We are pleased to present this 2009 Porsche 997.1 Turbo Cabriolet finished in Guards Red over a black full leather interior with carbon fiber and red deviated stitching.  The first-generation 997 Turbo is sought after for its Mezger flat-six engine, and this specific example comes factory equipped with the Sport Chrono Package Turbo, a 6-speed manual transmission, the Carbon Package, Adaptive Sport Seats, a Sport Shifter, and a carbon fiber multi-function steering wheel. Reported to have been diligently maintained and kept up to date on all scheduled maintenance, this Turbo is now being offered by its seller out of Florida with approximately 59k miles showing on the odometer.

Reported to have been garage-kept and covered by its owner, the Guards Red finish is said to be in very good overall condition aside from some slight rock chips on the front lower bumper. The lower front lip is said to have been replaced by the current owner and the black cabriolet top is stated to be in excellent condition having been regularly cleaned and treated with a Porsche-approved product.  Detailed images are provided in the photo gallery along with paint meter readings and a clean CARFAX.  Features specific to the Turbo model include wide fenders with rear side air intakes, revised bumpers, and a speed-activated rear spoiler. This Cabriolet rides on a set of factory 19” Turbo wheels dressed in Pirelli P-Zero tires dated from 2014.

Inside, the driver is situated in a Black full leather interior with exclusive carbon fiber details and red deviated stitching.  Configured at an original sticker price of over $157k, the factory specification sheet lists the following options:

  • Sport Chrono Package Turbo
  • Carbon Steering Wheel Multi-Function
  • Footrest Aluminum
  • Seat Belts - Guards Red
  • Porsche Crest in Headrest
  • Sport Seat Backs in Leather
  • Rear Center Console - Carbon
  • Sport Shifter
  • Adaptive Sport Seats
  • Door Entry Guards Carbon Illuminated
  • Storage Compartment Lid W/Model Logo
  • Black Full Leather
  • Universal Audio Interface
  • Floor Mats in Interior Color
  • Carbon Package
  • XM Radio
  • PCM Voice Control
  • Heated Front Seats
  • Door Handle Stitching in Deviated Color
  • Door Stitching in Deviated Color
  • Dashboard Stitching in Deviated Color
  • Stitching F/R seats Deviated Color
  • All Exclusive Options Stitch Deviated Color

Marking the final iteration of the Mezger 911 Turbo, this 997.1 is powered by a twin-turbocharged 3.6 L flat-six engine rated at 480 HP. Coveted for its race-derived design, the Mezger design is widely regarded as one of the greatest water-cooled Porsche engines of all time. All four wheels are driven through a highly desirable 6-speed manual transmission allowing this Cabriolet to accelerate from 0-60 MPH in as little as 3.8 seconds. In 2017, this Turbo reportedly underwent a major service at Orbitz Racing in Florida that included an oil/filter change, new brakes, drive shaft boots, ignition coils, pressure hoses, and O-rings, as well as a safety inspection and the installation of a new battery.  The transmission fluid and filter are said to have been replaced within the last 4k miles along with a brake fluid flush, and this Turbo is said to be in excellent running order.  There is no record of the coolant pipes being pinned or welded.

This sale will include service records, a Porsche Certificate of Authenticity, and a clean title. Showcasing a powerful Mezger flat-six engine, a 6-speed manual gearbox, and exclusive factory options, this increasingly desirable 997.1 Turbo offers a substantial value.

  • pepespeed (seller) 3 years, 1 monthago

    @Fu-Schnickens yes, still feels strong.

  • Fu-Schnickens (registered bidder) 3 years, 1 monthago

@pepespeed Does the clutch still feel as "strong" as reported in 2018?

  • pepespeed (seller) 3 years, 1 monthago

@Blackpony I too have read many blogs over on Rennlist about the adhesive improvement made in 2008 on the coolant pipe fittings.

  • Blackpony 3 years, 1 monthago

@RCATX Coolant pipe adhesive was improved in mid 2008, 997.1 to 997.2 specifications. There have been no failures recorded for the newer adhesive. My 2009, 997,1 has not had a coolant pipe issue and I am not going to "pin" the system.
2009 PCM and adhesive upgrade plus the last year for the "Hans Mezger" engine design make the 997,1 most desirable for me. This engine developed 800 Hp in racing use. The 997.2 "rail engine" has no such racing history and is not as collectible, IMHO.

@pepespeed Thank you for the additional info. I recall watching this car the last time it was for sale (auction) publicly. It looks even better now than it did back then. Your purchase was well-timed and you've taken good care of the car since then, too. I'm sure the market will reward you!

  • pepespeed (seller) 3 years, 1 monthago

@Fu-Schnickens excellent question. Has always worked since I acquired the car. Never seen any hyd oil leaking from those two cylinders. Please see photo in gallery showing the wing in raised position.
    Thank you.

  • Fu-Schnickens (registered bidder) 3 years, 1 monthago

@pepespeed Has the hydraulic wing given you any trouble during your ownership?

  • pepespeed (seller) 3 years, 1 monthago

@Mercyhealth I agree with you. The red stitching did it for me when I first saw the interior of this car.

  • Mercyhealth (registered bidder) 3 years, 1 monthago

@pepespeed again in my mind 997 turbo gen 2a where the a stands for Awesome.

The stitching on your car is gorgeous!

  • pepespeed (seller) 3 years, 1 monthago

@RCATX I acquired the vehicle in January 2018 with 55K on the clock. Car now has 59K, so 4K miles during my care. Three years.
    Maintenance completed during my ownership:
    1. PPI in February 2018 at German Excellence (document in photo gallery). No issues with car. Clutch felt strong; CV boots rubber in great shape; rotors and pads very little wear; front spoiler scrapping (replaced); convertible top operation good; no fluid leaks anywhere; belts in good condition; radiators cleaned; suspension tight with no leaks.
    2. March 2018 at German Excellence. Replaced Trans. and differential fluid; new Air Filter; new Cabin Filter; new OEM front spoiler .
    3. October 2018. Mobil 1 0W40 Oil change.
    4. July 2019. Mobil 1 0W40 Oil Change.
    5. October 2019. ATE Type 200 Brake Flush.
    6. April 2020. Mobil 1 0W40 Oil Change.
    7. May 2020. Coolant Flush.

I am going to try and see if I can recover photos of radiators, back when I bought the vehicle. I have not taken any since, but look in the photo gallery and I believe you can see partial radiators on some photos. While the coolant pipes have no record of pinning or welding, I can say that in my three years never a spot of coolant on the garage floor (or any other fluid for that matter).
A couple of other comments on maintenance and mileage under my care: son in law is SAE Cert. mechanic at Cadillac dealership, so much help in performing routine maintenance (oil change, coolant flush, break flush).
Up until June 2020, 997.1 TT sat under cover in garage next to a covered Beck 356 Speedster replica. Due to business travel during the work week, meant a choice on weekends of which car to take to "stretch it's legs." Hence the limited mileage on Turbo.
I hope the preceding information is helpful in your decision making. Thank you for your interest.

  • Mercyhealth (registered bidder) 3 years, 1 monthago

@pepespeed precisely so the best engine or the 997 turbo and the best interior of the 997 turbo to me means gen2 or maybe better yet gen2a. Beautiful car nonetheless!

  • RCATX (registered bidder) 3 years, 1 monthago

@pepespeed can you comment on how long you've owned the car and how many miles you've put on it during ownership? also how much in maintenance (dollar wise) have you put into the car? i can see the pictures, but I'd prefer commentary with detail. looking at the documented history (i cannot determine exactly what is under your ownership), i'm curious on your level of tediousness. being down this road previously with other 911s and since the coolant pipes haven't been pinned, curious what else may need done with a potential purchase.

on that note, do you have close-ups of the coolant pipes that you could provide? can you also provide close-ups of the radiators and condensors so I best understand the current situation?

sorry for all the questions. just being diligent.

  • pepespeed (seller) 3 years, 1 monthago

@Mercyhealth I agree it is the best of both worlds, hence when buying I looked at the 2009 primarily. Because of the:
a: Mezger solid engine, 6 speed manual from 997.1.
b: interior and PCM from the 997.2 upgraded model.

  • Mercyhealth (registered bidder) 3 years, 1 monthago

@cab2door 2009 was a cross over year. This one has updated interior so I would say gen 2.

  • cab2door (registered bidder) 3 years, 1 monthago

@Mercyhealth Indeed a great car, but this is a gen 1 997 TT.

  • Mercyhealth (registered bidder) 3 years, 1 monthago

@Fu-Schnickens gen 2 997 turbo six speed is all anyone needs to know! And in red

@Mercyhealth that is a reasonable request.
I will work on providing these in the morning. Thank you for your suggestion.

  • Mercyhealth (registered bidder) 3 years, 1 monthago

@pepespeed great car the manual 997 turbo is the KING of 911s! All gens IMO. This one has a very clean undercarriage for 57k on the clock. I know it’s a pain in the rear but I would like to read all the maintenance documents. You have an absolute slam dunk here. Please seal the deal and place individual photos of the work done to finish this auction off.
