IMHO, you don't need to offer anything regarding the tires. They are what they are and anybody bidding should take into account the possibility of needing new tires sooner than later in their bids.
All I want to read is absolute assurance that ALL the electrical gremlins are history.
I've had too many British sportscars to ever want to deal with electrical problems again!

@WRENCH.56 LOL, she made me lower the reserve and simultaneously scolded me when I told her I was going to give the new owner $500 as a tire concession upon delivery. I can’t win

If you win the auction and you want, I will throw in my Porsche tan baseball cap, my ceramic Porsche logo coffee mug (used just a few times) and the Porsche Boxster poster I have hanging in my garage. I honestly have no use for them after my car is gone and I think the new owner will enjoy these and honestly every time I see them they would only make me more bitter at my wife who said I can’t have 4 cars.

As a ski instructor you’ll understand that driving old cars on really old tires is kind of like hitting the bumps on sixties era 225 cm Downhill sticks.

Everybody out there will tell me I’m a fool for this, but I still drive my Jag XKE on 20 year old Michelin X Redlines with inner tubes!
They hold air and the rubber is so hard that I can brake the tail loose at will. I keep it below 90.
I’ve been stalling on ordering new tires until I pop for a set of old school Dunlop alloy race rims an inch or optionally two inches wider than my rims.
In the meantime, I’m having too much fun in the twistiest at almost legal speeds.

  • kenscott1966 (seller) 1 year, 8 monthsago

@WRENCH.56 The car has always been garaged, no issues holding tire pressure. If reserve is met I’m considering replacing the tires after the wire is receive. This is completely negotiable as long as the winner is reasonable.

  • WRENCH.56 (registered bidder) 1 year, 8 monthsago

FWIW, I’m with Funracer on this tire issue.
The two big questions in my mind are was the car garaged or perpetually parked outside and do the tires hold pressure?
If I wind up with this car, I’d probably drive home to northern NM in a heartbeat. I’d just be likely to observe something reasonably close to interstate speed limits though.
    No problema!

  • Funracer (registered bidder) 1 year, 8 monthsago

Don’t let the tire date thing scare you. Unless you are tracking this car or driving at ridiculously speeds for long periods of time these tires will be fine. I’d worry more about tread depth than age, especially in the rain. Modern tires are incredibly well made and Michelins are top of the line. I would not hesitate to drive this car home across the country if need be. But that’s me.

  • Quackbury (registered bidder) 1 year, 8 monthsago

@kenscott1966 There's a lot of information on the internet including from DOT and the NHSTA which says a tire is only 100% safe for 5 years regardless of tread depth. Environmental factors like UV light and ozone chemically degrade the rubber even though you can't see the damage until the tire starts cracking.

One of the big reasons for date codes on tires is to determine whether a tire is still safe. It's a common question for bidders to ask.

Now if you're talking about your 78 year old mother and the Camry she drives to Publix once a week at 40 mph there may be less of a concern with tire degradation. But a Boxster S that's going to be driven several hundred miles home by the successful buyer at highway speeds? Or taken to a HPDE? Different story.

Frankly I'm surprised the folks who service your car never mentioned this.

  • kenscott1966 (seller) 1 year, 8 monthsago

@Quackbury so was at my buddies house, got caught with the top down fried the radio. The car wouldn’t start because the battery was 6 years old. I replaced the battery and the car was fine. Other issues happened that were unrelated (air bag light went on and had to be checked ?) I had a short with my high beams that was corrected? There were a few things that happened in a short period of time but I think that was all back in 2018. If it were a problem I would have traded the car to a dealer and let them deal with it. The car has been terrific, we were planning on doing the stereo anyway, the car doesn’t have any electrical problems (that I am aware of) it’s also perfect mechanically (again that I am aware of) to be 100% transparent my mechanic at Euro imports said I will probably need to do the clutch at around 100k and suggested I consider doing the fly wheel at that time. For me that could be 2 years away. It’s not the first clutch I’ve had to put in an older car…..I think the tires are fine, good to know that if I end up keeping the car I shouldn’t replace them they are seem to be in good shape and have decent tread life and you’re the first person that has suggested replacement ?

Thanks for posting those service records.

  • Quackbury (registered bidder) 1 year, 8 monthsago

@kenscott1966 thank you. I am watching your auction on my phone and missed those.

So regardless of remaining tread the tires are 7 1/2 years old and need to be replaced based on age alone. That is helpful information for us to factor into bids. And likely precludes the winner from driving the car several hundred miles home. Not a deal killer but should impact the bids.

I would also like clarification on the wet interior and resulting electrical problems.

May I assume that the car does not have a wind blocker?

  • PATriumpher 1 year, 8 monthsago

@kenscott1966 Thanks for posting maintenance records. One stated "top was down and interior got wet" which appears to have prompted any number of other work orders referencing "Body Electrical" work. Can you provide any additional info on this wet interior incident and degree of severity? Thanks

  • kenscott1966 (seller) 1 year, 8 monthsago

@Quackbury date code on tires appears to be 4415, I think the picture show this

  • kenscott1966 (seller) 1 year, 8 monthsago

@WRENCH.56 I posted all the records, I had my oil changed every year 19 I think I did it with German imports. 20 and 21 I know I did with European Imports in St Pete. 22 I did it down the street at my local Porsche guy when I got home from CO. I’m not afraid of any questions or anyone that wants to test drive it. The car is solid and speaks for itself. I have done all suggested maintenance, in the end I have no problem keeping it. ??

Another request for maintenance records for the last 4 years. I think providing those will be important for many of us.

Also what are the date codes on all 4 tires? The fronts may "look fine" but be unsafe due to age. Any bidder is going to factor that into there offer.

Finally it's exceedingly rare to see a 987 Boxster S without a wind blocker. Do you have one? If so any reason it was not in the photos?

    Thank you.

  • WRENCH.56 (registered bidder) 1 year, 8 monthsago

    Beautiful Boxster!
I noticed that the carfax report indicates the last full service on 11-12-18 at 83,077 miles. The only other service indicated is a detail shop washing it and installing PPF.
Have you had any oil changes and/or other mechanical service since November of 2018?

  • kenscott1966 (seller) 1 year, 8 monthsago

@DeuceDeuceBravo 100% original paint, there are a few chips on the hood that I took picture of. Also I think a bird pooped on the trunk before I bought the car, as you can see by the picture it’s pretty much unnoticeable but if you’re polishing the car you will see the dime size irregularity. No leaks for sure (or at least that I know about) the car hasn’t been driven in the rain much but when I wash it I have no problems with leaking, I’m confident we’re good on that question. This car is good to roll, that said if I were keeping it I would put new rear tires on before the end of the year. Tires are probably 50% tread life left which means performance is good but not perfect.

  • DeuceDeuceBravo (registered bidder) 1 year, 8 monthsago

All original paint? Any leaks that need to be addressed?

    Beautiful ride

  • kenscott1966 (seller) 1 year, 8 monthsago

@PATriumpher I can do that. Just for the record I haven’t driven the car a lot, every time I do I wonder why I’m selling it. I’ve done oil changes every year with full synthetic oil. I did the breaks a few years ago at a local Porsche mechanic (not dealer). I did a new roof in 2019 and plugs and coils in 2021. Car runs fantastic, clutch feels fine. If I kept this car I would put new rear tires on before year end. The fronts seem fine. My wife wanted to listen to her I phone so we put in a new kenwood stereo with an equalizer and CD player.

@Sjmckim9 Sure, I’m in 33626, give me your contact info and we can take a spin anytime that it’s not raining. It’s an awesome car, I took a job as a ski instructor out west and will not be driving it from November - April. I am going to get an AWD that I can bring to Vail
