles showing on the odometer.

The Cobalt Blue Metallic paint is said to be in very good condition, free of any noteworthy imperfections.  Detailed images are provided in the photo gallery.  Under the current ownership, this 987 has been fitted with a front radiator screen, carbon fiber dive planes, a racing tow hook, a 3-piece Joe Toth front splitter, and a Getty Designs Interseries rear wing, uprights, and decklid.  This Cayman S currently rides on a set of Enkei NT03+M wheels in black.  An extra set of Enkei wheels are also said to be included in the sale.

The cabin has been optimized for the track with a heel-toe throttle pedal, Tarrett 4-point bolt-in roll cage, and Schroth 6-point safety harnesses.  Other modifications include a custom Alcantara wrapped factory Sport steering wheel and an Alcantara GT3 shift boot.  The TC/yaw sensor has been reversibly deactivated for performance purposes, and the seller confirms all other gauges and accessories to be fully functional including the airbags and A/C.

The mid-mounted 3.4 L flat-six engine is paired with a 6-speed manual gearbox featuring an upgraded OS Giken limited-slip differential which was newly rebuilt in 2020.  The seller reports that this car has been driven approximately 4k miles during 6 years of ownership while always receiving proper routine maintenance.  The following upgrades have been installed by the current owner for a substantial increase in performance:

@PRandelia I'll look into those. Mine has GT3 ducts in the front, but the rear needs a little bit more air, especially here in Texas.

  • PRandelia (seller) 3 years, 2 monthsago

@xtoph 996/997 turbo rear ducts. I modified them to fit the control arm. Rear pads last FOREVER now. lol

@PRandelia Now the price is in the right range :) I'm curious about the rear brake cooling ducts. I was thinking about adding those to mine. Could you ping me on IG: @xtph51

I also have a set of about 50% used Nitto NT01's I can throw in, and any stock parts I have can go with the car. Winter blow-out!

  • PRandelia (seller) 3 years, 2 monthsago

Did I mention the custom front brake cooling setup. GT3 diverters, GTS lower, and front bumper radiators cutouts behind bumper

@Lc911sc An added IMS solution would be good, but I've seen quite a few track Caymans with 80k miles that did not have an upgraded IMS. There's a lot of value in this car with parts and labor.

Proper oiling and vibration control are what is most important for these cars. My car is the poster child for these proper preparations prior to it's first day on track.

Guys (and Gals), the car has bee run on track for 20 hours (60 x 20min sessions) since early 2019 and the Range 5, which means the car is fine. Was inspected, and all is good. Buy with confidence.

THE most important point about this car is that it has always used the DM flywheel, and the 2.5 Deep sump has been used since it's very first day on track. That is more important than any DME report. Perfect, shiny DME reports don't mean shit. I've seen countless 987's that were DE cars that didn't have proper mods to protect the motor.

Looks like a well sorted out Cayman. I wish you had sold a few months ago. I bought a similar one with same low miles last November and I'm having a blast. This should go for $30k+

  • Lc911sc (registered bidder) 3 years, 2 monthsago

@PRandelia Hi there, I don’t see the DME.
    Where can I find it?
    Thx

  • PRandelia (seller) 3 years, 2 monthsago

Video and DME have been added. I'll be available to answer any questions. Car runs great, and is a beast on track. No issues with the car.

As stated previously, I have 1 used Recaro pole position I can include with the sale if desired. Not much else to say, it's a no-stories car, never any body work, garage stored, and has all the goodies you would want. The only thing I might recommend is to add an aftermarket tune, like Softronic, which will take full advantage of all the engine mods and make even more power, and delete any O2 sensor codes that pop up from time to time from running catless headers.

If you want to race, add a cage, seat and a few other details and you are ready to go. Brakes have already been switched to PCCB setting which allows even less intrusive ABS, which is what you want for the DE/racing. It performs as good as it looks!

A new video has been posted along with a photo of the DME report.

  • PRandelia (seller) 3 years, 2 monthsago

@Pat I have asked the admins to add it

  • PRandelia (seller) 3 years, 2 monthsago

@jbelcredi video of what? Not sure what video can offer you. I gave a video of the car idling to Pcarmarket, not sure what they did with it. It's kind of silly though, to watch a video of a car idling, and try to deduce something from that, or gain some sort of comfort from it. Of course the car starts and runs fine, lol.

I have a short clip of it idling handy if you want it, just message me your email.

  • Pat (registered bidder) 3 years, 2 monthsago

I think most serious bidders would like to see the DME

@Kinderelk A. The IMS in '06-08's are not problematic, the the 97-05 ones that are. This is well known and documented, and is why you don't see 06-08 987's with IMS failures. Owners run these cars on OE IMS bearings for 100K plus. Using a dual mass flywheel also helps with engine life, and is more important than probably anything for these motors.

    B. Send me an email or PM and I will email the DME and info.

  • Kinderelk 3 years, 3 monthsago

    A. What is the status of the IMS in this car? I believe it is in the time that had the bearing failures please let me know.
    B. Can you send the DME to me too?

  • PRandelia (seller) 3 years, 3 monthsago

    @Kinderelk Yep, NCM it is.

  • Kinderelk 3 years, 3 monthsago

@PRandelia sounds like NCM limits. One of the tracks I was thinking of. Thanks.

  • PRandelia (seller) 3 years, 3 monthsago

@Kinderelk We have a 103db @50ft limit at our local track, and it doesn't pop sound there. Depending on weather, it's usually between 99-102db. It's the Fabspeed setup, which does have rear mufflers. The increase in sound is from the catless headers. OE headers are included with the sale, which really quiet the car back down alot further, if needed.

  • Kinderelk 3 years, 3 monthsago

How load is the exhaust? I run at several tracks that have dB limits.

  • PRandelia (seller) 3 years, 3 monthsago

    @Gioialsf 1. Sent
    2. No, it is an upgraded Sach's Performance Clutch kit. Also includes a brand new OE DM flywheel. Car is ready to rock.
    3. I have 5 track/race cars. I am racing full time in GLTC now, and this car gets the least amount of use, and I really need some extra storage space. I love it, but just makes sense to let somebody else enjoy it. The more I talk about it, the more I don't want to sell it....LOL.

  • Gioialsf (registered bidder) 3 years, 3 monthsago

Hi PR. Nice build, very interested. Couple quick questions:
    1. Do you have a DME or over rev report?
    2. Is the clutch original?
    3. Why selling?
    Thanks in advance.

  • PRandelia (seller) 3 years, 3 monthsago

@Mltaylor74 Yes, the upgrades take it to about 320 hp. Car is fast! More HP (prob another 10-15hp) can be made with the addition of a simple aftermarket tune, such as Softronic, which further optimizes the upgrades. Car currently is on OE/stock tune. Car is light, so that is free HP also.

Those seats are the standard bucket seats, they do not work with 6pt harnesses. The new owner can install the "race seat" of their choice that fits them best. There are no "one size fits all" bucket seats for the track, so it's best to leave it up the new owner to buy and install the seat that fits them best, or works for their use. I have removed and sold the race seats that I previously had in the car. The 6pt harnesses will come with the car though.

I do have a spare Recaro Pole Position race seat that I could include with the car, if the buyer wanted it. That is probably one of the most comfortable and accommodating seats for most "average size" persons. It's good for small or bigger alike. I'm about 5"10 185lb and I love that seat. I use them in my other cars too. They offer nice hip room and side bolsters are easy to get in and out of.

Probably 310-320hp... unless you build the motor the gadgets don’t amount to much... so to the seller if I over spoke

  • Mltaylor74 (registered bidder) 3 years, 3 monthsago

Great job with this car. Looks to have all the right track upgrades! A couple quick questions. Do you know the new HP and Torque ratings after all your upgrades? How do the harnesses work as I am not seeing where they pass through the seats or come up through the seats in the seat cushion?
