Available for auction is this 2011 Porsche 997.2 GT3 RS finished in Paint to Sample Guards Red over a black full leather and Alcantara interior with deviated red stitching. The 997.2 GT3 RS is one of the rarest modern Porsches and among the last to feature the coveted Mezger engine design. This 2011 example is confirmed as one of only five U.S. examples ordered in Guards Red, and the only sporting contrasting black accents from the DZL Customization Package. It also boasts the Front Axle Lifting System, Sound Package Plus, Sport Chrono Package Plus, and nearly $16k worth of exclusive options including Porsche crested headrests, carbon fiber trim, and clear taillights.  A true collector’s item with under 11k miles showing on the odometer, this one-of-a-kind GT3 RS is now being offered for auction out of Ohio accompanied by the original window sticker and a Porsche Certificate of Authenticity.

This RS was ordered in Paint to Sample Guards Red along with exclusive clear taillights and unique contrasting black accents from the DZL Customization Package.  The full exterior has been preserved under a layer of ceramic-infused S-Tech paint protection film, and the seller reports minor scuff marks on the lower front spoiler lip.  The factory black-painted 19” center-lock wheels come dressed in Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 tires dated from 2015. Additional images are provided in the gallery along with a clean CARFAX report.

The cabin is trimmed in black full leather and Alcantara upholstery with deviated red stitching throughout the dashboard, door panels, rear side panels, and lightweight bucket seats.  Options from Porsche’s Exclusive Department include illuminated door sill guards in carbon fiber, Porsche crested headrests, a rear center console in carbon fiber, and an Alcantara storage bin lid with an embossed Porsche logo.  The seller reports some cracks in the finish on the carbon fiber center console and describes the cabin to be in otherwise excellent condition.  A complete list of factory options is provided below:

This example has been upgraded with a full Fabspeed exhaust system including Sport catalytic converters and a center muffler bypass. The original exhaust components are said to accompany the sale. CARFAX shows maintenance to have been carried out by authorized Porsche dealers throughout the years and the seller reports a full annual service was recently completed including fluid and filter changes.  The seller adds the car has never been subjected to track use, a DME report is provided in the gallery.

This sale will include a set of two keys, owner's manuals, the original window sticker, factory exhaust system, Porsche Tequipment car cover, Porsche Certificate of Authenticity, and a clean title. An incredibly elusive opportunity for any Porsche collectors, this Paint to Sample Guards Red GT3 RS is not to be overlooked.

One more thing! Forgot to note that the seats have stitched-to-match bolster protectors on them so you will notice some wrinkles in the photos - that's not the seat surface but the protector. We added a couple of close-up photos to the gallery of the bolsters underneath the covers showing no appreciable wear.

@switchcars thank you for the information

  • switchcars (seller) 2 years, 3 monthsago

Note that this Fabspeed exhaust system retains the OEM side mufflers so you still have the valved "Sport" mode. We made a video demonstrating the difference in sound that should be added shortly. Direct link here:

@broughtagarage To our knowledge the tune is factory stock. As confirmed with a couple Porsche master techs, no tune is needed for an exhaust system.

  • switchcars (seller) 2 years, 3 monthsago

@GT2carfan No paintwork. Meter readings are all consistent and within factory spec.

The rear wheels have been refinished, but that's not paintwork - I've only seen somebody meter a set of wheels once in 16 years and I don't think they knew what they were doing or why they were doing it!

  • GlennG 2 years, 3 monthsago

@Dsgray16 All good. I'm just pointing out the differences to those looking at two red RS and wondering what's the difference.

  • Dsgray16 (registered bidder) 2 years, 3 monthsago

I think that car should have sold there personally.. didn't mean to equate the two cars.. this one is definitely worth more.. that said, IMO its a little silly to say they are completely different.. how man Guards Red 2011 GT3 RS's are there in the US? Im guessing less than 6? Hope this one gets the moon..

  • switchcars (seller) 2 years, 3 monthsago

@Dsgray16 Yes, that one was interesting to watch. While it was a Guards Red example, the similarities ended there. It was not a DZL car and it was heavily modified with lots of prior track use. It was done absolutely right, with the right parts, by the right shops, but the driver-level and collector-grade RS typically exist in different value spheres.

  • GlennG 2 years, 3 monthsago

@Dsgray16 Although the BaT car that didn't sell may appear similar, it is not.
    Key differences:
-This car has half the mileage.
-This car has a better spec.
-This car has a much higher MSRP
-This car is stock (the exhaust center section is irrelevant)
All of the points above are exactly what discerning buyers/collectors are willing to shell out top $ for. If you want a cool driver, buy the BaT car for cheaper. If you want a prime example of one of the best cars Porsche ever made, you buy this one.

  • broughtagarage (registered bidder) 2 years, 3 monthsago

Was a tune ever applied to support the full exhaust system?

  • Dsgray16 (registered bidder) 2 years, 3 monthsago

20k mile car in very similar spec just went no-sale on BaT at $261k... Makes this auction all the more interesting to watch!

Need these door pulls in my GT3 of similar overall spec.. what a great touch. GLWA

  • switchcars (seller) 2 years, 3 monthsago

Thank you all for viewing the auction - we're excited to see the participation here.

Please note in the photos that the engine and gearbox number both match what is listed on the Certificate of Authenticity confirming that it is an original "matching numbers" drivetrain. That is important and will be very important down the road as people start asking those questions, because more than a few of the engines and gearboxes on the 3.8L RS were replaced, so having an original one especially on a rare PTS spec like this one is key.

@johnkhobson Paint-to-sample varies based on the model. Guards Red was available on the 997/Turbo/GT2 but not on the RS. They only offered Aqua Blue, Carrara White, and Grey-Black on the 997.2 RS as a standard color.
That is not a first for Porsche, as Carrara White was an upcharge color on the 997.1 RS even though it was a standard/no-cost color on the base models. Also, Orange was an available color on the 9971. RS, but it was a PTS color on later models (at least until it was discontinued in 2011 and replaced with Pastel Orange).
Almost all modern PTS colors were standard colors at some point in time on different or older model Porsches.

  • johnkhobson 2 years, 3 monthsago

Hmm... Guards Red is a standard (no charge) color. What gives here?

  • RumbleAuto (registered bidder) 2 years, 3 monthsago

Absolutely stunning in every single way!

  • TubeGuy (registered bidder) 2 years, 3 monthsago

So beautiful. I'm not a Guards Red Porsche guy normally but really this car is amazing. Wow. I had a carbon fiber center console and they seem to crack often. Dealer broke mine as a matter of fact, and replaced it and as I recall it was $4500 back then. All you have to do is lean across it. Or heat can do it too.

But who cares. This car is worthy of being printed on a poster. Absolutely epic.
