  • Mileage: 32,995
  • Transmission: Manual

  • Color: GT Silver Metallic

  • Location: St James, NY 11780
  • Lot #: V-0041569-DT

Finished in GT Silver Metallic over a Cocoa Special Leather interior, this 2008 Porsche 997 Turbo pairs a 6-speed manual transmission with its 3.6-liter Mezger flat-six engine. It was also optioned with the Sport Chrono Package Turbo, heated Adaptive Sports Seats, a rear center console in leather, and more. Meticulously maintained and garage-stored, this 997 is now being offered for auction by its seller out of New York while showing less than 33k miles on the odometer.

The 997 Turbo differentiates itself from the Carrera by its wider fenders with integrated side air intakes and its unique bumper design and speed-activated rear spoiler. This example is finished in GT Silver Metallic and rides on factory 19” 911 Turbo wheels wrapped in Michelin Pilot Sport 4S tires mounted approximately 18 months ago. The seller notes that the front bumper has been repainted and two scratches have been touched up. One small scratch and minor signs of road wear have been identified. Detailed images are provided in the gallery along with paint meter readings and a clean CARFAX report.

Inside, the cabin presents Cocoa Special Leather upholstery with matching floor mats, a rear center console in leather, heated Adaptive Sports Seats, a 6-disc CD changer, and a lap timer stopwatch mounted on the dashboard as part of the Sport Chrono Package. The seller notes that a Kenwood Excelon head unit has been fitted and that minor scratches are present on the door handle and scuff plate. All gauges and electronics are reported to be working properly.

Powered by a twin-turbocharged 3.6-liter Mezger flat-six engine, the 997 Turbo sends up to 480 HP to all four wheels by way of a 6-speed manual transmission. The optional Sport Chrono Package Turbo equips a Sport drive mode and a temporary overboost function, providing a temporary increased peak torque of 502 lb.-ft. Acceleration from 0-60 MPH is possible in approximately 3.8 seconds with a top speed of over 190 MPH. Braking is handled by cross-drilled 350mm discs, fixed 6-piston calipers in front, and fixed 4-piston calipers in the rear. At 17k miles, in 2013, the clutch slave and master cylinders were replaced by Porsche Austin, along with the reservoir and spoiler drive assembly. Subsequently, at 23.4k miles the engine was removed, and the cams were pinned by Porsche Austin, and at 26.2k miles the car had its 30k-mile service performed at Porsche Austin, along with replacement of all ignition coils and all O-rings on the B1 turbo oil tank. Additional recent maintenance is said to include a brake fluid flush and a new intercooler in 2023.

This sale will include a window sticker, a spare tire, an air pump, and a clean title.

The seller would like you to know: “This car has been well cared for, I bought it from the previous owner through Rennlist, he purchased the car from Holtz Motorsports which has an exceptional reputation. In roughly 3.5 years I have put less than 3k miles on the car, always garage-kept, and turnkey ready. I have an Excel sheet with all the service records. This is an excellent example of a 997 turbo that has been taken care of.”

It's just sad that perfectly good examples of these cars get passed on because of a "dirty report". What does that even mean? Sure, overrevs in range 5 and 6 resulting in fractions of seconds spent in that upper range(on a GT1 race derived engine no less) I get it, every person has different risk tolerance. I truly believe these reports are a crime as there is no empirical evidence that an overrev(on a motor that was designed to spin to 9k on the GT cars) ever resulted in engine damage. Furthermore, even if it was possible, said engine damage would typically present itself immediately. Just my $.02 after following and owning these cars for 13+ years.

No report of any kind will absolutely ensure that a motor isn't going to have an issue. In this auction however, it was the lack of the seller to provide one piece of data despite multiple requests for it: the total DME hours, that in my opinion held back bidding. Any decent Porsche shop could pull the number from their PIWIS, probably for offering the tech just a few bucks for his time. I contacted guys I know at Pcarmarket to prod the seller to answer the questions, but he never did. I was standing by to bid, although I probably wouldn't have won it because if the overevs were shown to be anything reasonably distant in past history, this car likely would have gone for over $100K.

Can you please send me a driving video

  • jcbarrios2003 (registered bidder) 3 weeks, 1 dayago

Oil analysis paired with a bad DME report should help a buyer make a more informed decision and will assure that the engine has no issues. Just my two cents

  • 6thinline9 (registered bidder) 3 weeks, 1 dayago

@Snolvr some people want zero risk and DME helps those people make that decision.

  • Snolvr (registered bidder) 3 weeks, 1 dayago

DME reports, worst thing Porsche created, ever. Overhyped, unreliable and misunderstood. No other manufacturer even has such a “report”. Furthermore, not one documented Mezger failure due to excessive overrevs, ever. Come on guys.

@oldsouth the car runs like an absolute champ fyi, I have been transparent about everything to the best of my ability. I unfortunately can’t upload videos to the site at this point but can send you a cold start video and run it through the gears.

@Wtpevan I am interested in your car, but no driving video and unknown hours since level 5 and 6 on the DME doesn't build any confidence that I would be purchasing a car that I could not even drive back to Louisiana without the engine failing.

  • oldsouth (registered bidder) 3 weeks, 2 daysago

I know time is running out but to decipher that DME we need to know the current hrs on this car.

@mottcom I just uploaded photos, I have all the original manuals and both keys.

  • Wtpevan (seller) 3 weeks, 3 daysago

@JohnnieDriftwood there were 5’s and 6’s when I bought the car, I wasn’t overly happy about it but the folks over at leading edge auto sports said the car was in great shape which was why I bought it, there was a previous 997 turbo I did a ppi on and I didn’t buy it. Unfortunately I do not have a copy of the ppi report and leading edge no longer has a copy. I am selling it as I want to buy another multi family home, I’ll start looking once this is sold.

  • JohnnieDriftwood (registered bidder) 3 weeks, 3 daysago

@Wtpevan Hi @Wtpevan - Interesting, it looks like the previous owner said that the DME report from ~700 miles before you picked it up never hit ranges 5-6. Any thoughts there or conversations regarding that with the previous owner after you got the PPI back?

Apologies if missed, reason for selling?

Great looking 997t in silver. Thx!

  • Wtpevan (seller) 3 weeks, 3 daysago

@andyawb I added some more interior photos, hopefully its what your looking for, im definitely not a photographer. If you want something specific let me know and ill take the photos. As for the DME report, i dont know what else i can do, I can try to get something done tomorrow with the total dme hours. If there is a specific report you are looking for i will do my best and try to get it.

Are there any more interior pictures available? And can you get the total DME hours please?

  • mottcom (registered bidder) 3 weeks, 4 daysago

I didn't see any images of the manuals, books, prior owners' service records, or keys. What is currently with the car? Also, is it possible to post your spreadsheet of maintenance?

  • jcbarrios2003 (registered bidder) 3 weeks, 4 daysago

@Dporte13 thank you for your answer regarding the DME
@Seller can you post a recent DME, this will significantly help or detriment the sales price of your vehicle.

  • Wtpevan (seller) 3 weeks, 6 daysago

@vengerider Ill take photos for you of the interior ill have it for you by tomorrow morning.

  • Dporte13 (registered bidder) 3 weeks, 6 daysago

Also sorry for all the typos, i don't see an edit button

  • Dporte13 (registered bidder) 3 weeks, 6 daysago

In my opinion the dme isn't horrible, in that the car doesn't appear to have been abused constantly, it has what is day is a single bad event which may have been a money shift. If it's been a couple hundred hours since it occurred then it should not be a concern. Getting total hours would really help here

  • Wtpevan (seller) 3 weeks, 6 daysago

@Dporte13 I tried getting a copy of the PPI report from when I originally bought the car, It had the over revs then, unfortunately they no longer have a copy of the report and I dont have it either

  • Dporte13 (registered bidder) 3 weeks, 6 daysago

@jcbarrios2003 the dme doesnt look great however it looks like that much of the bad over revs may have come from a single event. With higher range over revs you want to get some time since it occurred to know it didnt cause damage and i dont see total hours listed. Given the mileage of the car, id guess these were fairly recent which isnt ideal. Its good the seller is being transparent that it has high range over revs but it would help if the reading had total hours

  • jcbarrios2003 (registered bidder) 3 weeks, 6 daysago

Can anyone comment on provided DME report. Looks like it has a lot of over revs. Also would like to see pictures of the driver seat

  • vengerider (registered bidder) 4 weeksago

@Wtpeven Would kindly post better pictures of the drivers/passengers seats? The ones taken are all at angles and it's very hard to see wear. Thank you.
