Finished in Black over a matching leather interior, this 2008 Porsche 987 Cayman S pairs a 6-speed manual transmission with its 3.4-liter flat-six engine. It also features the Sport Chrono Package without PCM, the Bose High-End Sound Package, and a host of track-focused modifications including a Fabspeed Supercup exhaust, Bilstein PSS9 coilovers, Tarrett Engineering sway bars, an IPD plenum throttle body kit, Sparco race seats, a roll cage, and more. Showing approximately 44k miles on the odometer, it is now being auctioned by its seller out of Florida.

This 987 is finished in Black and rides on a set of aftermarket 18” OZ Racing Lightweight Alleggerita wheels dressed in Pirelli P Zero tires from 2018. Compared to a standard Cayman, the “S” version can be identified by its red-painted brake calipers and dual exhaust outlets. The seller adds that paint protection film has been applied to the front end and a set of 19” Carrera Classic wheels will accompany the sale. Track use is noted, and additional images are provided in the gallery along with a clean CARFAX report.

Inside, the driver is situated within a Black standard leather interior fitted with Sparco Grid Q race seats, 6-point seatbelts, and a 1.75” Hergesheimer roll bar powder coated in red. Additionally, a Halotron fire extinguisher, Numeric Racing shifter, and leather racing steering wheel have been fitted. Some signs of wear are reported.

Power is provided by a naturally aspirated 3.4-liter flat-six replacement engine, driving the rear wheels through the original 6-speed manual transmission. The seller adds that the replacement engine has not undergone track use. Noteworthy service items are said to include the replacement of the water pump, clutch, slave cylinder, brake pads and rotors, spark plugs, motor mounts, accessory belt, and sway bar drop links. The following performance modifications have also been installed:

  • Race Development EVO MS Tune
  • V-Flow air intake
  • IPD plenum throttle body kit
  • New Pagid brakes
  • FVD stainless steel brake lines
  • Fabspeed Supercup exhaust
  • Vertex Auto catless headers
  • FVD deep sump oil kit
  • Bilstein PSS9 coilovers
  • Tarett Engineering front & rear sway bars
  • Toe links with bump steer
  • Upper shock monoball camber plate
  • FVD front & rear wheel spacers
  • Racing air filter

This sale will include a clean title.

The seller would like you to know: “I haven’t tracked this car for 3 years. Other than being sparingly driven on the highway, it's been garage-stored. Every part installed on this example is top-shelf, and it has been maintained & serviced by a Porsche racecar mechanic. Although the engine is not original to the car, the current replacement has no track mileage.”

    Hi Boatpix,
That motor should fit my car. That'll be awesome if you can get a hold of the 4.0 and shoe horn it to this car.

  • Boatpix (registered bidder) 3 months, 3 weeksago

    @slwags10 I concur and I'm a real buyer.

  • ronlibrea (seller) 3 months, 3 weeksago

Paint under the Plastidip is better than the rest of the car. I did it to protect from stone chips road and track. Paint overall still shines.

  • ronlibrea (seller) 3 months, 3 weeksago

I don't have original seats. Unfortunately, I am away for work and cannot show the car in person. Also auction ending soon.

  • Jennetic (registered bidder) 3 months, 3 weeksago

Do you have any info on how the paint looks under the plastidip? Sounds like a very… creative solution

  • ronlibrea (seller) 3 months, 3 weeksago

When I replaced the engine I didn't care about the mileage. My plan was to drive/track the car for 10k miles and then rebuild it. Three years has past and the car just sat in the garage. I contemplated on selling a few times but then always changed my mind. I also have other track cars that were cheaper although not as fun as this that I played with at the track. That's my honest answer to your inquiry.

  • ronlibrea (seller) 3 months, 3 weeksago

Is the front PPF or Paint/Plastidip? It appears in some photos to be paint.

  • slwags10 (registered bidder) 3 months, 3 weeksago

Auction nearing the close and several unanswered questions. I think the lack of info on the replacement motor is going to limit the upside of this auction. Bore scope or even accurate mileage report would have helped this seller. I am also a Florida buyer but wringing my hands on this Croc...

  • ronlibrea (seller) 3 months, 3 weeksago

Auction ends in a few hours!! Reserve is less than the value of the car itself. It is both street and track car. With the quality racing parts installed and Porsche racecar mechanic hourly labor, buyer is way ahead of the game. Plus the time and energy you have to spend to plan and build a quality track car like this. This car is built the way a track car should be.

  • iwaptr 3 months, 3 weeksago

Do you have the original seats.

Description states paint protection film was applied on the front of the vehicle. Is that the matte finish on the front end? If so, does it safely peel off and is the paint underneath undamaged? Thank you.

  • slwags10 (registered bidder) 3 months, 3 weeksago

Photo 76 - What is the fluid seen on the upper right portion (not sure if it is on the exhaust or what)? Is the Croc fluid free (floor) after a few days sitting in the garage? Thanks!

  • ronlibrea (seller) 3 months, 3 weeksago

The reserve amount of this car is lesser than the car's value itself. Plus you are getting the racing parts, cost of labor and time to build for free.

  • ronlibrea (seller) 3 months, 3 weeksago

Yes, original motor had FVD oil sump. Replacement engine has same FVD oil sump, nothing further done to it. New owner can install a deeper oil sump but then bottoming could be a problem. Or add whatever if they feel oil sump in car not adequate enough.

  • RJ80 (registered bidder) 3 months, 3 weeksago

M97 engines have known oiling system deficiencies on track. Did the original engine that blew use the FVD deep sump oil kit as well? Were any other preventive modifications used on the new engine to prevent it from similarly blowing up on track?

  • ronlibrea (seller) 3 months, 3 weeksago

This car is priced at a fraction it cost me to build from the ground up. No doubt with today's high prices between car, top shelf parts and Porsche race car mechanic hourly labor you'd need 6 figures to have a quality built car like this. With this Cayman S you go straight to the track. This is setup like a race car that you can drive on the road. Btw, Fabspeed exhaust sounds awesome. The Numeric shifter is short and smooth.

  • ronlibrea (seller) 3 months, 3 weeksago

    Hi Michael,
Yes, both driver and passenger side slide. Both sides have original seat belts and airbags are intact except for driver front airbag. Car comes with OEM steering wheel so that's an easy fix. All lights are functional including blinkers and horn. I wouldn't hesitate to drive this car for any length of time. Engine is stock with new timing belt. We purposely left it stock for reliability. Everything outside motor is new. Clutch, brakes, fluids, water pump, ACC belts are new. For complete highway driving safety, I would recommend swapping race tires with street tires. Tires on the OEM BBS wheels that comes with the car are track tires as well. Not that you can't drive with these tires on the road....in case it rains. it gets a little scary. I have put maybe 2000 to 3000 highway miles since motor install. I make it a point to drive it at least once or twice a month. Thanks

  • classic-michael (registered bidder) 3 months, 3 weeksago

Also when was engine installed and about how many miles after? Thanks

  • classic-michael (registered bidder) 3 months, 3 weeksago

Does the driver's seat slide or is it fixed? All lights working and blinkers? Do you think any problem driving this car on highway for 8+ hours?

  • ronlibrea (seller) 3 months, 3 weeksago

    Hi Joe,
No problem. I have to say this car handles like it is on rails. Sparco seats with 6 point belts keeps you planted and feeling secure. Very fun and fast car.

    Cheers!

  • RJ80 (registered bidder) 3 months, 4 weeksago

Wow, that roll bar really intrudes into driver and passenger head room.

  • ronlibrea (seller) 3 months, 4 weeksago

    Hi Michael,
Yes, all the gauges are functional including the a/c. A/C great after track day. Car is street legal. I'm away for the weekend but will get back to you sometime next week with belts and tire dates. Thank you

  • classic-michael (registered bidder) 3 months, 4 weeksago

Do all of the gauges work, AC work? Car is street legal? Date code on tires, date on race belts. Thanks

  • ronlibrea (seller) 3 months, 4 weeksago

Yes I have original steering wheel and seat belts are still in car. Unfortunately, don’t have the seats. In case you’re curious I also have original exhaust including catalytic converters and suspension.

  • Monty708 3 months, 4 weeksago

Do you have the original seats and steering wheel and seat belts?

  • ronlibrea (seller) 3 months, 4 weeksago

Blew the original motor. Instead of rebuilding, I opted for a used but no track miles motor. Thank you

  • ronlibrea (seller) 3 months, 4 weeksago

OEM seat belt was not fasten, otherwise no background noise. All dash warning lights off. Somehow my mechanic was able to rid of it. Every once in a while I think the TPS would come on but can be easily turned off. No TPS warning lights with the original BBS Porsche wheels that comes with the car. Thank you

  • PorscheGeek (registered bidder) 3 months, 4 weeksago

Great looking Cayman S….what happened to the original engine ? Money shift ? Good luck

  • slwags10 (registered bidder) 3 months, 4 weeksago

With the aftermarket wheels and racing belts, were you able to do away with dash lights (TPS) and warnings? I hear some background in the test drive video, but thinking that's just due to no belts fastened...

  • ronlibrea (seller) 4 monthsago

The replacement motor came out of an 2008 Boxster S. Definitely used. However, engine was completely serviced. Belts, water pump, oil change, motor flushed, tuned for the track, etc. Unfortunately, I couldn't tell you what the mileage at the time of purchased. I didn't care about the mileage as this is a trackcar. My plan was to track the car and later on have work done to it if necessary. However, I never again got to track the car. IMS on these cars are not problematic compare to 996s. That's not to say that the previous owner did not replace it. I left whatever was in it.

  • DoubleBlindApex 4 monthsago

Please provide more details for the replacement engine? Was it a new or used engine? If used, how many miles were on it when installed? What was the odometer reading when the engine was replaced? What type of IMS bearing is in the engine?
