We are pleased to present this collectible 2008 Porsche 987 Boxster S "RS 60 Spyder Edition" finished in GT Silver Metallic over a full Carrera Red natural leather interior.  Commemorating the Porsche Type 718 RS 60 that took victory in the 1960 12 Hours of Sebring, this special edition Boxster represents #1568 of only 1,960 examples produced in total, and approximately 800 examples for the U.S.  With increased horsepower, Sport Exhaust, Sport Chrono Package Plus, and Porsche Active Suspension Management (PASM) equipped from the factory, this limited-production model offers enhanced performance to match its namesake.  Showing approximately 61k miles on the odometer with routine maintenance and recent service, this RS 60 Spyder Edition is now being offered by its seller out of Georgia.

All RS 60 Spyder Edition Boxster’s are finished in GT Silver Metallic.  The exterior on this example is stated to be in great condition aside from a small wear mark on the red convertible top and a small scuff on the right rear fender above the wheel (detailed images are provided in the photo gallery). The right front fender is also said to have been refinished under prior ownership.  Distinguishing characteristics of this special edition include an aggressive Porsche SportDesign front valance, a black-framed windscreen, all-red taillight lenses, and 19” Sport Design wheels.  The seller reports approximately 70% tread remaining on the tires.

Inside, you will find a full Carrera Red natural leather interior that is stated to be in very nice condition. Exclusive RS 60 Spyder Edition features include an exposed instrument cluster, seatbelts in silver, stainless-steel door sills with RS 60 Spyder designations, and on the glove box, a numbered plaque displaying this car’s unique production number of #1568/1,960. Commanding an original MSRP of over $74k, this well-appointed Boxster also showcases the Bose High-End Sound Package, heated front seats, self-dimming mirrors & rain sensor, PCM 2.1 w/ extended navigation, the Bi-Xenon Headlamp Package, Porsche Windstop (deflector), automatic climate control, Sport Chrono Package Plus, and a remote 6-disc CD Changer. All gauges and electrical components are reported to be fully functional.

Power comes from a mid-mounted naturally aspirated 3.4 L flat-six engine that, as part of the RS 60 Edition, features a specially tuned Sport Exhaust System which helps amount to an output of 303 HP.  The rear wheels are driven through a 6-speed manual transmission that allows acceleration from 0-60 MPH in approximately 5 seconds.  Porsche Active Suspension Management (PASM) and wheel spacers are standard on this special edition and this particular example also features the Sport Chrono Package Plus. Stated to be in excellent running order and up to date on all routine maintenance with recent service covering new fluids, filters, a battery, and electric front trunk switch, this Boxster S is ready to be enjoyed by its next owner.

This sale will include a clean title.  Paying tribute to Porsche’s racing heritage while offering premium factory features and a 6-speed manual gearbox, this special edition Boxster S is an enthusiast’s dream come true.

@mbarnes916 Wish I could, but that fellow and his wife we’re about to embark on a nationwide tour in a motorhome more than two years when I bought the car, they were literally selling everything in the auction down to the dishes and linens, much less their Porsche, home, lawnmowers, three boats, you get the picture.

  • mbarnes916 (registered bidder) 3 years, 3 monthsago

@bradsbikes I bought the car from a 77-year-old enthusiast who is in the process of moving and was never able to find and provide the previous service records. He did assure me that he had had it properly serviced over the years that he owned it.

Can you ask the previous seller what dealership/indie that he had the car serviced at under his ownership? The dealer will gladly release those records. This gives bidders comfort in knowing they are bidding on a vehicle with no issues like bore scoring, IMS and the like.

  • bradsbikes (seller) 3 years, 3 monthsago

@mbarnes916 Sure don’t on either question. I’ve had it serviced twice at the shop that service my current two other Porsche’s as well as two others in the past. They’ve given it a good bill of health, last service in June 2020.

    Do you have a DME?

  • mbarnes916 (registered bidder) 3 years, 3 monthsago

Do you have more records or know where the vehicle has been serviced to get duplicate records?

  • bradsbikes (seller) 3 years, 3 monthsago

I’ve lowered my reserve because of the great activity on my car, if any serious bidders have any questions in the final hours, feel free to send me a note.

I owned pretty much the exact same car for 4 years and absolutely loved it.
The engine and suspension were perfect for cruising or spirited driving in the GA, NC mountains. Only issue I had was the CDR 24 head unit crapped out- who cares? Added a 997.2 turbo s cabriolet and a 914 2.0 to the herd and just didn’t drive it much, so I reluctantly sold it a few months ago. I miss it. Whoever winds up with this is going to be very happy. Good luck!

@Lesio the previous owner was in SC. The car had its 60k, according to the prior owner, and has had two services since, prior records are limited, manual is included.

  • Lesio (registered bidder) 3 years, 3 monthsago

Hi, could you explain why it did not pass emissions in GA two years ago?

@Pump993 Thanks for the comment, that was my understanding as well.

  • Pump993 (registered bidder) 3 years, 3 monthsago

The IMS issues for 2008 are extremely rare and over exaggerated in addition if you maintain the engine rev above 3000 rpm the likelihood of developing IMS problems is low

@bradsbikes The 2008 Boxster has an IMS bearing. 2009 was the first year to not have the IMS engine. And although it is the 3rd generation of the bearing, it still can fail. It is generally agreed that the 2006-2008 gen 3 bearing is the least prone to failure, but it still can fail.
Your RS60 is the setup I prefer; red interior, red top, 6 sp manual. About 1/3 were delivered in this spec.

    From the LN Engineering website:
With model year 2006 through 2008 Porsche 987 Boxster, Cayman, and 997 911 engines, the intermediate shaft was redesigned and used a larger 6305 bearing. However the oversized IMS bearing used by Porsche in M96 and M97 engines manufactured in and after the 2006 model year is larger than the IMS flange housing bore which prevents replacement of this bearing without complete disassembly of the engine. This also means that replacement engines manufactured and sold by Porsche for Boxster, Cayman, and 911 engines in or after the 2006 model year will have the larger non-serviceable IMS bearing.

@deltronprime Thanks for the comment, the IMS bearing is not an issue on a 2008 model. I did have to have it replaced on my 1999 Carrera 4 but not on this one. I do have records since I bought the car three years ago, I’ve had it serviced regularly, I bought the car from a 77-year-old enthusiast who is in the process of moving and was never able to find and provide the previous service records. He did assure me that he had had it properly serviced over the years that he owned it.

  • deltronprime 3 years, 3 monthsago
