We are pleased to offer this 2009 Porsche 997.2 Carrera 4S Coupe finished in Basalt Black Metallic over a black interior.  For the 2009 model year, Porsche introduced the second generation of the 997 with updated technology, revised styling, and new engines with direct fuel injection.  The all-wheel-drive models also gained a distinctive rear reflector band connecting the two taillights.  This 2009 example was ordered with a 6-speed manual transmission, leather Comfort Seats, Dynamic Cornering Lights, 19” Turbo wheels, the Bose High-End Sound Package, and Sport Chrono Package Plus. Acquired by the current owner from Porsche of Huntsville in 2017, this Carrera 4S has been driven sparingly, dealer serviced and is now being offered for auction out of New York with approximately 27k miles showing on the odometer.

This 997.2 comes finished in Basalt Black Metallic and rides on optional 19” Turbo wheels.  Updates for the second-generation 997 include a revised front fascia with larger air inlets, new LED taillights, and larger exterior mirrors.  The left rear wheel has been professionally refinished and some minor signs of road-going wear are noted on the hood as well as a small imperfection on the right side of the rear bumper.  Detailed images are provided in the photo gallery along with a clean CARFAX report.

Inside, this Carrera 4S features a black interior with heated and power-operated leather Comfort Seats. Other amenities include Dynamic Cornering Lights, a Bluetooth phone interface, a navigation module for PCM, an XM radio receiver, and the Bose High-End Sound Package.  The cabin shows to have been very well maintained and an image of the complete factory specifications list is provided in the gallery.

This Carrera 4S carries a naturally aspirated 3.8L flat-six engine featuring direct fuel injection and an output of up to 385 HP and 310 lb.-ft of torque.  All four wheels are driven by way of a 6-speed manual transmission, allowing the 4S to accelerate from 0-60 MPH in approximately 4.5 seconds while reaching a top speed of 185 MPH.  The optional Sport Chrono Package Plus allows the driver to optimize engine performance characteristics and PASM suspension settings with the press of a button.  Under the current ownership, the car has been maintained by Porsche Gold Coast with the last recommended service completed in 2018.

This sale will include the original owner’s manuals, window sticker, tools, a car cover, a set of two keys, and a clean title.

@BlackLab Agreed. But living in California (sigh….) means any alteration of the emissions controls is a deal breaker.

@BigDam Fortune favours the bold. The Porsche Chronograph auction looks like a good low risk auction for you!

  • BigDam (registered bidder) 2 years, 5 monthsago

Lack of a guarantee or even a quick inspection to confirm the presence of emissions control equipment (catalytic converters and the like) create too much risk. Too bad, otherwise it checked the boxes. Good luck everyone.

@alal All i have in terms of service history has been posted.

  • BlackLab (seller) 2 years, 5 monthsago

@alal I can confirm it has recently passed NYS inspection (6/18/21). Maybe some of the PCar community can verify if that would confirm catalytic converters and emissions intact, but I would think so.

  • alal (registered bidder) 2 years, 5 monthsago

Lastly, the service interval for sparkplugs for this 997 is 60,000 miles or every 4 years, what ever comes first. Do you have records of this being completed?

  • alal (registered bidder) 2 years, 5 monthsago

@BlackLab Thanks for clarifying. Can you confirm that the catalytic converters are still intact and this would pass emissions testing?

  • Jfs301 (registered bidder) 2 years, 5 monthsago

@BlackLab I saw this car late summer in the area. This car is super clean and such an eye catcher. We all know that the 4s body, particularly from the rear view, is intoxicating. The 997.2 4s is a Swiss Army Knife Porsche for those looking for a classic Air Cooled car, but want the modern attributes of current cars. Think about it…. It is an Air Cooled sized body plus a bit, it has the Air Cooled tight feel, but with classic/ contemporary lines and modern amenities and performance. Lastly it is a 4s! Cars of this vintage in this condition are unicorns. Good luck bidders (my garage is already full).

@alal I am embarrassed to admit that I was not aware of the Tubi exhaust. It was obviously the prior owner and unfortunately I have no records of the work he did. I'd be happy to investigate anything I possibly can on the car today and share photos/videos. I will be attentive and responsive all day today.

  • BlackLab (seller) 2 years, 5 monthsago

@Rednine2028 There is a hairline fracture in the reflector. There is also some moisture that has collected behind the reflector, which may or may not be a result of the fracture. It appears this is not uncommon (https://rennlist.com/forums/997-forum/1099955-997-2-rear-reflector-strip-moisture.html).

  • alal (registered bidder) 2 years, 5 monthsago

@BlackLab Picture 102 indicates that there is an aftermarket exhaust made by Tubi? Can you provide more detail like whether there is still the emission equipment like catalytic converters present.

Car looks great. Is the center light bar damaged at all? The right side of it looks to have a crack in photos 42 and 45. Could just be the angle but wanted to confirm.....

@Armo Just posted the detailed service records.

Sorry - saw the DME report -

  • Armo (registered bidder) 2 years, 5 monthsago

Please share the 2017 service details from Porsche of Roslyn. Did they run a DME report?
    Thanks

Apologies again, voice to text, very different from all the older Air-cooled Targa’s I previously owned.

  • sportscarguy3 (registered bidder) 2 years, 6 monthsago

    A decent 997. 4S
My first water cooled Porsche was a 2005 Carrera S very different from all the air cooled target as I owned previously
Put a fab speed muffler bypass pipe and fab speed cold air intake, an aftermarket wing, keeping all the factory parts, and it was a hell of a Porsche
At 27K miles this good looking Porsche seems like a great way to get started in the water cooled Porsche market
    Good luck to all

More pics posted with meter readings and close-ups on imperfections. I would also note there is a very small (could be mistaken for small mosquito) chip in the center of the windshield. it is not through the glass. Tire date codes are 0314 and 0714.

@Armo Thanks for the suggestion on pointing out meter readings with locations on the car. We will repost pictures that make it clear, and add close-up photos of the imperfections tomorrow. We will also add photos of tire date codes (but assume she needs some new treads). You are correct on service history and will share the details on the 9/2017 service @ Porsche of Roslyn. I do not have paperwork on the service history from 2014 (as that was under the prior owner). I did call Porsche of Huntsville when I bought the car, to verify the vehicle was up to date on Porsche recommended service/maintenance/campaigns and obviously anyone can do the same. For future questions, I will likely be able to respond each evening, as the day job keeps me busy.

  • Armo (registered bidder) 2 years, 6 monthsago

Looking at the CarFax it appears the car was serviced twice from 12/2009. First on 8/2014 @ 15,672 miles and then on 5/2017 @ 24,463. Do you have any detailed service records for this period? Have the plugs been replaced? Yearly oil service? Code date on tires?

  • Armo (registered bidder) 2 years, 6 monthsago

Please identify the location of the paint meter readings. Please take more pictures and point out the areas you noted in the write showing road-going wear on the hood as well as small imperfection on the right side of the rear bumper. The reflections make it difficult to see the imperfections. Beautiful car! Thanks.

    Good evening everyone,

I will try to respond to any questions as promptly as possible. Please note I have included in the auction a new Carrera emblem for the rear deck. The current one was snagged and a small piece broke off the “C” while it was being hand washed. It’s a relatively easy repair, but I chose to leave for the new owner for full disclosure. Thanks, good luck and enjoy the bidding!
