We are pleased to offer this 2009 Mercedes-Benz R230 SL 65 AMG Black Series finished in Steel Grey Metallic over a Black AMG Exclusive leather interior.  Taking the brutal performance of the range-topping SL 65 AMG to another level, the highly exclusive Black Series was debuted in 2008 with lightweight carbon fiber body panels, aggressive aerodynamics, a fixed roof, and larger turbochargers for the 6.0L V12 engine.  Limited to 350 examples in total with only 175 designated for the U.S. market, the Black Series remains among the rarest and most sought-after AMG models to date.  Originally a California car, this 2009 example was sold new from Fletcher Jones Motorcars of Newport Beach and is reported to be one of only 8 cars produced in Steel Grey Metallic. It has been cared for by only two owners since while receiving routine maintenance through authorized Mercedes-Benz dealers.  This SL 65 AMG Black Series is now being offered for auction by its seller out of California with just over 11k miles showing on the odometer.

This Black Series was ordered in the rarely seen color of Steel Grey Metallic and weighs in around 550 lbs. less than a standard SL 65 AMG, using lightweight carbon composite for the front and rear aprons, vented hood, fenders, trunk lid, and fixed roof panel.  The wide fenders and rocker panels are reminiscent of Mercedes’ iconic DTM race cars, while the rear wing raises automatically at 75 MPH and works in conjunction with the large underbody diffuser to promote downforce.  The staggered 19”/20” AMG light-alloy wheels come dressed in a set of Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 tires, detailed images are provided in the gallery along with a clean CARFAX report.

The Black AMG Exclusive leather interior is accented by carbon fiber trim and comes fitted with 12-way power-adjustable AMG Sports Seats with heating, ventilation, and three-position memory as well as massage feature, automatic height-adjusting headrests, multi-contour seatbacks, and pneumatic side bolsters.  Other details include an Alcantara headliner, AMG floor mats, AMG door entrance plates, and an AMG leather-trimmed sport steering wheel with aluminum shift paddles and multifunction display controls.  An emblem on the gear selector reads “USA one of 175”.

The Black Series carries a modified version of the standard SL 65 AMG’s 6.0L V12 Biturbo engine, featuring larger turbochargers, modified induction, and revisions to the ignition and fuel maps.  As much as 661 HP and 738 lb.-ft of torque are sent to the rear wheels through a 5-speed AMG Speedshift Plus automatic transmission paired with an AMG limited-slip differential, allowing acceleration from 0-60 MPH in approximately 3.5 seconds and a top speed of nearly 200 MPH. Standard performance features include AMG-modified Active Body Control suspension, speed-sensitive power steering, and AMG brakes with 6-piston calipers in front and 4-piston calipers in the rear, paired with cross-drilled and vented discs.  Maintenance history is said to be available dating back to the original purchase and CARFAX shows a lifetime of service carried out by authorized Mercedes-Benz dealers in California.  A major preemptive 80k-mile service was completed by Mercedes-Benz of Foothill Ranch in February of 2021, and the last recorded service was performed by Mercedes-Benz of Laguna Niguel in December of 2021.
