One of the most desirable 997s of all, the 2009 Turbo marks a transitional model year featuring the original 3.6L Mezger engine paired with the second-generation interior and updated PCM system of the 997.2. This Cabriolet version comes equipped with a 6-speed manual transmission and wears Basalt Black Metallic paint over a Black and Sand Beige leather interior. In addition to the factory optioned limited-slip differential and Sport Chrono Package, this 997 was upgraded when new with an AWE Performance Power Package including a GIAC performance tune, high-flow exhaust, and improved intercoolers.  Accompanied by a Porsche Certificate of Authenticity showing an original sticker price of over $150k, this 2009 Turbo Cabriolet is now being offered for auction on behalf of its original owner out of New Jersey showing approximately 22k miles on the odometer.

This 997 comes finished in Basalt Black Metallic with a matching cabriolet top, red brake calipers, and 19” 911 Turbo wheels dressed in new Michelin Pilot Sport 4S tires. The lower front lip spoiler was previously replaced, and paint correction was completed in October of 2021 followed by an application of Xpel Fusion ceramic coating and paint protection film. Additional images are provided in the gallery along with a clean one-owner CARFAX report.

The two-tone Black and Sand Beige leather interior features optional heated and ventilated seats with Porsche crested headrests as well as a painted rear center console and illuminated door sill guards in stainless steel.  Other optional equipment includes a three-spoke multifunction steering wheel in leather, Bluetooth Phone Interface, Parking Assist System, XM Radio, a 6-disc CD changer, and a Sport Chrono stopwatch dial mounted atop the dashboard.  An aftermarket K40 radar detector has been integrated along with a LoJack vehicle recovery system.

All four wheels are driven through a 6-speed manual transmission paired with a twin-turbocharged 3.6-liter flat-six Mezger engine producing 480 HP and 460 lb.-ft of torque stock. In November of 2009, Jack Daniels Motorsports of New Jersey fitted an AWE Performance Power Package including a GIAC performance tune, intercooler kit, exhaust headers, and high-flow catalytic converters as well as a lightweight flywheel and Sachs stage 2 clutch. Service in 2017 is said to have included the replacement of ignition coils, spark plugs, and serpentine belt. Another major service is said to have been completed earlier in 2022 including a new battery.

This sale will include a clean title.

@Imthedecidah agree this car not suitable for garage queen. But now altered and too fast to enjoy driving. Any of 981 or 718 Gt 4 or Spyder much better “driving car” IMO

Ahhh… what we have here is a fantastic ‘driver’s car’, what we don’t have is a collectable car. Back in the 997 era the people who bought these cars bought them to drive them; they modified them to drive them even faster. I doubt they ever thought twice about the sniveling cadre of current noobs trying to justify an ‘adult purchase’ by classifying a high production 911 as part of a collection or an investment. GLWA - great combo!

On the DME report what the heck happened to cause it to over rev off the chat?? Has there ever been a compression test done on this engine?

  • MezgerTT (registered bidder) 1 year, 9 monthsago

@Captbillturbo About the mods, purist and collectors generally do not mods, so that likely impacts value. In addition, this car has an aftermarket lightweight flywheel which are known to cause vibration/rattle at idle when the clutch is not engaged. There is also a school of thought you should not install a lightweight flywheel in cars do not come with a lightweight flywheel as it may affect the engine balance. It appears to be a nice car that likely should be returned to stock and raised to stock ride height. I’m waiting to see pictures of the exhaust that has damage due to bottoming out because it is lowered. I hope that helps.

I am planning a 997 for my collection. I have never bought a Porsche that is altered - don’t understand why soup up a turbo cab as it is not a track car and stock is plenty fast. I have had 996 turbo with X50 and fast. Very helpful if mod experts could chime in here - do these particular mods affect the normal street driving of the car, dependability and maintenance of the car, and do they add or detract value?
May be best answered from another source -suggestions?
I really like this car and would like to bid on it.

@eurotechms Thank you for the videos. I noticed that you recently mentioned in comments during a prior sale that due to the lightweight flywheel this car has installed in place of the factory dual mass flywheel that the transmission rattled a bit at idle with the clutch disengaged. Can you post a video of the sound of the rattle as in the video you posted it appears that the person who started the car still had their right foot on the clutch during the video even though their left foot was out of the car. Thank you. I really appreciate it.

@MezgerTT If you look in Picture# 62 you'll see the rear mufflers have road scrapes on them and so does the drivers header, neither are mechanically damaged its purely cosmetic. I will get it back on a lift and get closer up pictures. We've had 2 different people come to look at it and paint meter this vehicle both gave completely different numbers due to the whole vehicle being XPEL'd I believe. But both are consistent throughout the entire vehicle. I will post photos regardless. Thank you!

  • MezgerTT (registered bidder) 1 year, 10 monthsago

@eurotechms Great car. Can you post paint meter readings. Also, can you post close up pictures of the driver’s side exhaust manifold and rear muffler as it appears both may have some damage but it’s obscured by the way it was photographed. Thank you.

I won't insult the seller by bidding some token amount here as I know this one is going to go for more than I would like to pay for a toy car in this bear market! Anyway, this is a beauty and I wish the best to the seller and the next owner.
