Offered for auction is this 2009 Mercedes-Benz R230 SL65 AMG finished in Iridium Silver Metallic over a Galapogos Gray Exclusive Leather interior. Representing the 5th generation of Mercedes-Benz SL-Class roadster, the R230 SL65 AMG was the range-topping model of its time featuring a 6.0L V12 Biturbo engine producing over 600 HP. Delivered new from Mercedes-Benz of New Orleans, this SL65 AMG commanded an original sticker price of over $197k and also features an upgraded Renntech carbon-fiber air intake system and ECU tune. This SL has been cared for by the same owner since new and is now being offered for auction by its seller out of Louisiana showing just over 11k miles on the odometer.

The bodywork is finished in Iridium Silver Metallic (775U) and features an AMG Styling Package, which equips a revised front spoiler, finned rear diffuser, unique side skirts, and a rear lip spoiler. Other details include bi-xenon headlights with cornering illumination, Parktronic parking sensors, fog lamps, fender vents, and quad exhaust outlets. The power-folding retractable hardtop includes a panoramic glass roof panel and can be raised or lowered in as little as 16 seconds. The seller reports the front bumper has been refinished for cosmetic purposes and notes a small chip in the windshield as well as some touched-up scratches on the rear bumper and a small imperfection in the front left wheel well. Detailed images are provided in the gallery along with a clean CARFAX report. This SL65 rides on split-spoke 19″ AMG wheels dressed in Continental tires from 2017.

The cabin is trimmed in Galapogos Gray Exclusive Leather and features 12-way power-adjustable heated and ventilated AMG sport seats, which include pneumatic triple lumbar support with massage functionality, multi-contour seatbacks, active side bolsters, and Airscarf neck-warming. AMG equipment consists of carbon fiber inlays, aluminum door sills with AMG badging, an AMG-branded instrument cluster, and an AMG leather-wrapped multi-function steering wheel with aluminum shift paddles. Driver’s amenities include automatic dual-zone climate control, a COMAND infotainment system with navigation and Bluetooth connectivity, a Harman Kardon stereo system, and a Designo Alcantara Alpaca Gray headliner. A Passport radar detector system has been equipped with controls in the center console, and an aftermarket rearview camera has been integrated into the factory head unit.

Power is derived from a 6.0L Biturbo M275 V12 engine, which produced up to 604 HP and 738 lb.-ft of torque when new. The rear wheels are driven through a 5-speed AMG Speedshift automatic transmission and an AMG limited-slip differential, which allows the SL65 AMG to reach 60 MPH in as little as 3.7 seconds with an electronically governed top speed of 155 MPH. Performance features include Mercedes Active Body Control (ABC) with driver-selectable ride height control and automatic speed-sensitive lowering, speed-sensitive hydraulic power steering, and 6-piston front and 4-piston rear brakes with perforated and vented discs. A Renntech carbon-fiber air intake system and ECU have also been installed for a claimed increase of 49 HP and 102 lb.-ft of torque. CARFAX shows a history of dealership maintenance since new, and a recent service was carried out in preparation for the sale. Invoices are provided for reference in the gallery.

This sale will include a set of keys, service documents, owner’s manuals, and a clean title. A luxurious grand tourer with twin-turbocharged V12 power, this SL65 AMG is ready to please its next owner.

@Nolasport understood..orange peels are slippery and I dont need to fall again like 5 weeks ago as I am still nursing a stolen foot, lolThank you for disclosing, that is super professional of you sir..

@KvN thanks for the early morning bid and happy Sunday to you as well! Please see the video imbedded in the listing to see that the top is in full working condition, yes!

  • Nolasport (seller) 2 years, 2 monthsago

@nosubstitute4porsche I do not have any invoices for anything related to the front bumper, no. I can tell you however that I believe the front bumper has been refinished as there are minor differences in orange peel present in the bumper as opposed to the rest of the car.

  • KvN (registered bidder) 2 years, 2 monthsago

@Nolasport happy Sunday to you folks.

Given the previous issues with the convertible roof mechanism damaging itself (bent spar), is everything in working order with the c.top now?

    Cheers, KvN

hi seller.. thank you for bringing this car here. Just a quick question. Do you have an invoice for the front bumper being refreshed/repainted? If the color of the front bumper is "spot on" how than does "it appear that it has been refinished" no disrespect just checking... best

  • KvN (registered bidder) 2 years, 2 monthsago

@Nolasport many thanks for the swift & detailed response. Appreciated. Unfortunate that the AMG carbon engine panel isn’t available.

Reference your own Porsche pedigree, note I run a ‘12 997.2 TTM at 25k km to which I’ve added a Cobb, Eurofab (stage 2) exhaust, Numeric Racing wheel spacers & Numeric Racing Short shifter (full kit)) plus a few other bits and bobs.

    GLWA.

@KvN Thankyou for the comment on the vehicle as she sure is a looker! It truly is amazing as to what these vehicles had to offer back in 2008 and how well they have aged with the 2009 models being the first of the "facelifted" cars with upgraded lights and bumpers. Coming from the Porsche world, the correlation between the more modern Mercedes AMG and Porsche GT models seems as if they are somewhat beginning to align. People are now seeing what these cars have to offer and how they can become an asset over time, something that has been present in the Porsche community for years now...

$200K+ for a car of this stature new is a hell of a price to pay, but on the secondary market a properly sorted car like this one still has all of that six figure presence and grunt, and it certainly shows out on the road with this beast! No matter what you paid for a used one...

Anyways... I'll start off answering all of the questions supplied by saying that I have displayed every ounce of information and documentation that I was given from the long-time owner. I know how important some of these items can be as a dealer and I exhausted every ounce of effort pulling what I have together. What I have is what I have and I appreciate everyone keeping that in mind.

Everything mechanically and electronically whether from the factory or aftermarket is in proper working condition without a doubt!

I do not have an invoice on the Renntech install, nor do I have any knowledge of it (location, time, mileage etc.).

The renntech ECU retails for $2,550 and the airbox retails for $4,980.

As far as the Passport system and camera goes, I do not have any invoices. BUT, I can tell you that they were both installed by Techni-Car in Florida. (See sticker in door jamb via Photo#84 in the gallery)

Again, yes! All three aftermarket components of the vehicle are functioning without issues! I will have the auction manager add a photo of the backup camera as well to help clear the air on that one as well.

I do not have the OEM engine cover.

All paper service records that I have can be found via the gallery. Thus ranging from the most recent invoice, performed by my shop, where every required maintenance item was underwent in preparation for the sale. On the other end you can see some items via the carfax such as a transmission service in 2018 @9,600 miles that was carried out by the dealer here in New Orleans.

Yes, the front bumper appears to have been repainted although I have no knowledge of it and the carfax shows clean. One could only assume it was painted purely for cosmetic purposes and moving forward the paint match is spot on, see the photos in the gallery...

Paint meter readings to follow, Happy Friday to all and bring on the bids!

Folks, I have just asked the Seller to respond to these questions:

    “Dear Sir/Madam,

    A fine vehicle… I have a number of questions:

Please confirm everything is working as designed and as installed?

When was the Renntech system put in?

Where is the Invoice for same?

    Cost?

    Ditto Passport system.

    Ditto Reverse camera system.

All 3 additions working without issue?

Per AMG, is the OEM carbon engine cover with the engine builder’s Name still with the vehicle?

Are there any other service records from Owner 1?

You state the front bumper cover has been “refinished “. Do you mean repainted?

    Why?

Evidence this; is there any other Paintwork?
    Where?
    Why?

Can you please provide Paint Meter readings?

Many thanks and good luck with your Auction.

    Cheers,
    KvN”
