The MP4-12C was released in 2011 as the first McLaren production car fully developed by the company, and their first road car since the legendary McLaren F1. Built over a carbon composite chassis, the MP4-12C is powered by a 3.8L twin-turbocharged V8 producing 592 HP mated to a Graziano seven-speed Seamless-Shift dual-clutch gearbox and is also the first drivetrain fully designed by McLaren. This 2012 example is finished in black over a black leather/Alcantara interior with red contrast stitching and was optioned with carbon fiber exterior options such as a carbon fiber front splitter, rear diffuser, and side mirrors, an MSO sport exhaust, lightweight Stealth-finished forged wheels, the Stealth Package, carbon fiber interior trim, parking sensors, and more. Having recently received a full service in December of 2021, this MP4-12C is now being offered at auction by its seller in Virginia showing approximately 39k miles on the odometer.

The carbon fiber composite bodywork is finished in black, built around a Carbon MonoCell safety tub. Equipment includes an optional carbon fiber front splitter, rear diffuser, and mirror casings, painted red brake calipers with white McLaren logos, and a dual-exit exhaust and airbrake mechanism finished in Satin Black as part of the Stealth Pack. The seller reports the front bumper, passenger door, and rear bumper have been refinished due to an accident, though the title remains clean. The 19”/20" lightweight forged wheels are finished in Stealth and mounted with Pirelli P-Zero tires from 2019.

The interior is trimmed in black leather and Alcantara, featuring power-adjustable and heated seats with McLaren logos on the headrests. Alcantara upholstery extends to the dashboard and center console, accented with red contrast stitching and carbon fiber trim on the center console, steering wheel spokes, door sills, and door panels. Amenities include dual-zone automatic climate control, a 7” portrait format touchscreen infotainment display, a Meridian sound system, front and rear parking sensors, and cruise control. A K40 radar detector was fitted by a previous owner.

The MP4-12C is equipped with a 3.8L twin-turbocharged M838T V8 that produces up to 592 HP and 443 lb.-ft of torque, sent to the rear wheels through a 7-speed Seamless Shift dual-clutch transmission by Graziano. Acceleration from 0-60 MPH occurs in around 3 seconds with a claimed top speed of 207 MPH. Performance features include the ProActive Chassis Control suspension with adaptive dampening and hydraulic roll control, launch control, an Active Dynamics Panel with three settings, Normal, Sport, and Track, a factory MSO sport exhaust,  an active airbrake, and an F1-inspired Brake Steer system, which mimics the action of a torque vectoring differential. The seller reports the vehicle has been recently serviced, a new battery has been installed and notes that the TPMS warning light is present.

This sale will include a clean title and some service documentation.

@Bighead thanks for input, Yes those people actually work for me, they list a lot of cars for me I’ve had the car for a good while now
Overall great car very reliable I have not had any issues, thanks again for the input, sorry I’m not the best at this, that’s why I have friends list my Cars LOL

  • Bighead (registered bidder) 1 year, 8 monthsago

My $0.02, as we get down to the end of the auction. This *could* be a good deal for someone looking for an extremely fast supercar at a fair price to put 20k miles/year on without recrimination. It's a "later" MY2012 example, which means many of the early teething problems would have been remedied before sale. I wouldn't worry too much about the "big" repair bills at the start of ownership; McLaren, when launching the 12C as its first road car since the F1, was very intent on having everything go right. So if there was, say, a tiny oil leak from a weep hole in the transmission case, McLaren replaced the entire transmission under warranty, so Graziano could study the issue. The same with everything else.

This is a pretty well loaded example with most of the tasty 2012 options, including the sport exhaust. Note though - one important missing item is the engine bay panels; the covers on either side of the engine that cover much of the sides of the engine (see pic 95). Also, it has aftermarket engine covers (the two plastic pieces in that same pic that look like camouflage pattern). This example came with CARBON FIBER engine covers (both pieces), although it has the stock black plastic engine covers (see pic 107 in the BaT listing). Maybe the prior owner sold off the CF pieces for some cash, and replaced with aftermarket ones? That wouldn't bother me (with an appropriate discount), but I'd feel compelled to find a pair of replacement engine bay cover panels.

After this example was sold in that BaT auction for $97,500 in 2017 with 18,743 miles, a subsequent owner listed it on eBay, under "jasm_4990", located in Rocklin, CA and ruzted71 and "Jonathan G – Private Seller" in Midlothian, VA on Autotrader. Mileage on eBay was first 38,500 and then 39,000, and asking price started at $105k and then $106,999. (There was also a cell phone # for "Pat" in the listing.)

One of the prior owners had it wrapped in pearl white vinyl, and appears to have had the brake calipers powder coated red - it is black in the BaT listing.

None of this should disqualify the car; if it checks out, it could make a wonderful driver at the right price. I'm a very happy owner of a later 12C Spider, and it's blazingly fast (blows away a 458 Italia and head-to-head with a 488) and is very reliable.

    HTH!

    --Dennis

car is in CA or VA?

  • prmnorton1 (seller) 1 year, 8 monthsago

    @Jeremy yes

  • prmnorton1 (seller) 1 year, 8 monthsago

    @Magicalmachine yes California title

  • Jeremy (registered bidder) 1 year, 8 monthsago

@prmnorton1 are you a licensed dealer?

  • Magicalmachine (registered bidder) 1 year, 8 monthsago

@seller, is it California title or?

  • prmnorton1 (seller) 1 year, 8 monthsago

@sharkhunter84 Yes the titles are still in the previous owners personal or business names and the title will be reassigned to the next buyer

  • sharkhunter84 (registered bidder) 1 year, 8 monthsago

Whos name is the title in at the moment? Seeing that you have listed this as a dealer, is it (a) in your name (b) in your dealerships name or (c) still in the PO's name? Ive personally never bought a car out of Virginia so wondering how reassignment will work thanks

  • prmnorton1 (seller) 1 year, 8 monthsago

@Dscoff ok, there is currently no suspension damage or suspension issues, everything must have been repaired correctly

  • Dscoff (registered bidder) 1 year, 8 monthsago

@prmnorton1 Fair and plausible response. Based on the BaT posting, there is suspension damage from the accident...whether you or CarFax were aware or not is now irrelevant because there is an online record of it.

  • prmnorton1 (seller) 1 year, 8 monthsago

@Dscoff sorry, I bought the car from the owner in California it looks like they did all the repairs I did have the car thoroughly inspected there’s no sign of any accidents, no issues, I did not even know there was any accidents until somebody sent me the old listing on bat, Yeah I did not know there was any accidents I looked at the Carfax it was clean there was no sign of any accident and then when I listed it on here or somebody sent me the old listing on Bat and that’s the first I knew of any accidents again sorry not trying to be misleading or confusing but I was not aware there was any accidents, Currently there are no issues car does run and drive good no suspension issues I don’t think there was any previous suspension damage either but I’m not sure

  • Dscoff (registered bidder) 1 year, 8 monthsago

@prmnorton1 Maybe just be a little more clear. You seem to be saying it but the wording is confusing.

Correct me if I am wrong, but this is your point:

    - Yes, the car was in an accident with both cosmetic and suspension damage (as noted in the previous BaT listing)

    - You are saying that at some point after that auction someone repaired things and at least looking at the car you couldn't tell it was in an accident?

I think that is fair to state, but the fact of the matter is the car did previously have major damage and anyone buying is doing so based on your word and no documentation of the repairs

  • prmnorton1 (seller) 1 year, 8 monthsago

@Jeremy I’ll be back tonight and check my file

  • Jeremy (registered bidder) 1 year, 8 monthsago

@prmnorton1 you previously mentioned that you were going to try and locate the service records but I do not see them posted

  • prmnorton1 (seller) 1 year, 8 monthsago

@Dscoff car was repaired, no signs of any accidents, runs and drives and shifts good

  • prmnorton1 (seller) 1 year, 8 monthsago

@gt3rsfan all ads should be down except this one, let me know if they aren’t thanks

  • prmnorton1 (seller) 1 year, 8 monthsago

@Jeremy no docs, no sign of any accidents, car runs and drives good

  • Dscoff (registered bidder) 1 year, 8 monthsago

@gt3rsfan I was very interested in a "high" mile 12C that I could take to 100k miles without guilt, but the history on this thing is scary. Last it was sold it was damaged, unrepaired, still required some suspension components, and per the previous BaT seller wasn't even driving straight when the steering wheel was on center

  • Jeremy (registered bidder) 1 year, 8 monthsago

@seller Any documentation of the repairs? Copies of service history?

  • gt3rsfan (registered bidder) 1 year, 8 monthsago

@Dscoff And apparently for sale on Ebay and Facebook simultaneously. Proceed with caution.

@Bighead I sent the lightbulb icon, might not have translated. I meant brilliant.

  • prmnorton1 (seller) 1 year, 8 monthsago

@maladent when you search vin, it shows it was sold on bat awhile ago and it shows previous damage

  • maladent 1 year, 8 monthsago

    @Bighead ?

  • prmnorton1 (seller) 1 year, 8 monthsago

@marshgator Yeah this is one of my first McLarens I’ve thoroughly enjoyed it, it’s been very reliable I have not had any issues, from what I’ve learned it’s better to buy these cars with some miles on them that way all the early issues that will arise have been taken care of, the really low mile ones I’ve read are ones you’re gonna have to take care of all the issues but once they have some miles on them you should be good to go my best friend has one with like 120,000 miles on it and he hasn’t had any issues he’s had it since about 50,000 miles, overall they are very fun and very reliable as long as all the early issues have been taken care of which they have on this one, as you noted, thanks for input!

  • marshgator 1 year, 8 monthsago

Wonderdan: The $35k service over the time of ownership is in my experience a good indication that it was serviced often by the owners and not something added to stock. I owned an early 2012 12C and they were prone to corrective measures because they were the 1st generation with a few gremlins yet to be worked out. My first service was at a cost of $11K. This included replacing AC controls on the driver's side door, rear backup lights that accumulated water and shorted, a small oil leak from the motor and replacing a computer logic board that was upgraded later. I eventually bought the added warranty each year to enjoy the car and not worry about service costs. A fun car to own with a warranty.

  • Bighead (registered bidder) 1 year, 8 monthsago

If you google the VIN, you'll see that this car was previously sold on BaT, and there are pics and discussion of the damage there. Hope this helps.

  • prmnorton1 (seller) 1 year, 8 monthsago

@jbeinhor no I’m pretty sure the car is just all stock, No there’s no fogging on the headlights, yes the battery was replaced by McLaren with the same battery that was in the lithium ion battery

  • jbeinhor (registered bidder) 1 year, 8 monthsago

    Hi — a few questions:

    1. Does this car have the updated software with the additional horsepower? There should be a certificate.

    2. Is there any fogging in the headlights?

    3. Did they replace the battery with another factory lithium ion battery?

  • prmnorton1 (seller) 1 year, 8 monthsago

@Wonderdan Well overtime the previous owner had a warranty/service contract so I’m sure he just took it in for every little thing and I think I added up to about 35,000, yeah let me see if I can locate the records and post them it was Maintenance things like a water pump, ignition coil, ect over life of car

  • prmnorton1 (seller) 1 year, 8 monthsago

@Wonderdan Hi I’m just trying to be transparent there’s no accidents on the Carfax, I did not get any accident, I was not aware of any accidents, but one of my associates told me that it was damaged in 2018

  • Wonderdan (registered bidder) 1 year, 8 monthsago

Do you mind posting the service records, curious why $35k has been put into the car is it’s still stock.

  • Wonderdan (registered bidder) 1 year, 8 monthsago

    1) yes the car has been in an accident, or at least you had been informed it was

    2) it wasn’t you

    3) they didn’t report it

    4) it doesn’t matter because you can’t tell

    Seems legit

  • justinbsc 1 year, 8 monthsago

Bid in the amount of $50,000

  • prmnorton1 (seller) 1 year, 8 monthsago

@jbeinhor the CarFax is clean and I haven’t had any accidents, there is no sign of any accidents, I was informed the car was damage a long time ago by first or second owner in 2018

  • jbeinhor (registered bidder) 1 year, 8 monthsago

So has this been in an accident?

  • pars22 (registered bidder) 1 year, 8 monthsago

@BATLP640 "The seller reports the front bumper, passenger door, and rear bumper have been refinished due to an accident,"

  • prmnorton1 (seller) 1 year, 8 monthsago

@prmnorton1 cars also dirty in pics so may be that also and again my apologies for that, the camera guys didn’t think to maybe clean it before pics lol ?

  • prmnorton1 (seller) 1 year, 8 monthsago

    @BATLP640 hi no accidents
    CarFax is clean as well
I did a double clear coat to protect paint so may be
    be lighting reflecting on paint

  • BATLP640 (registered bidder) 1 year, 8 monthsago

Hi Looking closely at the one picture that is a close up of the left rear qaurter panel by Gas door. It looks like there is some fisheye in the paint, has the car been in an accident or repainted at all? thanks

  • prmnorton1 (seller) 1 year, 8 monthsago

@broadwayjoe Yeah we have a good amount of service records probably about 35 grand has been put into the car

  • broadwayjoe (registered bidder) 1 year, 8 monthsago

Do you have any service records?

  • Dkouseller 1 year, 8 monthsago

Bid in the amount of $44,000

  • prmnorton1 (seller) 1 year, 8 monthsago

Hi yes the car is a little bit dirty I do apologize, I was not there when they did photo shoot, the photographer did not clean the car like I asked so I apologize, but the paint is an excellent condition like new, it’s like new inside and out, cars in excellent condition, runs and drives great, really a blast to drive, if anyone has questions about the car please let me know, thank you for viewing!

  • Tmort (registered bidder) 1 year, 8 monthsago

I’d be embarrassed to show a car in this state, I mean I get it black is a bitch and maybe it’s just dust from a short drive but it looks bad and what appears to be water spots in some images makes me wonder about the true state of the paint.

  • DATGTS (registered bidder) 1 year, 8 monthsago

    Car is filthy!

  • Dom33 (registered bidder) 1 year, 8 monthsago
