Now available for auction is this 2008 Porsche 997 Targa 4S finished in Black over a two-tone Black and Terracotta leather interior. Accounting for only a small portion of total 997 production, the Targa model was offered in an all-wheel-drive configuration with a unique sliding glass roof system. This 2008 4S example was configured at an original cost of over $118k with a 6-speed manual transmission, Sport Chrono Package Plus, the Bose High-End Sound Package, Adaptive Sport Seats, and several options from Porsche’s Exclusive Department including door entry guards in stainless steel, instrument dials in Carrara White, and the Sport Exhaust System. This 997 was originally sold from Porsche Monterey before it was purchased by the previous owner from Porsche Palm Springs in 2019 as a Certified Pre-Owned vehicle. A lifelong California car showing a consistent history of dealer maintenance on CARFAX, this rare 997 Targa 4S is now being offered for auction by its seller out of Los Angeles while showing just over 50k miles on the odometer.
This 997 is finished in Black and features a large sliding glass roof panel as well as a unique silver accent strip along the roofline. Some minor road-going wear is reported on the nose, detailed images are provided in the photo gallery along with a clean CARFAX report. This Targa rides on aftermarket 19" wheels that are currently dressed in Michelin Pilot Sport tires dated from 2014.
Inside, the driver is greeted by a beautiful two-tone Black and Terracotta leather interior with Adaptive Sport Seats and factory Exclusive options including Porsche crested headrests, instrument dials in Carrara White, and door entry guards in stainless steel. Optional self-dimming mirrors are also equipped as well as heated front seats, a 3-spoke multifunction steering wheel, fire extinguisher, the Bose High-End Sound Package, and Sport Chrono Package Plus. The Targa top system can be operated at any speed and allows the large glass roof panel to slide back beneath the rear window providing an open and airy driving experience. The original PCM head unit has been replaced in favor of an aftermarket Alpine Bluetooth stereo which also incorporates navigation, satellite radio, and a backup camera. The original PCM head unit is said to accompany the sale as well. The cabin is described to have been well cared for with only minimal signs of wear noted on the seating surfaces.
This first-generation 997 4S is equipped with a naturally aspirated 3.8L flat-six engine that delivers as much as 355 HP and 295 lb.-ft of torque to all four wheels through a 6-speed manual transmission. The optional Sport Chrono Package allows the driver to optimize suspension characteristics and engine mapping while the Sport Exhaust System provides enhanced sound with the press of a button. A history of maintenance is provided on CARFAX showing a lifetime of dealer maintenance carried out primarily through Porsche Monterey.

@Bagger76 - Hi there. I believe that the engine number is listed on the Vehicle Diagnostic Report which was uploaded as an image yesterday…I think that it will be the last image in the photo gallery. Hope that this helps.
@Bsharo - Hi there. There are a couple of videos attached to this thread which show the top operation as being smooth and noise free…also, no leaks from the roof when we have washed the car.
How is targa top, any squeaks or leaks?
Beautiful car. If you could provide the engine number that would solve whether or not the IMS is one that would need to be replaced at some point.
Hi All. We have a copy of the Vehicle Diagnostic Report for this Targa 4S which we have submitted to @pcarmarket to upload. The company that completed the task for us also advised that they are unable to provide a ‘clutch snap’ reading on a manual transmission vehicle, as this is not possible.
@ColHunter Good Morning. The car was acquired by the prior owner from Porsche Palm Springs in 2019. At that time, he was not presented with any prior documentation, i.e paper records detailing prior services. This is very typical when acquiring a car from a franchise store.
I cannot comment (nor would I guess) on whether the IMS bearing has been replaced or any other preventative actions carried out.
Are you able to provide more detail on oil change history? the carfax report lists only 5 oil changes in the vehicle's history. Any details that careful checking for metal shavings in the oil filter/sump or installation of a magnetic sump plug would be very much appreciated. Alternately, has the IMS Bearing been replaced?

Good morning all. I am out of the office for the next several days, but my Partner is going to take the Targa 4S to his local Porsche store this afternoon or tomorrow morning and ask for them to run a DME report for engine over revs. We will also ask to see if we can get a clutch reading on the car. As soon as we have the results, we will publish for you all to see.

Hi guys. I’ll add a few videos of the glass roof operation in action over the next 24 hours. Whilst in our care and that of the prior owner, there have been no oil consumption issues.
Two keys are included with the sale, together with owners handbooks, indoor car cover and original Porsche head unit.
We have not obtained a clutch life reading nor have we had the cylinders scoped for bore scoring.
I can share that having driven this gorgeous machine, the clutch feels great, gear shifts smooth and everything is working, as you should expect.
Can you add a pic of a recent over-rev report? Does the front end have a clear bra?
Great car! I have the same one in Nordic gold. I love the terracotta interior on this one. These targas look so sleek and semi retro when driving by with the silver targa trim bar. Glws!
