A tribute to the legendary Ford race car that took the top three positions at the 1966 24 Hours of Le Mans, this 2008 Superformance GT40 MKII, chassis P2210, wears the iconic blue and orange Gulf Oil livery and is powered by a fuel-injected Ford Windsor V8 stroker producing around 550 HP. Constructed over a steel monocoque chassis with a steel-pressed roof, this Superformance GT40 is equipped with Bilstein coilovers, Wilwood brakes, air conditioning, a rearview camera system, a Holley Sniper electronic fuel-injection system, and a Bundle of Snakes stainless steel exhaust system. Remaining under the care of its original owner, this Superformance GT40 MKII is now being offered at auction by its seller out of Delaware showing just over 5k miles on the odometer.

The monocoque unibody chassis is constructed from electro galvanized steel with a pressed steel roof, and is said to be an exact reproduction of the original GT40 race car body. This example wears the iconic Gulf Oil livery used on the 1968-69 Le Mans-winning cars, finished in Gulf Powder Blue (P030-8013) and Marigold (P030-3393), with painted #7 roundels. Equipment includes a “gurney bubble” in the driver’s side roof to accommodate a racing helmet, encapsulated headlights, side plexiglass windows with pop-out vents, a ¾” thick plexiglass bulkhead window to reduce noise, polished bullet-style door mirrors, dual rear air intakes, a clamshell hood and engine cover, a polished fuel filler, and integrated dual chrome exhaust tips. The seller reports that the front clamshell was refinished due to underside scratches and clear coat lifting from prior paint protection film installation. The 17” BRM wheels are finished in matching orange, wearing knock-off hubs with custom GT40 hub covers, and are mounted with Goodyear Eagle F1 tires. An additional set of matching 15” Hallibrand wheels with Avon tires are said to accompany the sale.

The cabin features twin fixed-back racing seats with stainless steel ventilation grommets and Willans harnesses, upholstered in black Alcantara, which have been modified to accommodate taller drivers. Amenities include a removable three-spoke Monolita steering wheel with a vintage-style GT40 horn button, Smiths instrumentation, air conditioning, dash-mounted rocker switches, a roof-mounted rear camera system with the screen at the base of the windscreen, an Alcantara-wrapped center console, GT40-branded floor mats, and a carpeted rear bulkhead. The seller reports that the gauge tags are included but have yet to be installed, and the fuel gauge reads at ½ to protect the Holley EFI system.

This Superformance GT40 MKII is powered by a Performance Engineering Ford Windsor 427 V8 with a forged steel crankshaft, forged steel h-beams, aluminum forged pistons, a custom-ground 600 lift hydraulic roller camshaft, Air Flow Research CNC ported aluminum heads, and Edelbrock Victor JR. intake manifold, MSD ignition, and a ceramic-coated Bundle of Snakes center-exit exhaust system. Dyno results show an output of 556 HP and 525 lb.-ft of torque, which is sent to the rear wheels through an RBT 5-speed manual transaxle. A Holley Sniper electronic fuel injection system was added in 2021. The suspension is fitted with Bilstein adjustable coilovers with H&R springs at all four corners, and stopping power is derived from vented discs with Wilwood brake calipers at all four corners. The seller reports that routine maintenance has been conducted throughout their ownership.

This sale will include owner’s manuals, the original window sticker, associated literature, and an additional set of 15” Hallibrand wheels.

Today's the final day of the auction so please feel free to ask any questions you might have about the car. This vehicle has been a wonderful sight in my garage and the experiences over the last 12 years have been priceless.
A favorite was a time when filling it up, a young boy asked if he could take a picture of the car. I said sure, why don't I take a picture with you in it. Seconds later he was sitting in the driver's seat smiling ear-to-ear. Probably should have said, why don't you get in front of the car so you can get in the picture!

@EnzosDad Thank you, my friend. Honesty integrity, words to live by, words that describe you.

  • Manos411 (seller) 1 year, 7 monthsago

@wanna123 thank you for the question. Every one of the logos such as Girling Gulf firestone etc. are all vinyl and removable. The round white bubbles and the #7 are under the clearcoat.
A company called Priceline digital has the full complement of decals that can be ordered along with a different number to replace the existing ones.

Met the seller after he bought a super rare AMG from me two years ago. We started as "seller" and "buyer" kind of thing but became friends, thanks to his integrity and dedication for the car hobby.

His love for this particular car is unrivaled. Open checkbook , "money is not an issue" to keep it in top running condition. I have seen only a handful of GT40s sell recently, almost never on the hands of their original owners. It wasn't easy for him to decide selling his baby.

If you are looking for a beautiful, SUPER FAST and close to "perfect" GT40 as you can get without standing in line for a year (maybe more?) then this is it. I know I would've taken it off his hands if I could afford it.

@Manos411 Can you elaborate on what is removable and what isn't in regards to the stickers?

  • Manos411 (seller) 1 year, 7 monthsago

@racedeck Thank you for the question, the decals are vinyl and over the paint.

  • racedeck (registered bidder) 1 year, 7 monthsago

Are the decals painted or under clear coat?

  • Manos411 (seller) 1 year, 7 monthsago

@racedeck Thank you for the bid.
You are correct, as far as I know there are only two in the world MKII SPF Gulf livery. The other is in Auckland, New Zealand.
The MKII style was personally much more appealing, as was the Gulf color scheme. Since #6 was an MKI, it seemed appropriate to have lucky #7 for a Gulf MKII.

  • racedeck (registered bidder) 1 year, 7 monthsago

@Tmort - looks good… though I believe there was never a MK2 in Gulf Livery back in the day?

  • Tmort (registered bidder) 1 year, 7 monthsago

You can’t beat the gulf livery!

    This is just terrific.

  • P1Exotics (registered bidder) 1 year, 7 monthsago

The power to weight ratio on these cars are nearly equal to that of modern day road-going Ferraris. We spent some time speaking with one of the founders of Superformance at Laguna Seca and were beyond impressed with their creation. We sure hope to have the chance to take one of these GT40s out on track some day!

Best of luck to all the bidders. These cars are truly remarkable.

Good morning and welcome to the auction of my 2008 Superformance GT 40. I've owned this car since new and have enjoyed it for the last 14 years. From the mileage, you can see that I don't get an opportunity to drive it as much anymore. I will be available over the next seven days to answer any questions, at least once a day and consistently near the close. Thank you for looking and bidding. Best wishes.
