Up for auction is this 2008 Porsche 997 Carrera S finished in Arctic Silver Metallic over a black standard leather interior. This first-generation 997 Carrera S was acquired by the current owner from Manhattan Motorcars as a Certified Pre-Owned vehicle in 2010 at just over 4k miles. It came factory optioned with a 6-speed manual transmission, the Sport Chrono Package Plus, Bose High-End Sound Package, and heated front seats with Porsche crested headrests. Having been carefully looked after and routinely serviced throughout the current ownership, this 997 shows just over 26k miles on the odometer and is now being offered for auction by its second owner out of New York.
This 997 comes finished in Arctic Silver Metallic and rides on a set of upgraded 19” Carrera S II wheels which were custom finished in Orion Black by Proformance Industries. Paint protection film has been applied over the front bumper, hood, fenders and stone guards. A small ding is noted on the passenger door and right rear quarter panel as well as a few scratches on the underside of the front bumper. Detailed images are provided in the photo gallery along with a clean CARFAX report. The car rides on a set of Michelin Pilot Sport 4S tires dated from 2017-2018, and the original 19” Carrera S wheels are said to accompany the sale as well.
Inside, you will find a black standard leather interior with the optional Bose High-End Sound Package as well as the Power Seat Package, front seat heating, Navigation Module for PCM, self-dimming mirrors, and Exclusive Porsche crested headrests. The cabin is described to be in good condition with very minimal signs of wear and all gauges and accessories remaining fully functional apart from the remote 6-disc CD changer.
This first-generation 997 Carrera S is equipped with a naturally aspirated 3.8L flat-six engine that sends up to 355 HP and 295 lb.-ft of torque to the rear wheels through a 6-speed manual transmission. The optional Sport Chrono Package Plus allows the driver to optimize engine and PASM suspension characteristics with the press of a button on the center console. This 997 had been dealer-maintained early on during the seller’s ownership before it was serviced by Redline Speed Worx in New Jersey and more recently Formula Motorsports in New York. All routine maintenance has been kept up to date with the last oil change completed in July of 2021.
This sale will include a set of two keys, owner's manuals, service records, and a clean title. With its long-term ownership, low miles, desirable options, and consistent history of maintenance, this 2008 example may very well be the 6-speed Porsche 997 you've been searching for.

@beckerj01 Hi again, that is a Rennline magnet mobile phone holder. I purchased that from Rennline as it is specifically designed for the 997.1, allowing to install the phone holder without the need to drill any holes whilst still firmly holding a mobile phone in place. It bolts in using factory holes for panel screws. So if you’d chose to remove it, you unscrew the panel, take the phone holder off and put the panel back and you’d have no ugly holes, scratches, scuffs etc. You wouldn’t be able to tell it was there. @beckerj01 Hi again. So I tried checking to the best of my abilities as I’m not sure how to visually tell the difference between xenon and halogen. According to Stuttcars.com the option code for xenon is 601. That is not an option the car has so I’m going to assume the car has halogen headlights. If someone can tell me how I visually confirm that, happy to do so.

@beckerj01 hi there and thanks for your question. The in-car cd player works without a problem. That’s why i never had the cd changer looked at. I’ve always left it as is. It was a factory option at the time is my understanding so should be easily replaceable if not repairable.

@Bzcat Hi there, I actually found the invoice (thank you square!) and sent it to PCarmarket for upload. What I also found - and had initially forgotten about - is that the car got a new windshield last year. When driving on the highway, a rock coming off a truck hit the windshield and it cracked as a result. Now, I actually have insurance coverage for this but what I found out is that the insurance makes you put in an aftermarket windshield at a service provider of their choice (call it ignorance on my part, I probably should have expected that). That didn’t sit well with me, so I ended up not making the claim against my insurance but instead paid out of pocket myself for an OEM Porsche windshield to be installed by Formula Motorsports. I have asked PCarmarket to upload that invoice as well.
@Bzcat Hello there and thanks for your questions. I have most of the service records from my ownership, probably not all though. For the last 6 years or so that the car was maintained at Formula Motorsports I don’t have a lot of paper records anymore. However, Formula Motorsports will have these and I am sure that Michael (the owner - and also a known and highly regarded PCA member) is willing to have a conversation with you on any questions you have. The last service in July was essentially a check up and oil change. I will ask Formula Motorsports to send me the invoice although I’m not sure whether i can have that uploaded in time because of the Holiday weekend, but I will try.
Do you have all the service record since purchase? Can you upload the invoice from the July 2021 service mentioned in the listing?

@beckerj01 sorry, forgot to answer your other repairs question. No electrical, mechanical or other repairs needed (other than what is mentioned in the ad and shown in the pics). The car is fully up to date on maintenance as well. Trust this is helpful.
@beckerj01 Hi there, thanks for your questions. I don’t have estimates for the body work repairs you ask for. I have never looked into making the repairs because these things didn’t bother me as they aren’t visible unless you’re really looking for them. Sorry, cannot help further there. As the car has no oil consumption, puffs of smoke on start up, starts up without a problem, has good pressures and runs well in general, I have never felt a need to look for bore scoring. The engine simply runs well, so no need. Thanks again for your questions.

Very satisfactory response about an '08 imsb. If next owner sweats it, install an aftermrkt unit when the clutch needs replacing. I'd be more concerned about bore scoring since this was a VT/ NY car but the oil pressure at idle with warm oil and motor looks very good. This car almost ticks enough boxes for me. I'm watching how it goes.
@beckerj01 Hi, thanks for your question. I was expecting the IMS question. :-) No, it has not been done. Over the years, mainly in the first years of owning the car, I have gone to several Porsche specialty shops and dealers (Rennwerke, Southshore Performance, Formula Motorsports, RSWorx and the Porsche dealers in Manhattan, Farmington and Porsche Goldcoast) to enquire whether i should do the upgrade as a preventative measure. The consistent view I was getting from specialty shops as well as dealers was to not worry about it and just enjoy the car. They all told me that the 2008 model, the last builds of the 997.1 series, had a significantly upgraded bearing over the earlier cars and the failure rates, according to all, were extremely low and only impacted poorly maintained cars that were often heavily tracked as well. Is the risk of the IMS bearing failing 0%? No it is not, but that’s never going to be the case on any NA 997.1 car, not even with the upgrade. On this car it hasn’t been an issue though. The engine runs great, it has been maintained with regular oil changes and other maintenance needs by specialty shops and it wasn’t used as a track car. It was religiously driven and enjoyed on long Saturday and Sunday morning drives (so not for running quick errands), mainly in the Bear Mountain area up in NY. All the aforementioned shops have told me I shouldn’t worry about it with a 2008 car and so I haven’t, and so far, that advice has proven to be right. Apologies if this is a somewhat long winded answer to your question. As a 997.1 owner the IMS bearing was obviously on my mind in the early stages of ownership, but has since then and with the advice of the specialists dissipated as a concern. Appreciate the question though. Also, the car has no mechanical or other maintenance needs (except for the few cosmetic items that are called out in the ad and pictures). The last time it was in for maintenance at Formula Motorsports was in July this year. I trust this is helpful, but let me know if there are further / follow up questions.
