We are pleased to present this 2008 Porsche 997 GT2 finished in Guards Red over a Black full leather interior. With its 3.6L twin-turbocharged engine rated at 530 HP, the 997 GT2 was one of the fastest roadgoing Porsche 911’s available to the public at the time of launch. It features a six-speed manual transmission, rear wheel drive configuration and light weight design making for a truly visceral driving experience. The Guards Red finish is reported to be in excellent condition with a layer of ceramic coating applied to the entire exterior surface along with paint protection film applied to the front end. @Jtkeller We have all the service records on the car which you would receive with purchase. The car was ceramic coated, and PPF was done to the entire front clip, mirrors, and hood. No paintwork done that we are aware of.

@RumbleAuto @stevetheodore Steve I agree whole heartedly, I acquired my GT2 3 years ago. Not only was it the last GT2 (non RS) but also one of the last Metzger engined Turbo cars. The 997.2 GT2 RS that came after was a different animal. Sorry guys I have not been doing a great job following along with this auction and comments, but see a good conversation broke out since my last visit. I'm thrilled to see the current level of bidding for this beautiful 997.1 GT2 and do feel there is quite a bit more coming before the fat lady sings.
Regarding the earlier question about why I feel that 997.1 GT2s are undervalued, I think it was mainly Porsche's fault for not singing the praises of this model when it was new, and journalists didn't really cover it as much as some of the GT3 models of the same era. Although I do agree that GT3s are more emotional overall due to their sound and immediacy of response, the GT2 is much more special than just being a RWD Turbo.
Those of us who hold them do recognize this, but I think the overall market misunderstands the car and doesn't think of it as often, whereas everyone knows what a GT3 or GT3 RS is, not just Porschephiles.
As for my own example? It's about to turn 49k miles and I have driven it across the USA and also from Seattle to Las Vegas (and went road racing during my visit). It's such a sensational car, and you can do practically anything with it.
I just wanted to add to the comments of altrvr and GruppeC956. I strongly agree with altrvr. I have owned a stock 2008 Black GT2 for several years, purchased with 4k miles (replacing my long loved 993 Turbo which it feels similar to, but as my teenage son said after a drive, better in every way!) and now with about 14k miles on it. I just love driving the car. I have taken it to Laguna and Thunderhill and it was an absolute blast on the track especially when the turbos kick in. I mainly use it for spirited driving on the back roads in NorCal and had a memorable trip down CA 25--being able to easily pass 2 semi's at a time on 2 lane roads definitely helps, not sure you could do that in a 997 GT3!
I also really like the size (definitely feels smaller than the 991), looks, and the 6 speed. I recently got a 991 GT3 and have been thinking about selling the GT2 as I don't really have space for it (which is the reason I had to sell the 993) but I just can't bring myself to do it. I don't know if they are "underrated" or not but they are definitely highly rated in my book!
Assume in and out , all in excell condition. This should get min $200k. New owner won't regret the investment in this Mitzger engine equipped Porsche.

I think Sport Auto is actually responsible for manufacturers starting to chase and publicize Nurburgring Nordschleife lap times, because they started the "Supertest" back in 1997 (first ever candidate was an E36 M3), and the Nordschleife and Hockenheim lap times became the centerpiece of performance comparison for the enthusiast crowd. The fact that the journalist (driver) has only changed once since the inception of the test format really helps when it comes to comparing apples to apples.
So, a few highlights from the 997 GT2 test: 78 out of 80 possible points, 329 km/h top speed, 7:33 around the Nurburgring, with a journalist at the wheel (same journalist managed 7:32 in a Carrera GT a few year earlier, admittedly not on Cup tires). The famous S-Go-5108 press car was guards red over black, just like this one here. I am a 20+ year subscriber to the magazine, so I remember reading the review at the time, on paper, and I remember thinking "this is the ultimate sports car. I never forgot about it. Enjoy!

I think the PCARmarket copy is worded weirdly talking about those the rear wing and bumpers, as I think they were attempting to highlight the distinguishing/unique bodywork features on the GT2 to a 997 Turbo or 997 GT3....I think that's what they were going for, but the first time I read it to, I though the car had been modded.
Going back to @GruppeC956 i agree the styling of this car is amazing...the perfect combination of purposeful aggressiveness without too busy and skeletal. Best looking 911 after the 993 RS Clubsport and 993 GT2 in my opinion, and I love seeing the giant wing in the side view mirrors.
As far as collectability, the 2 most important attributes are first 911 to exceed 200 mph (325 kph) and record holder at the time at Nurburgring.
The mention of "numbered cars" I sort of cringe at, because that's really a modern thing (were there any actual numbered cars before Porsche started putting a number of everything in 2011) I mean, GT2 RS, GT3 RS 4.0 both great cars even without numbers, Speedster I personally like, but you know...then 50th Anniversary....ok, but is 1964 examples really that limited....same with new speedster....and now 992 "numbered" Targa's with a gumball sticker......my counterpoint as to why the 997.1 GT2 not being numbered is irrelevant is look at cars with higher production numbers, and commanded significant premiums, and probably similar in terms of contemporary "specialness" 1973 RS, 964 RS, the 964 Turbo 3.6 listed on here....all higher production, and all will sell for more. Again, not suggesting the GT2 is "undervalued", but I think there are supportive attributes that make it a long-into-the-future desireable car....and if the market doesn't agree longer term, it's still a hell of a lot of fun to drive!

I am (obviously?) also looking at manual 991.2 GT3s, especially the Touring. The more 911s I drive, the more my conviction that manual-RWD-N/A is the magic formula gets corroborated. The GT2 seems to be the (turbocharged) exception. Your descriptions match my expectations, and the experiences of the non-stock GT2 I drove, except the engine was not as usable, which is to be expected.
The size of the 997s (I currently own a manual Carrera GTS) is also something I really like. By today’s standards, they are small, which is great for windy roads. Last, I think the looks of the (non RS) 997 GT2 really deserve to be mentioned here. The appearance is purposeful, but not as overcooked as the RS models, with tons of carbon and tons of vents. It’s still clean. And I believe it will age really well. I will need to drive a stock 997 GT2 before I can really make up my mind, but as I said, I have been looking for one for over a year now (and this red example is really nice).

@GruppeC956 I'll take a stab at that. I've had a 2008 GT2 (completely stock) for about 6 months and I've driven it about 2,500 miles. My opinion about what makes it great is that it's amazingly fast at any rev speed with all that torque available at 2,200 rpm. I drive a 991.2 GT3T as well, which is also an amazing car, but you really have to be above 5,000 rpm to have a sensation of speed, which is less usable unless you have a lot of road to play with.
The biggest surprise on the GT2 was how raw it feels (you feel every tiny imperfection) and when you take it on the twisties how the car shrinks.
I can't think of any car to compare it to. It has all the power/weight of any brand new exotic, but still that old school feel, and a manual.
When sports writers talk about criteria for a player to be in the Hall of Fame, it's usually the player had to be the best at their position for some period of time they were playing. That's the GT2. No production car in the late 2000's was as fast and had that level of handling.
As far as undervalued, I'll let the market decide that, but I can't think of any car under $250k that seems more appealing.
Lovely 997 GT2. Have been looking for one for a while. Big fan of the guards red. @bachschmidt and @stevetheodore: since there are less than 1300 of these in the world, it’s a rare opportunity to have two owners in one “place”. I am very dialed into the whole 997/991 GT car market. The 997 GT2 seems, as you guys say, underrated and somewhat undervalued, especially compared to all the GT3 and all the GT2 RS variants out there. It’s the only one you can constantly buy for less than MSRP.
I know you guys disagree with the value these cars fetch (you, Steve, have also been vocal about that on BaT)
But why are they undervalued, in your opinion? I would say because they are (old school) turbo charged, and (as opposed to the 997.2 GT RS) not limited run. I recently got to drive a 997.1 GT2 that was unfortunately not stock. Too much power for its own good. But was still a fantastic car. So not sure why they are underrated.

The 997 type GT2 / GT2 RS is Porsche best production cars, mechanically and aesthetically since the 993 turbo /GT model back in late 90s. All model types Porsche that came after them, not really true to Porsche spirit.

@bachschmidt - as a fellow owner of a Basalt Black metallic example, I truly do understand. These are VERY special cars and were not marketing correctly when they were new. They are extraordinarily underrated relative to their GT3/RS peers.
