The Mazda MX-5 (NC) represents the third iteration of the Mazda MX-5, produced between 2005 and 2015. Upon its debut in 2005, it garnered recognition, including the Car of the Year Japan Award (or JCOTY) and a consistent presence on Car and Driver's 10Best list from 2006 to 2013. This 2007 example has been transformed into a dedicated track car to meet SCCA Spec MX-5 series qualifications, including a Roush Spec MX-5 long-block engine paired with a Crate 6-speed manual transmission built by the professionals at Mazda Speed. It also features a black and blue finish adorned with racing livery, a lightweight race-focused cabin with a full roll cage built by Winding Road Racing, and several additional track-oriented equipment. This NC is now being offered for auction by its seller out of Texas.
This track-focused MX-5 has been refinished in teal/black paint with a specified racing livery. Notable modifications as per qualifying specifications include an aftermarket hardtop featuring a Lexan windshield, headlight replacement panels, fog lamps converted to brake ducts, and front and rear tow straps. It rides on silver-finished 17” forged wheels secured by MSI studs and lug nuts, mounted with used Hankook DOT racing tires. Three sets of wheels, two sets of Toyo and Hankook DOT racing tires, and one set of wet tires are said to accompany the sale. Additional images are provided in the gallery.
The interior has been stripped and optimized for motorsport with a full roll cage expertly crafted by Winding Road Racing, a MOMO racing seat with a driver’s halo and Sabelt harness, and a detachable Sabelt steering wheel. Additionally, an AiM Solo2 DL with SmartyCam has been fitted along with a fire safety system and CoolShirt system.
The vehicle has undergone a professional engine and transmission replacement performed by MazdaSpeed, featuring a Roush Spec MX-5 long-block engine paired with a Crate 6-speed manual transmission. Renowned for its performance, the Mazda MZR engine is enhanced with Roush CNC cylinder heads and Mahle pistons, offering a tightly controlled powertrain. Specified at 2525 lb., the Spec MX-5 is well-suited for various club racing classes, notably SCCA SMX & STL and NASA ST5, as well as numerous endurance categories. Equipped with a race-tuned suspension, including Penske single-adjustable shocks, Eibach springs, and Toyo RR race tires, the Spec MX-5 delivers exceptional speed and performance on the track. The seller adds that new hubs, rotors, and brake pads have been installed.
This track car is being offered with a bill of sale.

The car is AS IS, the car has had the parts replaced as mentioned such as Hubs, Rotors and Brake lad, along with oil change and new spark plugs and coils. NO other work has been done on the car. There is NO leak down performed. The owner has invoices for service done. This is a Race Car there is NO side window glass in the car. You’ll have to take my word on the 1:20:00 on MSRC 1.7. The is capable of faster laps with fresh tires which come with the car.
@takeittowthelimit Just to clarify no recent inspections/service have been done on the car by a qualified shop/technician that could be referenced here with documentation? No leakdown numbers? The car comes with no maintenance documentation? No title either correct? Are glass windows still in the car? Do you have any video of the 1.20 lap on 1.7 ccw?
@sblack20 there is NO comments in the logbooks of any incidents . I know the NC MX-5 bumper pop off easily sir. Hence the screws in rear bumper cover.
@takeittothelimit the trunk lid alignment looks way off and the rear bumper is riveted on, any info on rear end incident?

@takeittwothelimit thanks for the reply, any documentation/receipts for any refreshing or repairs would be helpful if available.
@sblack20 the car has New Hubs, Rotors and Pads in prep for sale. The engine is a sealed MazdaSpeed built motor. There is no Hour meter on the car. It starts, drives and pulls well. I drove a 1:20:00 on 1.7ccw on old Hankook tires. I can check with owner on any additional maintenance done. I do know WWR had well prepped cars.
@Takeittwothelimit Thanks for answering those questions. I assume this has had the same drivetrain since it was built in 2019? There are no records of hours or service documentation that came with the car when purchased from winding road? Did winding road perform a refresh on anything when the owner purchased? Has any shop performed any recent service or inspected wear items on the car?
@sblack20 so, I’m representing the car for a client. He informed me he purchased from WWR for his daughter to race some SCCA events, I believe it was built in 2019. She did 4 races the other two entries were annuals for logbook.
I have NO results on the, possibly find them in Track Rabbit.
This car has 15” seat on a slider for different drivers. I’m 6’1” and I have seat two clicks forward.
So if your slim hips it will fit you well.
So this has a 2022 logbook with 6 races? Was it raced prior to that? When did winding road actually build the car? Is there any documentation on the build from winding road?
How is the fitment for a taller driver in these, I am 6'2"? Has this car been competitive when raced in spec mx-5?
Additional content has been added to the gallery for this listing.
@henryr the car raced in 2022 and only seen track days since Belts and Net are expired as of 2023. I can’t read the seat. I’m about add underside of car pics shortly.
Bid in the amount of $250
Hi. Both logbooks current for 2024? What are the expiration on the seat, harness, nets? Thx
@Takeittwothelimit Thanks for all the info.
@Davearm127 three set of wheels there is a new set of Toyo and Hankook and one set of Hoosier wets.
Any spares come with the car?
@Davearm127 I’m representing the car for one of my clients, the car doesn’t have an hour meter on it. I have the logbook. It shows to have been used for 6 scca events.
How many hours on engine and transmission. Are there any logbooks for the car?
Thank you for the quick response and Saturday sounds good for the undercarriage pics. I understand having too many toys and sometimes needing to sell some of them.
I will send you a private message re the 6 races.
@Bazari12 I’m representing this car for one of my clients. I driven the car personally and it runs and drives great.
The reason for the sell, owner has to many toys.
@Bazari12 I have NO idea how many miles where on the car prior to being built into the race car. It’s had 6 races in its logbook. The engine and gearbox was replaced when being built as race car with MazdaSpeed sealed engine and gearbox.
Yes, I can provide under car photos on Saturday. That’s the first chance I have to get the car on a lift. I’ve seen the underside and it look clean and straight.
Hello everyone, bid with confidence! This is a incredible nice Spec MX-5 race car built by Winding Road Racing.
Good Morning,
Why are you selling this race car?
Were you the owner who had the car built into a race car?
Any info on the car before it was a race car? How many miles were on the chassis before it was converted to a race car?
Would you be able to put the car on a lift and upload pics of the undercarriage and possibly a video as well?
