Up for auction is this 2009 Mercedes-Benz R171 SLK 55 AMG finished in Black over a black leather interior.  Representing the high-performance version of the Mercedes R171 compact luxury roadster, the SLK 55 AMG comes standard with aggressive body styling, 18” wheels, larger brakes, lowered suspension, and a 5.4 L V8 engine.  Reported to have been purchased by its current owner from an authorized Mercedes-Benz dealership earlier in 2020, this SLK is now being offered out of New York with approximately 56k miles showing on the odometer.

The Black paint on this SLK is stated to be in very good condition except for a couple of light scratches on the trunk lid and rear bumper as well as some minor road going wear on the front end (detailed images are provided in the photo gallery).  The headlight lenses are also said to have been restored to like-new standards under the current ownership. This AMG model distinguishes itself from the standard SLK by its revised body styling including a redesigned front apron with larger air intakes and gills, repositioned fog lights with chrome accents, quad-tip exhaust, and 18” AMG twin-spoke light-alloy wheels.  Brand new tires were installed by a Mercedes dealer in 2020 and a couple of the wheels are said to have been refinished prior to the seller’s purchase.

Inside, this Mercedes sports a black Nappa leather interior featuring a perforated 3-spoke leather steering wheel and a premium Harman Kardon Logic 7 Surround Sound System.  Other factory options include the Interior Light Package, power-operated seats with heating and memory, automatically dimming mirrors, an Airscarf neck-warming system, Thermotronic automatic climate control, COMAND APS with 6-Disc DVD changer, Bi-Xenon headlights with a cornering function, the headlamp cleaning system, and windscreen wipers with a rain sensor.  The interior is said to be in pristine condition, and the seller confirms all gauges and accessories to be fully functional including the Varioroof power-operated hardtop.

This top-of-the-line SLK 55 is powered by a 5.4 L M113 V8 engine hand-assembled by AMG in Affalterbach, Germany.  355 HP and 376 lb.-ft of torque are sent to the rear wheels through a 7-speed automatic 7G-Tronic transmission with AMG Speedshift, allowing for a 0-60 time of approximately 4.9 seconds.  Other mechanical features exclusive to this AMG version include a lowered and stiffened suspension, an additional engine oil cooler, and larger disc brakes with ventilated rotors.  All maintenance is said to have been carried out by authorized dealers throughout the lifetime of the car, and the seller reports that the valve cover gaskets and crank position sensor were replaced shortly before their purchase in June of 2020.

This sale will include a set of 2 keys, the original books, and a clean title.  Offering an ideal balance of sport and luxury from a compact roadster, this SLK 55 AMG is just waiting to be enjoyed by a new owner.

@minijag its on the Carfax man. if you want to be picky on well-kept 10 + year old cars then you will be looking for a long time. If you aren't interested I would say get off the guy's auction. You wouldn't want someone whining on your page if you were selling a car.

@mkdrive thanks; I've had 5 convertibles; I had the launch edition of the MB SL500; an SLK 280 for my wife; the Porsche; 2 Miatas; I certainly have some experience to base my comments on. I'm not disagreeing with what the seller said - I'd just like to see the records!!!! and I am not the one who is going to call the dealers to get them

@minijag I have had many Mercedes convertibles, the tops commonly creak over bumps. Perhaps you aren't familiar but seems like a nice upfront seller. This car should do well.

@Mezgerman thanks! obviously everyone has their own opinion and we all have a right to bid or not bid; I bought a lovely 2008 Porsche 911 Carrera Cabriolet from PCA Dec 2019 - all service records were disclosed; I just think you would get higher bids (and mine too!) if you had done that; but, again, maybe I'm wrong. sorry if I'm making a mountain out of the proverbial .... I really do like the car though

@minijag When I said it makes a noise it isn't a loud one. My 996 makes more noise over some bumps. I find it hard to believe that any convertible hard top doesn't make some kind of a noise when going over bumps at speed. The design of them leads to this. The car was gone over my MB when I got it and the service done was listed. Valve cover gaskets, a hose and the crank sensor was replaced. Of course the fluids were changed and new Michelin Pilot Sports were put on. You have every right not to bid. I also know when to take my car to the Dealer.

@Mezgerman thanks; when I made my comment I was full aware of the documented service records in the Car-Fax; IMHO - burden is not on me to get the records from the dealers (never heard of that before). but maybe I'm just wrong; anyways - absent the records, I cant bid on a car that I otherwise really like. My MB has about 50k miles on it - doesnt "rattle" when it goes over a big bump- if it did I'd take it to the dealer to make sure nothing was loose or wrong, but again that's just me. GLWA

  • Mezgerman (seller) 3 years, 3 monthsago

Forgot to add that there are 17 documented service records stated in the Car Fax. I'm sure if you are concerned you could call the dealer, they are very helpful, thanks.

  • Mezgerman (seller) 3 years, 3 monthsago

@minijag It rattles when you go over a big bump at speed, as stated. Most cars do that. As far as service, its been well maintained. The only way to be sure about a car is to have a PPI done. I welcome you to do so.

  • minijag (registered bidder) 3 years, 3 monthsago

"all maintenance is said to have been carried out by authorized dealers throughout the life..." But there is a real dearth of anything from about 14k miles up to the present; when you put a car up for sale why cant you get the records in advance? I'm sure the dealers would provide you with a copy if you just ask; unless I missed it I didnt see anything indicating the MB service for A, B, C? at 15k....miles was performed. and if it rattles going over a bump, has anyone checked to see what is causing that rattle? how much tread life on the tires?... so many questions; I would love to bid but there seems to be just a general lack of documentation. - maybe that's why the bids to this point are so low. just IMHO

@stockman As for engine leaks, there are none. The car is in excellent mechanical order as it has been dealer serviced.

  • Mezgerman (seller) 3 years, 3 monthsago

@stockman The car rides nicely with no leaks. If you hit a bump at speed you get rattle. the top performs like it should. Thanks for looking.

  • stockman (registered bidder) 3 years, 3 monthsago

@Mezgerman Are there any rattles or sounds coming from then top?
Also, have you noticed any leaks or items that should be address?
    Looks like a beautiful car!

Hello, my name is Dan and I am the seller. I will answer any questions you have as quickly as possible. The car drive rides and drives astounding. The power and handling is close to that of my 996 Turbo. Thanks for looking at the auction.
