Celebrating Hans Herrmann’s 80th birthday and his legendary win behind the wheel of an RS 60 Spyder at the 1960 Sebring 12-hour race in Florida, the 2008 Porsche 987 Boxster RS 60 Spyder Edition features GT Silver Metallic paint over a special Carrera Red Natural Leather interior. It was limited to 1,960 examples in total and comes standard with a SportDesign front fascia, Porsche Active Suspension Management (PASM), a painted center console, silver seatbelts, an exposed instrument cluster, Sport Seats, RS 60 logo door sills, 19” SportDesign wheels, and a sport exhaust system lending to a 303 HP output from its flat-six engine. This Boxster RS 60 Spyder Edition is one of approximately 800 examples delivered to the U.S. and comes equipped with a 6-speed manual transmission, optional deviated carpeting, Porsche-crested headrests, the Sport Chrono Package, automatic climate control, and the Bi-Xenon Headlamp Package. Acquired by the seller from its second owner, this limited-edition Boxster S is now being offered for auction out of Texas with approximately 39k miles showing on the odometer.

The RS 60 Spyder Edition Boxster comes finished in GT Silver Metallic and is distinguished by a SportDesign front fascia, a black-framed windscreen, red taillight lenses, and 19” SportDesign wheels. This example comes equipped with a black cabriolet roof and optional Bi-Xenon headlights. Other features include dual exhaust tips, side air intakes, red brake calipers, a removable wind deflector, and silver roll bars behind the front seats. The seller notes a set of new Pirelli P Zero tires were mounted during the summer of 2023 and a few scuffs and dings are present on the lower front valence as well as a small scratch on the left rear fender and signs of age on the clear stone guard decals. Detailed images are provided in the gallery along with a clean CARFAX report.

Inside, the Boxster RS 60 Spyder comes standard with Carrera Red Natural Leather upholstery as well as an exposed instrument cluster, a GT Silver Metallic painted center console, silver seatbelts, a three-spoke Sport steering wheel, Sport Seats, and RS 60 Spyder logo door sills in stainless steel. A serialized limitation plaque is mounted on the glovebox door and special perforated leather is used for the seat centers, door panel inserts, parking brake, and steering wheel. This example comes equipped with optional deviated black carpeting, heated seats, Porsche crest-embossed headrests, the Bose High-End Sound Package, automatic climate control, the Sport Chrono Package, and a Porsche CDR24 stereo. The seller reports all gauges and accessories are working properly.

Equipped with a special sport exhaust system, the Boxster RS 60 Spyder offers up to 303 HP from its naturally aspirated 3.4-liter flat-six engine. This example is equipped with a 6-speed manual transmission sending power to the rear wheels. The car comes standard with Porsche Active Suspension Management (PASM), wheel spacers, and fixed 4-piston aluminum monobloc brakes with ventilated and cross-drilled discs at each corner. This Boxster S has been fitted with aftermarket slotted rear brake rotors and the seller reports regularly scheduled maintenance has been kept up to date.

This sale will include owner’s manuals, two keys, a window sticker, a toolkit, a spare tire, an air pump, and a clean title.

The seller would like you to know: “This special edition 987 Boxster S has been a joy to own and operate. After taking it as part of a trade for one of my air-cooled 911s I have been thoroughly impressed with this car, not only for its strong performance, sport suspension, and aggressive exhaust mode but for its creature comforts as well. It's an easy car to drive, whether in traffic or out carving things up. Top down it's quiet enough to hear the Bose stereo and still enough to keep your hat from blowing off your head. This car will flat eat up the miles and with two trunks it's a great weekend destination-getter. As a bonus, it is drop-dead gorgeous.

    @nobrakes Thank you.

  • nobrakes (seller) 3 months, 1 weekago

@FawsittMotors I am at lunch, may be too late to get a pic posted. As I said before the camera doesn't do a good job picking it up. I can say it doesn't grab your finger nail. I have not used any product because I am not a professional and have produced some pretty regrettable results using compounds on small scuffs and scratches.

  • FawsittMotors (registered bidder) 3 months, 1 weekago

Do you have a picture of the scratch on the left rear fender? How long is it, is it through the clear coat?

@CitySlicker561 I have uploaded a pic of the door panel. It cleaned right up, sorry I did not catch that.

  • nobrakes (seller) 3 months, 1 weekago

@CitySlicker561 I will get some fresh pics of the clean door panels and post them in the morning.

  • CitySlicker561 (registered bidder) 3 months, 1 weekago

In picture 55 and 73 of the door panels, cannot tell if reflections or are their impressions or scratches in the red door mouldings? Does the white showing in pic 55 come off with a damp microfiber? Thanks

Final day on this very special and limited edition Boxster. The 987 is a fine piece of machinery and the subtle extras make it about as good as it can possibly be. For those who can afford the time I would highly recommend a fly in and drive it home. I promise it will be a rewarding undertaking; you only live once!

  • nobrakes (seller) 3 months, 1 weekago

No DME report. This car has been babied. It has so much low end grunt I feel no compulsion to need to even approach redline. Other than oil which has been done annually regardless of miles, brakes and tires this car has only had one issue and that was a top malfunction and the controller was replaced. It is good to go.

  • urfealex (registered bidder) 3 months, 1 weekago

Is there a DME report on this car? Thanks in advance.

  • nobrakes (seller) 3 months, 1 weekago

@nobrakes note that the pages got mixed up in the submission process, maybe the pcar moderator can sort them in sequence???

  • nobrakes (seller) 3 months, 1 weekago

I posted some pages from the owner's manual that covers the sport exhaust, PASM, sport mode, sport suspension.

I love the use of the word "sporty", LOL

    @smsmd see reply below

  • nobrakes (seller) 3 months, 2 weeksago

@smsmd The top is in great shape. It is canvas and it doesn't take a lot of ups and downs to develop the stretch impressions. Every 986-987 Boxster I have had has those round marks across the center and I have had 5 of them. I am not sure what causes it, whether it is something between the headliner or something that presses down on it when it is under the hard boot. There are absolutely no rips, tears or thin spots on this top.

  • smsmd (registered bidder) 3 months, 2 weeksago

The top looks prety worn - are the linear marks on the sides through part of the fabric? I presume that you were not able to remove the spot on top

Rs60 does have a sport exhaust (it’s why it has 303hp rather than 295 of the standard S) but it is not valved. The sport button just changes the throttle response.

If you look under the car at the exhaust there are no vacuum lines or solenoids to activate any valves in the exhaust.

@opener yes, I do the two step button routine my self; no reason for stiff suspension during the stop light commute but a good reason for the ear candy.

  • opener (registered bidder) 3 months, 2 weeksago

I bought one of these in 2015. I also have a’14 Cayman S and a C8 Corvette. The RS60 is my favorite. It is a joy to drive with an unusual combination of great performance and comfort. I can’t imagine selling it.
BTW the Sport button on the dash activates the sport exhaust and sport suspension. The button next to it with the shock absorber icon disables the sport suspension. I often drive with the sport exhaust but not the sport suspension.
If you buy this Boxster, you will not be disappointed.

  • patco2927 (registered bidder) 3 months, 2 weeksago

@floman I owned an RS60 a number of years back. I am 6'4" and fit perfectly. WIthout a doubt, the best and most engaging Porsche I have ever driven and owned.

  • nobrakes (seller) 3 months, 2 weeksago

    @ChrisF thanks for the clarification!

  • ChrisF (registered bidder) 3 months, 2 weeksago

As a RS 60 owner, here's my understanding of the Sport Exhaust and associated button on these cars. First of all, Sport Exhaust was standard equipment on all RS 60 cars. The appearance of the button depends on whether the car has the optional Sport Chrono package. On cars without the Sport Chrono package (like mine), the button is the one with the dual tail pipe icon. On cars with the Sport Chrono package, like this one, the Sport button (in the exact same position as the exhaust button on the non-Sport Chrono cars) activates the Sport Exhaust.

    Hope this helps.

  • nobrakes (seller) 3 months, 2 weeksago

@urfealex I will add that the only non-routine service on the car was addressing a top malfunction which was repaired.

  • nobrakes (seller) 3 months, 2 weeksago

@urfealex most of the receipts through 2018 are from Hendricks Porsche in Columbia SC where the car was originally purchased. After moving to Long Island it was maintained by an Independent shop on the east end. In an earlier post I listed out the date, miles and service of each of the work orders we have in hand.

  • nobrakes (seller) 3 months, 2 weeksago

@worlddrivingchamp the window sticker (shown in the gallery) clearly lists "Sport Exhaust System" as standard equipment. That is one of the key elements that gives this car the power increase over a base "S".

I have had the tail pipe icon button you refer to on a 997 Carrera S but this is the first Boxster I have been around with electronic cut outs and it is actuated by the "sport" button as I described.

Unfortunately I screwed up my first attempt last week at the cold start video which would have demonstrated the exhaust note change at idle. I'll do that before the end of the auction; the car is now three deep in my shop waiting out the winter weather.

  • urfealex (registered bidder) 3 months, 2 weeksago

Do you have shop invoices for the work done by the first owner or did he/she do the work themselves? Thanks in advance.

  • worlddrivingchamp 3 months, 2 weeksago

You are correct, of course, about the operation of the Sport button.

  • worlddrivingchamp 3 months, 2 weeksago

@nobrakes I understand how the system that you describe operates.
But there is an actual Sport Exhaust button, an option that you pay for when ordering the car new. The button has an exhaust icon with two pipes. This car does not have that. Thus, it technically does not have the Sport Exhaust option. Check the Monroney Window sticker for this car and Sport Exhuast is not on it.

  • nobrakes (seller) 3 months, 2 weeksago

@worlddrivingchamp see my reply…. I’ll try to remember to take some pics of that section of the owners manual and post them next week.

  • nobrakes (seller) 3 months, 2 weeksago

It’s on the bottom row of buttons below the climate controls. It’s labeled “sport” and activates the cut outs and firms up the suspension. You can then press the shock absorber symbol button to return to normal suspension and sport exhaust.

  • worlddrivingchamp 3 months, 2 weeksago

The description says this car has Sport Exhaust.
There is no Sport Exhaust button where it should be.
    Please advise. Thank you.

@MiaBear8017 yes, this auction has a very reasonable reserve price for a limited edition model with moderately low miles like this one.

  • nobrakes (seller) 3 months, 2 weeksago

@floman I am 6'0 and my son is 6'3", neither of us have even thought about headroom as an issue so I would say you would have to 6'5"+ for it to be an issue.

  • nobrakes (seller) 3 months, 2 weeksago

@croy56 none of these pics show the scratch, the camera just does not pick it up. I will try again with some indoor lighting but it may be next week as it is not at my house this weekend.

Hello Pcar enthusiasts and welcome to the auction. This limited edition Boxster S is in stellar condition inside and out. It’s cold out there but this car has heated seats, a kick ass stereo and plenty of room for your luggage and traveling companion. I encourage you to fly in and drive it home! That’s what I would do!! I’ll be available through the comment section or by private message. If local to the DFW area come check it out. If not order up a PPI if so inclined; only to prove what you already know… you want it!
